Welcome to Sewickley Veterinary Hospital

Sewickley Veterinary Hospital, located at 1104 Ohio River Blvd, Sewickley, PA 15143, USA, positions itself as a full-service "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for small animals in Sewickley and the surrounding communities, including Baden, Ambridge, Edgeworth, Glenfield, Emsworth, Ben Avon, and Bellevue. The hospital emphasizes its commitment to exceptional and compassionate patient care, aiming to strengthen and protect the human-animal bond.

The environment at Sewickley Veterinary Hospital is designed to be a professional and caring space for pets and their owners. The facility is described as clean and organized, contributing to an overall sense of comfort for visitors. The hospital actively promotes itself as a "Fear Free Community," indicating an intentional effort to reduce stress and anxiety in pets during their visits. This approach typically involves specific techniques, calming pheromones, and a quiet atmosphere to make the veterinary experience more positive. Positive customer reviews highlight that the staff, including veterinary technicians and doctors like Dr. Jen, are "incredibly friendly" and make both pets and owners feel "at ease right from the start." They are commended for handling pets with "care and compassion." However, it is important to note that some reviews present a contrasting experience regarding client service and communication, particularly concerning the handling of appointments and policies related to large breed dogs. While the stated goal is to provide a stress-free environment, inconsistencies have been reported regarding the initial booking process and communication from newer staff members.

Sewickley Veterinary Hospital offers a broad spectrum of services to address various aspects of small animal health. These services include:

  • Comprehensive Medical Care: This encompasses routine wellness examinations, preventative medicine programs (such as vaccinations, parasite control, and nutritional counseling), and the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of illnesses and conditions. They are equipped to manage chronic diseases and provide internal medicine services.
  • Surgical Services: The hospital features an in-hospital surgery suite for various surgical procedures, including routine spaying and neutering, as well as soft tissue surgeries. Advanced monitoring during surgery is also a standard practice.
  • Dental Care: Providing comprehensive dental services, including cleanings, extractions, and dental radiography, to maintain oral health, which is crucial for overall pet well-being.
  • Diagnostic Procedures: The hospital provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic tools through in-house testing, such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal examinations. They also utilize external laboratories for more specialized diagnostic procedures when necessary. The facility includes in-house X-ray capabilities for imaging.
  • Pharmacy Services: A well-stocked in-house pharmacy ensures immediate access to necessary medications for patient treatment.
  • Hospitalization Area: A closely supervised hospitalization area is available for pets requiring observation and intensive care.
  • Client Education: The hospital emphasizes educating clients and communicating openly regarding their pets' care, providing a library of pet medical information from the Veterinary Information Network (VIN). This commitment aims to ensure pet owners are well-informed partners in their animal's health journey.

A significant feature of Sewickley Veterinary Hospital is its certification as a "Fear Free Community." This demonstrates a commitment to reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in pets during veterinary visits, which is a modern approach to animal care. They also boast a commitment to practicing and promoting the "highest standard of veterinary care and medicine." The hospital's emphasis on thorough explanations by the veterinary team, such as Dr. Jen, regarding procedures like vaccinations, and their patience in answering questions, is a positive aspect highlighted by some clients. The hospital also accepts pet insurance for unexpected accidents and illnesses and may offer financing solutions like CareCredit and Scratchpay, which are important features for managing healthcare costs. However, a notable point of contention, as per recent reviews, involves issues with scheduling and inconsistent information regarding the acceptance of large breed dogs. While the hospital aims to accommodate all small animals, there have been instances where large breeds were initially accepted for appointments and then later denied due to their size, creating confusion and frustration for owners. This inconsistency, particularly concerning new staff knowledge and communication, is a significant point of feedback that contrasts with the hospital's stated "Fear Free" and client-centric approach.

Promotional information for Sewickley Veterinary Hospital is largely centered on its commitment to high-quality, compassionate care and client education. Their "Fear Free" certification is a key promotional asset, appealing to pet owners who prioritize their animal's emotional well-being during vet visits. The testimonials from satisfied clients, who praise the friendly staff, detailed explanations, and gentle handling of their pets, serve as powerful word-of-mouth marketing. The hospital's website and other online presences likely highlight their comprehensive services, their location as a convenient choice for surrounding communities, and their philosophy of strengthening the human-animal bond. However, it is crucial for prospective clients to be aware of the recent negative feedback regarding inconsistencies in their policies and communication, particularly concerning large breed dog appointments. While the hospital aims for open communication, the reported instances of last-minute cancellations due to breed size, despite prior assurances, indicate areas where their operational consistency and client experience might not always align with their stated promotional values. Therefore, while their core mission and medical capabilities are strong, potential clients, especially those with large breeds, may wish to confirm their specific needs directly with the hospital to ensure their expectations can be met.

I took my dog, Ozzy, to the Sewickley Veterinary Hospital for his vaccination shots, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! The staff was incredibly friendly and made my pup, and I feel at ease right from the start. The veterinary team, led by Dr. Jen, was well-informed and took the time to explain the vaccination process in detail, answering all my questions patiently. They emphasized the importance of vaccinations for my dog's health, which gave me confidence that he was in good hands. During the visit, Ms. Jordan and Dr. Jen handled my dog with care and compassion. He didn't seem stressed, and the shots were over before he realized it! The clinic was clean and organized, which added to my overall comfort. Plus, I received a helpful vaccination record and some great tips for keeping my dog healthy. I highly recommend the Sewickley Veterinary Hospital to anyone looking for reliable care for their furry friends. It's reassuring that my dog, Ozzy, is protected and well cared for!

Highly recommend this practice! Billie Jean and Dr Smith are so kind and knowledgeable and took care of my fur baby! We had some unexpected concerning X-rays and Dr Smith was transparent on the treatment plan and meds. The staff was also transparent about costs when making the estimate. Bernie is doing well and we’ll be back next week for X-ray follow up!

We felt as though we were listened to by both the doctor and the tech. The friendly front desk staff welcomed us. We thought our concerns with our pet were addressed, considered, and looked into further. We were asked detailed questions and thought our pet's records were looked at thoroughly. Our questions were also answered thoroughly. We had a pleasant experience. Our pet also felt secure and safe and we think it was a good experience for her as well. We liked how the doctor spent time with us and did not make us feel rushed.

We recently decided to leave our old veterinary practice and switched over to Sewickley Veterinary Hospital. We are so happy with our decision! Dr. Boyle was amazing, and the two vet techs were as well. Any concern or question I had was addressed immediately and Belle was given a very thorough examination. The standard of care that was given was excellent and we left very impressed. It was very obvious that everyone who works here is a true animal lover, and Belle was given so much attention.:) Very much looking forward to our other rescue cat, Storm, coming in for his first checkup! -Autumn Townsend
