Honestly, not worth going here. Went for the heartworm clinic on the weekend. My dog was not at all comfortable with the vet and neither were we. She told us a lot of things that were contrary to what we were hearing from our own vet (he’s underweight, I have special food. The food you’re using is bad etc even thought it was recommended by our main vet). She then went on to recommend skin supplements, told him he would loose his teeth. If we were allowing our dog to be in such a dire condition, I am sure we would have heard it sooner. She is money-focused, not pet focused. She also was reprimanding a staff member when we walked in, and it was extremely uncomfortable. Will not visit again.

Point Loma Veterinary Clinic Introduce

Welcome to Point Loma Veterinary Clinic, your local Pet Hospital Near You, located at 1964 Sunset Cliffs Blvd in San Diego, California. While we aim to provide veterinary care for your pets, recent customer reviews present significant concerns regarding our practices and patient well-being.

The environment at Point Loma Veterinary Clinic received mixed feedback. One customer found the staff and Dr. Cardeiro to be kind and gentle with their cat during the exam. However, another described an uncomfortable atmosphere, witnessing a staff member being reprimanded. Additionally, one pet owner reported that their dog was visibly uncomfortable with the vet during their visit.

At Point Loma Veterinary Clinic, our services include check-ups and vaccinations. However, there are serious concerns raised about the appropriateness and necessity of some recommended treatments. One customer reported that Dr. Cardeiro recommended leukemia and FIP vaccines for an 11-year-old indoor cat, which a second veterinarian from an AAHA-accredited hospital deemed unnecessary and potentially harmful, suggesting outdated practices. This resulted in the cat experiencing lethargy, depression, a paralyzed nostril, and vomiting post-vaccination. Another customer felt the vet was money-focused, contradicting their regular vet's advice and recommending unnecessary supplements.

A key feature of Point Loma Veterinary Clinic, according to one review, is the initial kindness and gentleness of the staff and Dr. Cardeiro during examinations. However, significant concerns are raised about the veterinary practices, including the recommendation of potentially unnecessary and harmful vaccines based on outdated information, and a perceived focus on financial gain over patient well-being. The refusal to refund a customer after their cat experienced an adverse reaction to these vaccines and a second opinion confirmed the outdated practices is also a serious issue. These factors suggest potential risks for local users considering this clinic for their pet's care in San Diego, CA.

Currently, there is no promotional information available. However, due to the serious concerns raised in recent customer reviews regarding potentially outdated and harmful veterinary practices, a perceived focus on financial gain, and poor patient outcomes, local users in San Diego, CA, are strongly advised to consider these factors carefully before entrusting the care of their pets to Point Loma Veterinary Clinic. We encourage potential clients to seek second opinions and thoroughly research the current best practices in veterinary medicine before proceeding with any treatments recommended by this clinic. Contact us at (619) 222-4482 or +1 619-222-4482 for further information, but please be aware of the reported issues.

I brought my cat into this clinic for a check-up and now deeply regret my decision to trust Dr. Cardeiro with the health of my cat. I am giving two stars because my experience in the clinic was generally positive--the staff and Dr. Cardeiro were kind and gentle with my cat in the exam room. But that is the extent of my positive feedback. Dr. Cardeiro took advantage of my lack of expertise as a non-veterinarian and recommended two vaccines--leukemia and FIP--for my 11 year old indoor cat. In hindsight, I should have questioned her and done some quick research before agreeing, but I trusted her. Now, three days later, my previously vivacious, healthy, happy cat is still lethargic and depressed, one nostril is paralyzed, and she is occasionally retching or vomiting--all of which are new after visiting this clinic. After some research, I learned that these vaccines (especially the FIP vaccine) are unnecessary for a senior indoor cat at best, and at worst, can be harmful or deadly. [Edit: I confirmed with another vet who works at a AAHA accredited animal hospital and he confirmed that FIP vaccines are no longer recommended. He said I should not bring my cat to this clinic again because Dr. Cardeiro obviously does not keep up with current practices.] I called and asked for a refund and they refused.

My puppy comes here after he was diagnosed with a pretty serious infection and they’ve made us feel safe snd cared for. Thank you :) Update: I applied to work there and they had me sit in the office for 2 hours before telling me they were not going to hire me. They had already chosen another candidate. The office was Not busy. The vet Dr.C told me this AFTER sitting for 2 hours and then tried to get me to schedule my dog for another appointment. Seems money driven and my two dogs will never go back to that scam artist. I only wrote the first review for the discount. Don’t go here. Unprofessional, outdated, and unorganized. Update 2: I didn’t “walk my dog” I took him outside for less than 5 minutes to tinkle because he is 9 months old and you took 2 hours to approach us and I never left the front of the building. Mind you, you ASKED me to bring my dog into the interview. You didn’t ask me any interview question pertaining to the job. You asked about my current place of work and started talking about topical things about that place of work and then you talked about your son then told me you were “probably going with a more qualified candidate but appreciated my interest.” Immediately followed by trying to get me to book an appointment. Be realistic.

We were on vacation in Ocean Beach with our 2 dogs and they both got sick. Point Loma Vet Clinic got us right in, treated us so well, and didn't try to push any care on us that wasn't needed. We were so grateful and can't say enough good things about the staff here.

I went here today to get my two cats their annual exams and vaccines. The staff were extremely polite and warm. One of my cats is extremely anxious and threw up in his carrier but the staff were accommodating and insisted on helping me clean it up! This was so touching because I was nervous myself about how my cats are going to do at the vet. And when the doctor walked into the room, she seemed to have an extremely calming effect on my anxious cat which surprised me because he is so skittish, even with me at times. I was worried about him freaking out but everything went smooth and the doctor was thorough with exam. Other clinics I’ve worked with in the past have rushed through it. At this clinic, if you’re patient, you’ll at least know your pets are cared for. I was also given advice on how to make my cats more comfortable at home. I highly recommend trying this place out and I am not one to typically do reviews. I just really care for my felines. Shout out to one of the staff members, I think her name was Mikaila 👍
