Didn't give my cat Jax the care he deserved. He suffered because of it for months. I put my trust in them. They gave vague answers ignored my concerns about his pain. Broken ankle the didn't monitor him or suggest more x rays to see how it was healing. They didnt really care. I spent alot of money there to care for my animals.

Welcome to Rough River Veterinary Clinic

Rough River Veterinary Clinic, located at 1445 US-231, Hartford, KY 42347, USA, functions as a local "Pet Hospital" serving the veterinary needs of the Hartford community. The clinic provides veterinary care for animals, and you can reach them at (270) 298-7230 or +1 270-298-7230 for inquiries and appointments.

The clinic's approach to veterinary care, as gleaned from public reviews, presents a mixed picture. While some clients have attested to the efficacy of their medical interventions, stating that their pets "would not be alive today without their knowledge and experience," other feedback indicates significant concerns regarding patient care monitoring, client communication, and overall customer service. These varied experiences highlight that while medical expertise may be present, the client experience and communication aspects are areas where perceptions differ significantly among patrons.

Environment: Functional with Reported Communication Challenges

The physical environment of Rough River Veterinary Clinic is implied to be a standard veterinary practice setting, though specific details are not provided. The operational hours are mentioned as having a break for lunch, which, as noted by one client, is not always clearly communicated online, leading to frustration for those traveling a distance. This suggests that while the facility is functional, there may be gaps in readily available information about its daily schedule, which can impact client convenience. The atmosphere, from a client interaction standpoint, has been described as challenging by some. One review recounts instances of "non-answers" from receptionists and difficulty in speaking directly with a doctor, leading to a sense of being unheard or dismissed. This feedback points to potential issues with the clinic's communication protocols and front-desk customer service, which can create a less welcoming or reassuring environment for concerned pet owners.

Services Offered: General Veterinary Care

As a "Pet Hospital," Rough River Veterinary Clinic generally offers a range of core veterinary services essential for animal health. Based on the provided information, these services include:

  • General Medical Examinations and Treatment: The clinic provides routine examinations and treatments for various animal ailments, as indicated by a client bringing a cat in for "runny eyes."

  • Prescription of Medications: Medications, such as eyedrops, are prescribed as part of treatment plans. However, one review raised concerns about the safety and ingredients of a prescribed medication, indicating a need for clear communication regarding medication details.

  • Addressing Injuries: The clinic handles injuries such as broken ankles, though one client expressed dissatisfaction with the monitoring and follow-up care for such conditions.

  • Surgical and Life-Saving Interventions: While specific surgical procedures are not detailed, the statement that a client's "calico cat would not be alive today without their knowledge and experience" implies that the clinic performs critical interventions, possibly including surgeries, that contribute to saving animals' lives.

It's important to note that the detailed scope of services, such as preventative care, vaccinations, dental procedures, advanced diagnostics (like X-rays and lab work), or emergency services, is not explicitly outlined in the provided customer feedback. However, a "Pet Hospital" typically offers these as part of comprehensive care. The concerns raised by clients primarily revolve around the delivery and communication surrounding these services, rather than their sheer availability.

Features: Varied Customer Service Experience and Medical Outcomes

Rough River Veterinary Clinic exhibits features that are perceived differently by clients:

  • Medical Expertise with Life-Saving Capabilities: A significant feature, as acknowledged by a critical reviewer, is the clinic's capacity for performing "good work" and having the "knowledge and experience" to save an animal's life. This indicates that the veterinary professionals possess essential medical skills.

  • Challenges in Client Communication and Responsiveness: A recurring theme in negative reviews is the reported difficulty in communication. This includes "vague answers," concerns being "ignored," "non-answers" from receptionists, and a lack of proactive communication regarding issues like missing items or medication details. The absence of a phone call, despite claims, and the expectation for clients to initiate inquiries about solutions like shipping highlight a potential gap in their customer service protocol.

  • Inconsistent Patient Monitoring: For conditions like a broken ankle, one client expressed severe dissatisfaction with the lack of monitoring and suggestions for follow-up X-rays, leading to prolonged suffering. This suggests potential inconsistencies in post-treatment care and monitoring protocols for some cases.

  • Record-Keeping and Client Perception Issues: The detailed account of the client's medical record reflecting perceived "falsehoods" and mischaracterizations ("very aggressive," "demanded") is a critical feature that impacts trust and transparency. This suggests a potential disconnect between the client's experience and how their interactions are documented internally, raising concerns about the accuracy and bias within medical records.

  • Unclear Policy on Lunch Closures: The lack of clear online communication about daily lunch closures is a practical feature that inconveniences clients, especially those traveling from a distance.

Promotional Information: Reputational Impact of Reviews

Given the nature of the provided reviews, the "promotional information" for Rough River Veterinary Clinic primarily stems from its existing client experiences, which are publicly accessible. While the clinic's medical expertise has been praised in some instances for its life-saving capabilities, the negative experiences detailed by other clients significantly impact its public perception. The strong criticism regarding communication, customer service, and perceived misrepresentation in medical records serves as a cautionary note for potential new clients. For any veterinary clinic, positive word-of-mouth and testimonials are crucial promotional tools, and conversely, negative reviews can significantly deter new business.

There is no information on specific promotional offers, discounts, or payment plans. Potential clients, after reviewing the available feedback, would likely prioritize asking detailed questions about communication protocols, post-procedure monitoring, and clear explanations of prescribed medications. The clinic's response to negative feedback, as seen in the "goodbye letter" and record annotations, also forms a part of its public image and could influence how future clients perceive their willingness to address concerns. Therefore, the clinic's "promotion" is currently driven more by its operational reputation and client interactions than by explicit marketing campaigns.

In the letter i received, it says "in response to your unkind review", even though i never planned to revisit, they decided to drop me as a client and send all medical records to me along with a good bye letter which claimed falsehoods. The letter mentions "it was a mistake that my staff attempted to rectify in calling you", i never received a call from them, ever. The date of the procedure was april 9th. I posted my phone records, never once did they they try to contact me about the missing collar. The letter also states "we would have gladly shipped it to you at no charge", implying i should have asked about getting it shipped, when in my opinion they should have offered this option after realizing the mistake. How could i have asked for that option if i didnt know it existed? Previously i had brought in my cat for runny eyes and they gave me eyedrops to rectify it. Turns out the eyedrops had lots of harmful chemicals, one of which included a caution of blindness when directly in contact with eyes. This was a huge red flag so i went to ask them about this. At the receptionists barrage of non-answers, i frustratingly asked to speak with the doctor, who wasnt avalible. I returned later only to find a locked door, they dont mention that they completely close down for lunch in the hours section of google, which is very frustrating for someone who lives 20 minutes away. I had a note prepared because i was nervous to speak my concerns and left it along with the eyedrops at their door, left this issue alone after that since i couldnt get an explanation of ingredients. Photos of the origional note are attached. They included this notes contents and their version of my behavior within the medical records of the cat involved. The record pictures are attached. They claimed i mispelled multiple words which were completely legible on the note(i did misspell 2 words but the other 3 mistakes was the fault of the office). Its evident that they misspelled alot more than i did by simply looking at the paragraph above where my letter starts. You want to point out my mistakes to discredit me, typing in their records "(please note grammer and spelling errors directly copied from origional letter)", well look in the mirror folks. This record also claims i was "very agressive" and that i "demanded" to see the doctor which was simply not true. I did get aggravated at the receptionists non-answers which is why i ASKED for a trained medical professional to help me understand why this product was good for my cat, like anyone with common sence would. I am dumbfounded by the amount of falsehoods within their side of the story, and wanted to share my experience. All customers of this establishment should ask for copies of their records to ensure accuracy, as i was simply a concerned client asking for clarification made out to look like a "karen". This vets office does good work, my calico cat would not be alive today without their knowledge and experience, but the customer service is absolutely appalling. Luckily, record correction wont be needed as i dont own the cat in question any longer, so their lies will go straight to the trash can.

Great staff! I’ve known Dr Newton for many years but recently moved to the area and I’m so glad to have her office close for my dog’s veterinary needs.

The Dr was so good with Malaki. I'm hoping she feels better soon. All the staff was friendly. Only down side was that they don't take care credit. Other than that it was very comforting to feel their compassion for the animals.

I love the vets here. Have always been sweet to my dogs. I have a dog with severe anxiety and she's been trying to earn her trust. She's so patient with her.
