My German Shepherd was itching himself raw, he had puss coming out and smelled very foul. It broke my heart! My they got him in right away, handled his anxiety so well, took a sample and gave us a pill for itching, an antibiotic, and a shampoo. He was so anxious and they showed him so much love and compassion that when they were looking him over he calmed down so much! It hasn’t even been a week and his scabs are already healed, he’s back to acting like himself, and his coat is already growing back in. I could not say enough wonderful things about how happy I am that we were treated so well and they truly seemed concerned over our boys health! Out of all of the experiences I have had with vet offices I couldn’t say enough great things about how Rio Vista handled the situation. They know our pets are out family!

Welcome to Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital
Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital, located at 9206 Barringer Rd, Painted Post, NY 14870, USA, is a privately and locally owned veterinary practice that has been a cornerstone of animal healthcare in the community since its establishment in 1987. Situated adjacent to the Cohocton River, its name "Rio Vista" (Spanish for "river view") fittingly reflects its scenic location. Initially a mainstay for large animal care in an agricultural region, it has evolved into a comprehensive facility offering exceptional care for a diverse range of animals, including pets, exotic species, and livestock. The hospital operates Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday from 7 AM to 4 PM, and offers Saturday appointments, ensuring accessibility for its clients.
Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital is described as a place "full of love" where pets receive the "best care." This sentiment suggests a warm, welcoming, and comforting environment designed to alleviate the stress often associated with veterinary visits. The facility is equipped to handle a wide array of medical and surgical needs, including specific capabilities for in-house diagnostics, surgery, and even alternative therapies. The design and operation of the hospital focus on minimizing anxiety for patients, as evidenced by a client's German Shepherd calming down significantly during examination due to the "love and compassion" shown by the staff. The presence of multiple veterinarians on staff, including Dr. Dodds, Dr. Robinson, and Dr. Davidson, indicates a well-resourced and comprehensive facility. Furthermore, Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital is proud to have earned the CLEAR blueprint endorsement from Not One More Vet as a certified healthy work environment, which contributes to a positive atmosphere that benefits both staff and clients.

Livestock and Farm Animal Services: While typically requiring animals to come to the office (no mobile emergency services available at this time), they provide medicine and surgery for small ruminants (goats, sheep, alpacas), pot-bellied pigs, and poultry. Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital is characterized by its dedication to compassionate and comprehensive care, reflected in several key features:
Profound Compassion and Love for Animals: Repeatedly highlighted by clients, the staff's ability to handle anxious pets with "so much love and compassion" and to treat them "as our family" is a defining characteristic. This empathy extends to understanding the human-animal bond and showing genuine concern for pets' health.
Responsive and Accessible Care: Their ability to get a severely ill pet "in right away" demonstrates their commitment to addressing urgent health needs promptly, even when busy. This responsiveness is crucial for clients in distress.
Comprehensive Expertise: As a "mixed animal hospital," they possess a broad range of veterinary knowledge, from routine pet care to specialized exotic and livestock medicine, including alternative therapies like acupuncture. This makes them a versatile and reliable resource for the entire community.
Commitment to Quality and Education: Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital aims to consistently improve and offer the best possible services. They prioritize a high "standard of health and standard of care" and provide a Pet Health Library of professionally written articles to empower pet owners with trustworthy information, reflecting their belief in "innovation and education."
Client-Centric Philosophy: Their mission is to "treat each pet as if they are a member of our own family" and practice "respect, courtesy, empathy, and responsibility on a daily basis." This approach fosters strong relationships with clients, many of whom travel significant distances ("We drive 55 mins for this place") because of the exceptional care received.
Healthy Work Environment: Their endorsement from Not One More Vet for a certified healthy work environment indicates a positive internal culture, which directly translates into better care for patients and a more pleasant experience for clients.
The most powerful promotional aspect of Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital comes from the overwhelmingly positive and heartfelt testimonials of its clients. The story of the German Shepherd's rapid recovery and the owner's profound satisfaction, along with the willingness of clients to drive nearly an hour for their services, serve as compelling evidence of the clinic's quality and compassionate approach. Phrases like "This Hospital is full of love" and "I could not say enough wonderful things" are incredibly strong endorsements.
Their online presence, particularly their website (riovistavet.com), effectively communicates their "Rio Vista Promise," built on the pillars of Respect, Innovation, and Outstanding care. They actively welcome new clients, encouraging them to contact the clinic by phone or email. By detailing their extensive services and introducing their team of professional, passionate, and caring animal lovers, they build trust and transparency. The inclusion of a Pet Health Library and an online store for pet supplies further enhances their value proposition to pet owners.

Dec 17, 2024 · Tonya HallRio Vista is a great vet. They're really great with my cat and my dog. Always friendly and personable, making follow up calls after visits to make sure my pets are feeling better. Their prices are also very fair. I've never felt like I was getting ripped off, and they gave us a price break wherever they could when our dog got very sick and had to make several visits. I highly recommend this vet.
Feb 04, 2018 · Clarinda BallietEveryone I met was incredibly kind and helpful. This is also the only office we could find within a reasonable distance (coming out of Bath) who treats birds/poultry, so I’m incredibly grateful this didn’t end up being a $400+ trip to Cornell. They were very understanding and offered the best service they could provide to our gravely injured duck, and were also supportive of our decision to end her suffering rather than put her through surgery. But the fact they were willing to attempt surgery at all, and did everything in their power to make our quote for it the lowest it could possibly be, speaks volumes to the care and compassion they have for not only pets but their owners as well. They ended her suffering in the most humane way possible, and were there for us for every step, even if she was just a duck. They understood she was a pet too. That said, a massive thank you to Dr. Dodds, Rochelle and Karen for taking care of our girl and bringing a peaceful end to a highly unfortunate circumstance. At a very reasonable price too. The empathy and care they have for patients and pet parents is very apparent and hugely appreciated. Thanks again.
