As any puppy mom I was a nervous wreck getting my Ellie spayed. PAWS wasn’t my primary vet but i saw the pricing and thought this was too good to be true. PAWS did an amazing job with my Ellie and answered all my questions. I 100% recommend. As you can see about three weeks out from surgery she’s healed amazing !!!!

Putnam Animal Wellness distinguishes itself by focusing on a model that emphasizes essential and preventative care, making it a crucial resource for many families. While operating as a "Pet Hospital," their specific strength lies in offering low-cost solutions for services that are often a significant financial burden for pet owners, such as spaying, neutering, and dental procedures, alongside comprehensive wellness care. This strategic approach ensures that more pets in the community can receive necessary medical attention, ultimately contributing to a healthier pet population.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at Putnam Animal Wellness is described by clients as welcoming and professional, instilling confidence in pet owners. A review from a "nervous wreck" puppy mom highlights how PAWS made her and her dog "Ellie" feel at ease during a spay procedure. This indicates a clinic atmosphere where staff are not only skilled but also genuinely kind and caring. The clinic aims to be a place where pets and their owners feel comfortable, even during potentially stressful visits like surgeries. The staff are noted for being "wonderful, very responsive," and the vet is praised as a "great listener" who "provides great quality care." This emphasis on attentive and empathetic communication contributes significantly to a positive experience, helping to alleviate client anxieties. The facility itself is described as "clean, safe, and friendly," underscoring their commitment to providing a conducive environment for both routine visits and surgical procedures. Their dedication to maintaining a sterile environment, especially in their surgical suite, using individually autoclaved surgical packs, speaks to their high standards of care and hygiene.

Services Offered

Putnam Animal Wellness provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services, with a notable focus on affordability, particularly for surgical and preventative care. Their primary offerings include:

  • Spay and Neuter Services: This is a cornerstone of their practice, with specific low-cost pricing for cat spays ($295), cat neuters ($250), dog spays (ranging from $360-$525 based on weight), dog neuters (ranging from $325-$500 based on weight), and even rabbit spays or neuters ($350). They require bloodwork for pets over 1 year of age and perform pre-operative physical examinations to ensure patient safety.
  • Dental Services: PAWS offers affordable dental care, emphasizing the importance of oral health for pets. Estimates are provided after a pre-dental exam.
  • Vaccinations: A full suite of essential vaccinations for dogs and cats is available, including Rabies (1-year and 3-year options), Canine Distemper (5-in-1), Lepto/Lyme combo, Bordetella, Canine Influenza, Feline Distemper, and Feline Leukemia.
  • Wellness and Sick Visits: They provide routine examinations for healthy pets and appointments for sick pets, addressing common illnesses and injuries. These include services like ear cleaning, anal gland expression, nail trims, deworming, heartworm/Lyme tests, FeLV/FIV tests, and microchip placement.
  • Diagnostics: While not a full-service hospital with extensive in-house diagnostics like X-ray or ultrasound for immediate emergencies, they perform necessary blood tests and fecal analyses to aid in diagnosis. For advanced procedures, they collaborate with local specialty practices.
  • Mobile Services: PAWS also offers mobile veterinary services, extending their reach to various locations, including Nanuet, Fishkill, Haverstraw, and Middletown, further enhancing convenience for pet owners.

It is important to note that while they offer a broad range of services, their model prioritizes affordability by focusing on these high-demand preventative and surgical procedures. They aim to reduce overhead by not maintaining the full array of diagnostic and treatment equipment found in a large, full-service emergency hospital, passing those savings on to their clients.

Distinguishing Features

Putnam Animal Wellness stands out due to several key features:

  • Affordable Pricing: This is consistently highlighted in customer reviews and is a core part of their mission. The "too good to be true" pricing mentioned by a client for a spay procedure is a testament to their value proposition. They strive to provide basic health care needs at a fair price, making pet ownership more sustainable for many families.
  • High-Quality Care with Compassion: Despite the lower costs, PAWS does not compromise on the quality of care. The reviews speak volumes about the dedication and professionalism of the staff and veterinarians. Phrases like "amazing job," "great quality care," and "do not worry when they take my baby" illustrate the trust and satisfaction clients have in their services. They maintain high standards for surgical procedures, including safe anesthetic agents and monitoring.
  • Specialization in Preventative and Surgical Care: By focusing heavily on spay/neuter, vaccinations, and dentistry, they achieve efficiency and expertise in these critical areas, which benefits pet health on a broader community level by reducing pet overpopulation and promoting wellness.
  • Client Education and Communication: The staff and vets are praised for being "great listeners" and for taking the time to answer questions and provide information. This commitment to open and honest communication ensures that pet owners are informed partners in their pet's healthcare journey.
  • Convenient Scheduling: They offer specific days for exams, vaccines, and general veterinary care (Sunday, Wednesday evening) and dedicate other weekdays to surgery, providing a structured approach to appointments.
Promotional Information and Community Engagement

Putnam Animal Wellness actively promotes its services through its clear value proposition of high-quality, affordable care. Their website lists detailed pricing for common procedures, offering transparency to potential clients. While specific, temporary promotional offers are not detailed, their consistent emphasis on "low-cost" and "affordable" services acts as a continuous draw. They also engage the community by making essential veterinary services accessible, particularly for procedures like spay/neuter that address pet overpopulation. Their commitment to treating each animal with the "highest regard and concern" and their dedication to "decreasing the devastating effects of pet overpopulation" speak to a strong ethical foundation. They also emphasize client convenience with forms available online to save time at appointments and accept major credit cards and Care Credit. By providing such essential services at competitive rates, Putnam Animal Wellness serves a vital role in promoting responsible pet ownership and ensuring the well-being of animals in Brewster and the surrounding regions.

I can’t say enough good things about this office, both the front desk, techs and Dr John are all amazing. I have a very reactive 7 year old rescue, named Harley, who is a nightmare at the vet. She’s extremely anxious which can sometimes turn to aggression, and to top it off She gets reoccurring ear infections so we have to bring her in often lately and I’m always so anxious days leading up to her appointment and day of especially. They always get me in quickly, are very accommodating to her being reactive, they let us wait in the car and call when she’s ready to come in as well as supplying muzzles if needed. But most important Dr John’s calm and confident demeanor helps get Harley treated without any issues. She usually does require sedation because of her anxiety but I have had vets turn us away or be hesitant because of her reactivity and I really believe the doctors calmness and confidence works wonders with Harley. Also their pricing is the best pricing I’ve found in the area, literally half of what you’d pay anywhere else, and the service is just as excellent if not better than what I’ve experienced else where. Thank you so much for making a stressful situation, a little less stressful it means the world to Harley and I!

My cat went in for itchy ears and they made me give him his vaccines and he had a double ear infection but anyway my cat came out sicker then he was.... he was fine. Now it's been two weeks or so but after a day he couldn't breathe his nose was all clogged and everything. Also he is to weak to use the cat liter box and not eating nor drinking Now. I might even have to put my 5 year old cat my baby to rest..... never again will I bring my babies to this vet. It's sad. That is him all day long til I had feed him to something in him. My poor baby. Also what vet won't let you in the room with your baby. Only this one.
