Angel just moved to her new Vermont home from New Jersey - an anxious time for canine and human. She has always been nervous in her vet's offices, probably a result of being abandoned in southern Virginia, but Dr. Bachmann and the tech support staff were so gentle and compassionate with her. I am so pleased to have found RVCSC.

Renowned for its commitment to providing high-quality care with a personal touch, this full-service clinic caters specifically to the needs of dogs and cats, aiming to support pets in leading longer, healthier lives alongside their families. The clinic's long history has fostered a deep bond with the community, and they actively partner with local organizations like the Rutland County Humane Society, demonstrating their broader commitment to animal welfare.

The environment at Rutland Veterinary Clinic & Surgical Center is meticulously designed to be both professional and profoundly compassionate. A significant feature is their accreditation as an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) hospital, a voluntary standard that ensures a high level of excellence across various aspects of veterinary practice, including facility cleanliness, equipment, patient care, and staff training. Furthermore, the clinic is a "Cat-Friendly Practice," meaning they have implemented specific measures to reduce stress for feline patients, such as separate cat-only exam rooms, pheromone sprays for calming, and low-stress handling techniques. The majority of their staff are also "Fear Free Certified Professionals," trained to recognize and alleviate signs of stress and anxiety in both dogs and cats during their visits. This dedication to creating a low-stress, comfortable, and welcoming environment is evident in client testimonials, where the staff's gentleness and compassion are consistently praised, even for anxious pets like Angel, a newly relocated dog.

Rutland Veterinary Clinic & Surgical Center offers a wide spectrum of veterinary services, addressing the complete healthcare needs of dogs and cats throughout their lives. Their comprehensive offerings include:

  • Wellness and Preventative Care: This includes thorough annual check-ups, tailored vaccination programs, parasite control, and personalized nutritional guidance. The emphasis is on proactive health management to detect and prevent potential problems early, fostering long-term health.

  • Surgical Services: The clinic provides a variety of surgical procedures, ranging from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. They prioritize patient safety with careful pre-procedure evaluations and personalized anesthesia and recovery plans.

  • Diagnostic Services: Equipped with modern diagnostic tools, the hospital offers a full range of in-house laboratory testing and imaging services (likely including X-rays and potentially ultrasound) to facilitate accurate and timely diagnoses when pets are unwell.

  • Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are available to maintain oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease, which is crucial for overall pet health. This would include dental cleanings and extractions.

  • Emergency and Urgent Care: While operating within set hours, they provide advanced preventative, emergency, and surgical care. For after-hours emergencies, they guide clients to services like Vet Triage, ensuring pets receive necessary attention around the clock.

  • End-of-Life Care: The clinic offers compassionate hospice and euthanasia services, providing support and guidance to pet owners facing difficult decisions. Reviews highlight the staff's empathy and understanding during these sensitive times, helping owners feel as well as possible about their choices.

  • Pharmacy and Online Store: They maintain a stocked in-house pharmacy for immediate medication needs and also partner with online providers like Vetsource for convenient home delivery of quality products and prescription refills. They also utilize Purina Vet Direct for food orders and offer an AutoShip program for recurring deliveries.

  • Specialty Interests: The team includes veterinarians with specific interests, such as Dr. Michaela Wozniakewicz in internal medicine, neurology, and surgery, and Dr. Rob Macpherson, indicating a breadth of expertise within the practice.

Several key features underscore the quality and commitment of Rutland Veterinary Clinic & Surgical Center. Their AAHA accreditation since 1970 signifies a continuous dedication to meeting the highest standards in veterinary medicine. This voluntary accreditation covers numerous aspects of hospital operations, ensuring excellent care. Furthermore, their status as a Cat-Friendly Practice and having a majority of staff who are Fear Free Certified Professionals are exceptional features that directly address common anxieties associated with vet visits, making the experience more comfortable and less stressful for pets and their owners. This focus on low-stress handling and a calm environment is a significant draw, particularly for pets with past negative experiences or inherently nervous dispositions.

The caliber of their veterinary team is another strong feature. Reviews specifically mention Dr. Bachmann and Dr. McPherson (likely Dr. Rob Macpherson), highlighting their gentle, compassionate, and helpful approach. The support staff, including Brittany, Candy, and Mandi, are also commended for their consoling and helpful demeanor, reinforcing the idea that the entire team is dedicated to providing supportive care. The clinic's reputation is built on "honesty and compassion" and a belief that pets deserve the "highest quality veterinary care," which is consistently reflected in client feedback.

I had the unfortunate need of Veteranarian services while recently traveling to visit family. Before we left NC our fur baby Marina had been diagnosed with cancer! She wasn't feeling great but ok. As we traveled from NC to VT she quickly showed signs of digression and became more ill as each day passed. Sadly, on day six of our trip I had to make that difficult decision. So, I called this veterany hospital for a consultation. The staff was very helpful and consoling. Dr McPherson, Brittany, Candy and Mandi helped me make the best choice and made me feel as well as possible about my choice. Thanks to everyone!
