I had to bring in my dog last minute because my regular vet was closed. I called around 2pm and they were able to squeeze me in at 4pm. I was a bit nervous because my dog tends to be anxious at our regular vet. The front desk worker/tech was a younger guy and was absolutely AMAZING with my dog. I wish I would’ve caught his name. He played with my dog, gave him a few treats and made my dog feel comfortable. The result was my pup being really comfortable in this new environment! The doctor was very polite and professional and handled our case appropriately. He was very thorough in asking questions about my dog’s current illness. For 2 medications, 3 injections an exam and a pannel, our total was only $255. Thank you so much for your service! My furry feiend and I appreciate you!

This past Saturday morning I found my mom's 18 year old cat (who we inherited and were caring for after her death) collapsed and clearly experiencing some kind of major catastrophic health event (Dr. Shaw thought it was likely a cardiac event). All I knew was I needed to get her help ASAP. I searched Google for the closest vet and immediately got her in my car and drove to Pittsburgh Animal Hospital. I was desperate to make sure that she didn't suffer. Dr. Shaw and his staff saw us immediately, no issues about not having an appointment. He quickly assessed her, gave her a sedative, and helped ensure her passing was without any pain. Dr. Shaw was so gentle and kind when handling her. His staff were so kind and helpful also with arranging for her cremation so I can bury her in my mom's garden at home. . My husband and I are so deeply grateful for the help and support of this practice during a very difficult situation. Thank you so much! 💓

Dr. Shaw told me my dog had a heart problem involving a weak heartbeat with a faulty rhythm and told me I needed to go see a vet cardiologist before he would chip her (my dog) because chipping her would require anesthesia and with a heart problem he would t take the risk. I submitted this review because none of what he told me was true. My dog has no heart issues verified by two other vets with animal rescue league, furthermore she did not need anesthesia and got chipped without it. Now I suspect Dr. Shaw may be getting commissions to send dogs to the animal hospital with a cardio specialist because why else would he make all of that up. I suspect he was trying to upsell me because I have a rare expensive breed and he thought he could make it more involved than it needed to be. I would strongly advise finding a different vet and if you do use him and he tells you your dog has some severe medical Issue requiring a specialist you get a second opinion. I am not the only person in his reviews claiming their pet did not have the medical issues Dr Shaw claimed the pet had. The second issue that is less of a concern but still fits the profile of someone who disrespects you and wants your money is that Dr. Shaw is rude and talked to me like I was stupid simply for asking questions. The first time it happened it was my first visit with my new puppy and I shrugged it off as - maybe he is having a bad day- my second (and final) visit he was similarly very rude and condescending. All he needed to be was matter of fact but instead he chose derisive weird energy. That’s not the kind of experience anyone wants to have, very bad news about a loved pet that turned out to be false and given in such a way that tried to make you feel stupid for asking about it.

We got a new kitten and she needed to be tested immediately for FIV. My regular vet couldn't see her for 3 weeks. I called this place and they could see her the same day. They were awesome. She got an exam and two medications and the whole thing was only $190. I will probably start coming here with my other animals.

I just wanted to share a positive review — I just took my parent’s dog to a vet that isn’t thorough at all. I was in and out of that clinic in 20 minutes , including payment and weight check . So, I feel so glad that my dog goes to Pittsburgh Animal Hospital . They are again thorough , great with my dog ( who has extreme anxiety ) and they helped me figure out the right diet for him.
