I arrived 45 minutes early for a morning appointment due to a developing winter storm, and have attached a picture of a small dog I discovered was being kept in an outdoor kennel behind RMAH from 8:00 am (possibly earlier) until approximately 8:45 am. The weather was terrible, with blowing snow mixed with sleet, temperature 35 degrees, wind 14 mph gusting to 20 mph resulting in a 26 degree wind chill (see wx app screenshots). The kennel this poor dog was locked in has a bare concrete floor, with a covered roof but open on all sides providing no protection from the elements. The dog was obviously in distress, shivering and whimpering while pacing around on the cold concrete floor without so much as a pad or blanket. At 8:45 am a technician came to let the dog out. I asked why the dog was kenneled in such poor conditions and she said they had been cleaning the inside cages. When I asked why the dog had no blanket or water dish she replied the dog was scheduled for surgery soon. I recalled the last time I was prepared for surgery, I was placed in a nice quiet room and provided a warmed blanket. Shortly after going inside with my dog, Dr. J stormed out of his back office, tossed me my dogs medical file and said he refused to examine my dog. His “reason” was that I had “verbally abused his employee” (his daughter) which is a lie and ridiculous. He also stated he takes proper care of his patients. I responded it didn’t appear to be so and that I had photographic evidence. I am a former airline pilot, and pilots with anger management issues like Dr. J has (in my opinion) are quickly weeded out, and other pilots are encouraged (i.e. required ) to report improper behavior. Being a small private practice with the only other vet his wife, Dr. J is obviously not used to having any peer oversight and became inappropriately enraged (in my opinion) by questioning the dog’s treatment. As the saying goes, “ a picture is worth a thousand words”, so I’ll let the readers decide for themselves.

- Preventative Care: This includes routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworms), and nutritional counseling to help keep pets healthy and prevent diseases.
- Diagnostics: Access to diagnostic tools such as laboratory services (blood tests, urine tests, fecal exams), digital radiography (X-rays), ultrasound, and other imaging techniques is essential for accurate diagnosis of medical conditions.
- Medical Treatment: The hospital should be equipped to treat a variety of medical conditions, including infections, allergies, gastrointestinal issues, endocrine disorders, and more. This involves administering medications, providing supportive care, and monitoring the pet's progress.
- Surgery: Many Pet Hospitals offer surgical services, ranging from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex surgeries for injuries, illnesses, or tumor removal. Anesthesia monitoring and post-operative care are critical aspects of surgical services.
- Dental Care: Dental health is an important part of overall pet wellness. Services may include dental cleanings, extractions, and treatment of dental diseases.

- Experienced and Compassionate Staff: Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff who are knowledgeable, skilled, and genuinely care about animals are crucial.
- Communication: Clear and open communication between the veterinary team and pet owners is essential for understanding the pet's condition, treatment plan, and any follow-up care.

Apr 08, 2024 · Howdy ThereI’m not sure where to begin with this office. From the staff to the doctor everyone was the best. I was visiting Tennesse when we found a small dog on the side of the road. I knew she would not survive on her own, sick neglected and dumped. Matted so bad it was cutting off circulation. I found Dr Ric on line that same Saturday and he squeezed us in on the same day. This little girl was sick and had a bladder stone the size of Texas, unable to hold her urine. I’m sure that’s why she was thrown away. Two surgeries later we almost lost her. She had been through so much but they were as invested as we were in saving her and through all their best efforts she made it and is thriving living her best life in sunny Florida, chasing lizards and playing with her bulldog sister. I cannot thank Dr Ric and staff at Roan Mountain Animal Hospital for all they did for us and our little baby now known as Pickle. God bless you all! This is her before and after❤️
Apr 02, 2022 · Melissa JuddMy 7 week old kitten 😸 Jen has a eye infection and respiratory infection. I called 2 other animal clinics. They weren't able to see Jen today. But Roan mountain was able to within the hour! When I arrived the staff were very friendly and professional. Doctor Richard was outstanding with Jen and explaining everything to me. I strongly recommend them.
Nov 10, 2022 · RETIREDMCO1199 “God is good!”We took our dog slippery there because he couldn’t walk. He was an older dog. They were so gentle with him and very kind. He needed to be euthanized. They were nothing but kind. We had to cremate him. They sent a wonderful sympathy card and when slippery came home he was placed in the most beautiful box. Thank you for your kindness.
