Dr Carne is amazing! Our sweet golden was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer last summer. I wanted to plan out end-of-life care so that when the time came I’d have all my ducks in a row. Dr. Carne was so incredibly helpful, I called numerous places and she was the first to respond with so much compassion. She and I made a plan and stayed in touch while we worked with Tufts Oncology team. When it was time to make an incredibly tough decision, Dr Carne was very accommodating. As soon as she arrived, she brought a sense of calmness to our home. She offered as much time and space as we needed and very gently explained the process. Each detail was so sweetly thought out, from the cheezwiz to the follow up note and paw print. We would recommend anyone to not only use her as a means of end of life care but as a primary should you have the need for at home care. So thorough, so thoughtful - love her.

Welcome to Sharon Home Veterinary Care
For pet owners in Sharon, Massachusetts, and surrounding areas, Sharon Home Veterinary Care offers a distinct and highly personalized approach to veterinary medicine. Moving beyond the traditional clinic setting, this service brings professional and compassionate veterinary care directly to your doorstep, providing a stress-free experience for both pets and their human companions. This in-home model is particularly beneficial for pets who experience anxiety during clinic visits, or for owners who find it challenging to transport their animals.
The practice is led by Dr. Dana Carne, a highly regarded veterinarian with a passion for animal well-being and a commitment to providing exceptional care in a comfortable environment. Dr. Carne's extensive background includes graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and completing an intensive year-long internship at NYC Veterinary Specialists (BluePearl Veterinary Partners). Her internship provided her with broad exposure to various specialties, including Emergency, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Oncology, and Behavior. She has also worked in several busy small animal veterinary clinics in the South Shore area and Rhode Island, gaining invaluable experience. Dr. Carne has a particular interest in feline medicine and animal behavior, and she is a Fear Free certified practitioner, emphasizing methods that reduce stress and anxiety for pets during examinations and procedures. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Information Network, demonstrating her dedication to professional development and staying current with veterinary best practices. Her personal life as a resident of Sharon, with two daughters and two cats, further underscores her understanding of the bond between pets and their families.
One of the most significant aspects of Sharon Home Veterinary Care is its environment: your home. This eliminates the anxiety and stress often associated with car rides, waiting rooms, and unfamiliar clinic smells and sounds. For many pets, especially cats and those with behavioral issues or chronic conditions, receiving care in their familiar surroundings can make a world of difference. The ability to conduct examinations and treatments in a calm, controlled setting allows for a more accurate assessment of a pet's health and a more positive experience overall. Dr. Carne aims to bring a sense of calmness to the home, ensuring that even difficult decisions, such as end-of-life care, are handled with the utmost sensitivity and respect for the pet and family.
Sharon Home Veterinary Care offers a comprehensive range of services for dogs and cats, focusing on their overall health and well-being throughout their lives. The services are designed to be convenient and tailored to the individual needs of each pet. These include:
Wellness Examinations: Routine check-ups are crucial for preventive care, allowing for early detection of potential health issues.
Vaccinations: Ensuring pets are protected against common diseases with necessary immunizations.
New Kitten/Puppy Visits: Guidance and initial care for new furry family members, including vaccinations, deworming, and discussions about nutrition and behavior.
Lab Screening Tests: On-site collection of samples for various diagnostic tests to monitor health and diagnose conditions.
Sick or Injured Pets: Diagnosis and treatment for a variety of acute illnesses and minor injuries, providing prompt care in a familiar setting.
Behavior Issues: Addressing and managing common behavioral concerns in pets, offering advice and strategies to improve their quality of life and the human-animal bond.

For more complex medical needs that require advanced diagnostics, hospitalization, surgery, or dental procedures, Dr. Carne works in collaboration with surrounding clinics and specialty centers to ensure seamless and comprehensive care. This collaborative approach ensures that pets receive the full spectrum of veterinary services, even if they extend beyond the scope of a mobile practice.
The distinctive feature of Sharon Home Veterinary Care lies in its mobile service model, which prioritizes convenience and minimizes stress for pets. The personalized attention provided by Dr. Carne is a significant advantage, as she dedicates ample time to each appointment, allowing for thorough examinations and unhurried discussions with pet owners. This contrasts sharply with the often rushed appointments in busy clinic settings. Dr. Carne's approach emphasizes a team effort with pet owners, working together to address the health and well-being of their animals. She is known for her compassionate demeanor and meticulous attention to detail, from explaining processes gently to providing thoughtful follow-up. For example, during end-of-life care, clients have noted thoughtful gestures like offering Cheez Whiz (a comfort food for many dogs) and providing paw prints and follow-up notes, demonstrating a profound level of empathy and care.
The practice is specifically tailored for dogs and cats. For other species, Dr. Carne recommends contacting Holmes Family Veterinary Clinic in Walpole or Angell Animal Medical Center in Jamaica Plain for emergency care for exotic pets. For wildlife questions, New England Wildlife Center is suggested.
