Been going here for many years. Overall happy, but they need to update things, including some policies. It's getting to where I hope it becomes a priority. In this day and age when we can deposit checks online with a photo I shouldn't have to drive 10 miles to pick up a piece of paper so my dog can get special food. A bathroom would be nice too. I know it's tough, but updating is important. They do treat my animals well and that bottom line is what counts. There are some days when I consider trying another place.

Welcome to Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital: Forgeron Celeste DVM
Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital, with Dr. Forgeron Celeste DVM, located at 220 Western Ave, Augusta, ME 04330, USA, stands as a long-standing institution in the greater Augusta area, providing high-quality veterinary care since 1951. This establishment operates as a full-service small animal hospital, equipped to handle a diverse range of pet health needs, from routine preventive care to complex medical and surgical interventions. The hospital's phone number is (207) 622-6181, and their mobile phone is +1 207-622-6181.
The environment at Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital is designed to facilitate comprehensive animal care. While specific details about the waiting area aesthetics or individual exam room decor are not widely publicized, the focus is clearly on functionality and the ability to provide advanced medical services. The hospital boasts a well-equipped facility with advanced equipment and technologies. This includes in-house capabilities for diagnostics such as blood work, digital X-rays, and ultrasounds. They also have a dedicated surgical suite, a dental suite, and an in-house pharmacy, all contributing to an environment where a wide array of pet healthcare needs can be addressed efficiently and effectively.
In terms of operational environment, particularly in response to public health concerns, the hospital has implemented protocols such as drop-off and curbside check-ins for appointments, with staff wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, gowns, and masks. This indicates a commitment to both patient care and staff safety. The ability to process payments over the phone and offer medication delivery further streamlines the client experience, adapting to modern needs.
Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services, treating pets as if they were their own family members. These services encompass:
- Wellness Exams: Routine wellness exams are emphasized as crucial for preventative care, often including blood work and fecal testing to catch illnesses early.
- Dentistry: Comprehensive dental care, including annual routine cleanings, digital X-rays, tooth extractions, and minor oral surgery, is provided to maintain overall pet health. They also have specialized dental equipment for exotic small mammals like rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and rodents.
- Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy meets immediate medication needs, supplemented by an online pharmacy for convenient home delivery of medications and prescription diets.
- Surgery: Routine surgical procedures are performed multiple days a week. For all surgical procedures, pre-anesthetic blood work and an IV catheter are mandatory, ensuring patient safety and effective administration of fluids and pain medications. Post-surgery, patients go home with pain medications and an e-collar or recovery suit for optimal recovery.
- Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency hospital, they strive to accommodate urgent cases as fit-in or drop-off appointments, subject to availability. They can also refer to emergency centers for more advanced care when necessary.
- Diagnostics: Equipped with in-house capabilities for X-rays and ultrasounds, they can quickly determine internal issues. Their in-house laboratory can perform blood work, urinalysis for UTIs, and fecal samples for parasites. Specialized diagnostics can also be sent to outside laboratories.
- End-of-Life Services: Recognizing the emotional difficulty of saying goodbye, the staff provides support and discusses options such as hospice care or euthanasia with families.
- Specialized Exotic Animal Care: A notable feature is their expertise in exotic veterinary medicine. They accept new clients for small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, hedgehogs, rodents, sugar gliders), reptiles, fish, amphibians (including specialized equipment and interest from Dr. Zellar), and birds.
- Other Services: This includes laser surgery, radiosurgery, endoscopy, pain management (including low-level laser therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma joint injections), internal medicine, infectious disease medicine, geriatric and pediatric medicine, second opinions, behavioral assistance, egg-laying and medical/surgical support for birds, microchipping/bird banding, nail trims, sanitary clippings, medical grooming, allergy consultations and treatment, anesthesia with monitoring techniques, fluid infusion pumps, hospitalization capabilities, parasite control, prescription foods, specialist referrals, vaccinations, wound management, and domestic and international health certificates.
Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features:
- Long-Standing History: Operating since 1951, the hospital has a rich history in the Augusta community, indicating experience and an established presence.
- AAHA Accreditation: The hospital has been continuously certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1956. This accreditation, which occurs every three years, signifies a commitment to high standards in surgical, medical, and patient care.
- Comprehensive In-House Capabilities: The ability to perform a wide range of diagnostics and procedures on-site, including digital X-rays, ultrasounds, and a full laboratory, allows for efficient and effective care.
- Expertise in Exotic Animals: Their specialized focus and acceptance of a wide variety of exotic pets, beyond just cats and dogs, makes them a go-to clinic for owners of less common companions. This includes specialized dental equipment for small exotic mammals and specific interest in amphibian medicine.
- Committed and Compassionate Staff: Customer reviews frequently highlight the caring and professional nature of the staff, who are noted for treating animals well and genuinely caring for pets. Dr. Celeste Forgeron, for example, is noted for her interest in science and love of animals, particularly feline medicine, and her commitment to making a difference in pets' lives daily.
While explicit promotional offers are not readily available through general information, the hospital’s commitment to providing quality care at every stage of a pet’s life serves as its primary promotion. Their dedication to continuing education and investing in new technology also speaks to their desire to offer the best possible services.
Customer reviews provide valuable insights into the hospital's reputation. One long-time client expressed overall happiness with the care provided, stating, "They do treat my animals well and that bottom line is what counts." However, this review also points to a need for internal policy and facility updates, mentioning a desire for a bathroom and less reliance on physical paperwork for things like special food prescriptions. This feedback suggests areas for potential improvement in client convenience and modernization.
Another positive review highlights the hospital's effectiveness in urgent situations, with a client reporting that their dog, Toby, who was in severe pain, was quickly diagnosed with a slipped disc via X-ray and is now on the mend, expressing gratitude with "Thank You!" Other testimonials praise the staff as friendly, compassionate, and professional, and appreciate fair and affordable pricing. Reviews specifically for exotic pet care are overwhelmingly positive, with clients commending the knowledge, helpfulness, and honesty of the vets, particularly for animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, parrots, and bearded dragons.
The hospital's welcome message emphasizes their commitment to being compassionate healthcare professionals dedicated to the well-being and longevity of animal companions. They encourage potential clients to visit the hospital, meet the team, and tour the facility to "see the difference," acting as an open invitation and a form of promotion of their services and ethos.
