Services

Pleasure Island Animal Hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services, addressing both preventive wellness and complex medical conditions for small animals, primarily dogs and cats. Their services are designed to support a pet's health throughout their lifespan:

  • Preventive Care & Physical Examinations: This is the fundamental step in maintaining a pet's health. The clinic emphasizes yearly physical exams, wellness blood work, and discussions about care, recognizing that pets age faster than humans. They strive to detect problems in their early stages and educate owners on the best preventive care strategies.

  • Diagnostics: A crucial aspect of effective treatment, the clinic provides essential diagnostic capabilities, including:

    • Complete Blood Count (CBC) & Chemistry Panel: For comprehensive assessment of organ function and blood cell counts.
    • Radiographs (X-rays): For imaging internal structures and aiding in diagnosis.
    • Cytology / Biopsy: For microscopic examination of cells and tissues to diagnose diseases like tumors.
    • Cultures: To identify bacterial or fungal infections.
    • Ophthalmology Diagnostics: Including corneal stains, intraocular pressure checks, and Schirmer Tear Tests to assess eye health.
    • Advanced Imaging: Echocardiograms (heart ultrasounds) and abdominal ultrasounds are performed by a traveling ultrasonographer, providing specialized non-invasive diagnostic capabilities.

  • Soft Tissue Surgery: The hospital offers a range of surgical services. Each surgery begins with a pre-surgical examination to discuss post-operative care, costs, and other planning with the doctor. Pre-operative tests are performed as needed to ensure patient safety under anesthesia.

  • Dental Cleanings: Recognizing the importance of oral health, the clinic performs dental scaling, polishing, and extractions (if needed). They also educate clients on at-home dental health care tips to maintain good dental hygiene and prevent issues like bad breath, red or swollen gums, and difficulty eating.

  • Client Education: A strong emphasis is placed on counseling families about treatment options, ensuring pet owners are well-informed to make the best decisions for their pets.

I totally trust them with the health care of my two dogs. They took great care of my sweet girl after finding a tumour on her. 4 months later, and she has recovered great from surgery. No complications. Thank you.

On July 1st 2022 I had to have my bulldog “Brutus” put to sleep at Pleasure Island Animal Hospital. Brutus had been a patient here for almost two years off and on. Pleasure Island Animal Hospital always took great care of my gentle giant. My wife and I are so pleased with the way our Brutus was treated. Dr. Todd and Dr. Cottrell made his transition so peaceful and pain free. Both of these wonderful doctors sat on the floor with Brutus, myself and my wife to help comfort him and to make the whole procedure go smoothly. My wife and I are so thankful to Pleasure Island Animal Hospital for helping us through this difficult time. We are missing our Brutus so very much but we know he is at peace.

Unbelievable... I have been a seasonal resident of Carolina Beach for 19 years and for the first time wanted more than needed to see a veterinarian while staying. I contacted Pleasure Island Animal Hospital and explained my proactive request to see the veterinarian. I informed them she was a small miniature pincher. I was told all of her records would have to be forwarded from her previous vet/vets and that they would review those once received. I was then told it would take "one to two weeks for them to make a determination if my dog was a good fit for them". Seriously?!!! My dog is certainly not in a life threatening situation thank goodness but imagine waiting 2 weeks to meet a vet in a proactive situation. Imagine in a crisis?!! I kindly told them I didn't think they were a good fit for my dog. Something for you to think about also if you too are searching for a new veterinarian.

Do not ever take your pet anywhere but here!! These people are honest, experienced and accommodating in every way. In these scary times I’ve been made to feel safe while bringing my pooch in. You can see they love my baby as much as I do!!! ❤️🐕‍🦺
