We recently moved to the area and decided to try this vet. This was Sally's first time here and she was very well-behaved. Dr. Connolly (?) was so very helpful and gave us all the information we needed. The young lady with amazing blue eyes and all the other people we interacted with in the clinic were friendly and helpful with all the needs of Sally. We will return for any further treatment.

Welcome to Pointer Trail Animal Clinic

Pointer Trail Animal Clinic, located at 113 Pointer Trail, Van Buren, AR 72956, USA, stands as a well-established and highly regarded veterinary facility within the "Pet Hospital" category. With a history stretching back to its opening in October 1989, this clinic has consistently aimed to provide the highest quality of veterinary care for pets in Van Buren and the surrounding areas, including Fort Smith and Alma. Their core philosophy is built on honesty, compassion, and excellence in care, a sentiment strongly echoed in customer feedback. You can reach them by phone at (479) 471-8221 or via mobile at +1 479-471-8221.

As a full-service animal clinic, Pointer Trail Animal Clinic offers a wide array of medical and surgical services, distinguishing itself from more specialized vaccination clinics. This means that pet owners can rely on them for a comprehensive range of needs, from routine preventive care to more complex medical issues and surgical procedures.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at Pointer Trail Animal Clinic is consistently described by clients as welcoming and friendly. The facility appears to be a traditional veterinary clinic setting, designed to be comfortable for both pets and their owners. Unlike larger, more corporate veterinary chains, there's a strong sense of a community-focused practice, which often translates into a more personalized and caring atmosphere.

Customer reviews highlight the clinic's staff as "amazingly friendly" and "great," indicating a warm and supportive environment even during challenging times, such as when pets need to be put down. The compassionate approach is a recurring theme, suggesting that the clinic prioritizes not only the physical well-being of the animals but also the emotional comfort of their human companions. For new clients, like the one who recently moved to the area with their dog Sally, the experience was positive, with staff being "friendly and helpful with all the needs of Sally." This suggests an organized and efficient, yet still personal, clinic experience. The long tenure of many staff members, with most having been with the practice for over 10 years, further contributes to a stable and experienced environment, fostering trust and familiarity for regular clients.

Comprehensive Services Provided

Pointer Trail Animal Clinic offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services for small animals, primarily focusing on dogs and cats, but also extending care to "pocket pets." Their services reflect the capabilities of a full-service "Pet Hospital," including:

  • General Medical Care: This encompasses routine check-ups, preventative health care, and diagnosis and treatment for various illnesses and conditions affecting dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
  • Pet Vaccinations: Keeping pets protected from common and serious diseases is a cornerstone of their preventive care, with a full range of vaccinations available.
  • Small Animal Surgery: The clinic offers a wide range of surgical services. This includes routine procedures such as:
    • Spaying and Neutering
    • Cat Declaw (a service that some clinics no longer offer, indicating a broader scope here)
    • Dental Procedures (essential for overall pet health)
    • Simple Orthopedics (addressing basic bone and joint issues)
    • Growth Removals (for benign and malignant growths)
    • Laser Surgery (offering precision and potentially quicker recovery for some procedures)
  • Preventative Health Care: Beyond vaccinations, this includes comprehensive strategies to keep pets healthy and prevent disease, such as heartworm prevention, and flea and tick control.
  • Heartworm Prevention: They provide necessary testing and prescriptions for heartworm prevention, a critical aspect of pet health in the region.
  • Pet Microchipping: A vital service for pet identification and reunion in case a pet gets lost, they offer microchip implantation.
  • In-house Pharmacy and Products: The clinic stocks and sells a variety of pet products, including the ProPlan line of pet food (both regular and prescription formulas), and various flea and tick products such as Vectra 3D, Catago, Seresto Collars, Bravecto, and NexGard. They also offer assorted pet shampoos and collars. Their online pharmacy via Covetrus further expands access to a wide range of medications, food, and supplies for both dogs and cats, covering categories like flea & tick, heartworm, prescription foods, medications for various conditions (allergy, antifungal, anxiety, etc.), dental care, nutritional supplements, and medical supplies.

It is important to note that while they offer extensive care, their website explicitly states they do not provide medical care for birds or snakes. For emergency or complex cases outside their scope, they would likely refer to a specialized emergency clinic.

Distinguishing Features

Pointer Trail Animal Clinic's features that make it a preferred choice for pet owners include:

  • Experienced and Compassionate Staff: The customer reviews consistently highlight the staff's kindness, friendliness, and caring nature. The fact that many staff members have been with the clinic for over a decade speaks to a stable and dedicated team. Dr. Mary Ann Boone, who graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986 and has been practicing in the River Valley Area for over 30 years, has been at the helm since the clinic opened in 1989. Her extensive experience and long-standing presence provide a strong foundation of expertise and continuity of care.
  • Comprehensive Care Under One Roof: As a full-service clinic, pet owners don't need to visit multiple facilities for different needs, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to surgeries and dental procedures. This holistic approach simplifies pet care management.
  • Community Involvement: Dr. Boone's involvement in local community groups, such as the Girl Scouts, McCafferty School of Irish Dance, and the Belle Point Quilters Guild, demonstrates a deep connection to the Van Buren community, fostering trust and loyalty.
  • Professional Affiliations: The clinic's membership in the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association (VMA), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), and the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce underscores their commitment to professional standards and local business community engagement.

Promotional Information and Accessibility

While specific, time-limited promotional offers like "free first exams" are not overtly advertised on their main website, Pointer Trail Animal Clinic emphasizes providing value through their comprehensive services and competitive pricing within the local market. Their focus on preventative care and stocking a range of pet products directly at the clinic, including prescription foods and flea/tick preventatives, offers convenience and can help pet owners manage costs by accessing necessary items directly from their trusted vet.

They also leverage an online pharmacy powered by Covetrus, which can often provide access to a wider selection of products and potentially offer competitive pricing or home delivery options that benefit customers. While direct discount codes or widespread promotional campaigns are not the primary focus of their online presence, the availability of various payment options like pet insurance, wellness plans (offered by some insurance providers), and financing solutions such as CareCredit and Scratchpay indicates their willingness to help clients manage the financial aspects of veterinary care. This demonstrates a commitment to accessibility beyond just direct discounts, focusing on long-term affordability and peace of mind for pet owners.

Their hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, making them accessible during standard working hours for appointments. The welcoming and professional atmosphere, combined with a comprehensive range of services and a dedicated, experienced team, makes Pointer Trail Animal Clinic a highly recommended "Pet Hospital" for pet owners in Van Buren, AR, and surrounding areas.

Amazingly friendly. We unfortunately had to put our old dog down. They got us in on pretty short notice. And treated us like we have known us for years . Great staff .

I would give zero stars if i could. My grandma dog was attacked by other dogs. She brought her poor dog to this clinic. They told her that they were going to keep her dog for 4 days. They sent her home saying she was doing better after 2 days. Well her dog died within hours of going home. NOT ONLY did they send her dog home early they still charged her the full price for the stay. Very unprofessional. Should rethink your profession.
