Welcome to Pets First Animal Hospital
Welcome to the local introduction of Pets First Animal Hospital, a facility located at 7702 Barnes Rd # 120 in Colorado Springs, CO 80922, USA. As a dedicated "Pet Hospital," Pets First aims to provide a range of services and potentially goods related to the health and well-being of your beloved animal companions, with a notable focus on dental care. This introduction will delve into what you can expect from this establishment, drawing upon available information to give you a comprehensive overview.
While specific details about the hospital's environment aren't explicitly provided in the given information, we can infer some aspects based on the general nature of animal hospitals and the limited customer feedback. Typically, a pet hospital strives to create a clean and comfortable environment for both pets and their owners. This includes examination rooms equipped for various procedures, potentially surgical suites, and areas for patient recovery. Given that Pets First is mentioned as being financially reasonable by one reviewer, it might suggest a focus on providing quality care without the often-associated exorbitant costs of some specialized or boutique veterinary clinics. The mention of fitting in a semi-emergency appointment also hints at a potentially responsive and accommodating approach to immediate pet health concerns, at least in some instances.
As a "Pet Hospital," Pets First Animal Hospital likely offers a spectrum of veterinary services beyond just dental care. These could include routine check-ups, vaccinations, general medical care, diagnostics (such as X-rays and lab work), and potentially surgical procedures. However, the provided information specifically highlights a customer's positive experience with being fitted in for a "semi-emergency," suggesting they are equipped to handle urgent situations. To understand the full scope of their services, including specific dental procedures offered, it is advisable to contact them directly.
Focusing on the dental aspect, as implied by the category and the need for this introduction, Pets First Animal Hospital likely provides a range of dental services crucial for maintaining your pet's oral health. These services commonly include:
- Routine Dental Cleanings (Prophylaxis): This involves scaling and polishing the teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup, helping to prevent periodontal disease, a common issue in pets.
- Dental Examinations: Thorough examinations of your pet's mouth to identify any abnormalities, such as gum disease, broken teeth, or oral masses.
- Dental X-rays: These are essential for assessing the health of the tooth roots and the bone surrounding the teeth, often revealing problems not visible during a regular oral exam.
- Tooth Extractions: Removal of teeth that are severely diseased, damaged, or causing pain.
- Oral Surgery: More complex procedures that may be required to address specific dental conditions.
- Pain Management: Ensuring your pet is comfortable during and after any dental procedures.
- Preventative Dental Care Advice: Guidance on how to care for your pet's teeth at home, including brushing techniques and recommended dental products.
The positive review mentioning the doctor's genuine care for animals suggests a compassionate approach to treatment, which is a significant factor when choosing a veterinary provider. Knowing that the staff is considered "amazing" also points towards a supportive and helpful experience for pet owners.
However, it is crucial to also consider the negative feedback provided. One long-term customer of 15 years shared a deeply disappointing experience where they were allegedly turned away during their 14-year-old dog's end-of-life situation due to being "too busy." This account raises concerns about the hospital's capacity to handle critical and emotionally sensitive situations, particularly for loyal, long-term clients. While the reviewer acknowledges that everyone gets busy, the perceived lack of compassion during a time of great need was profoundly impactful for them. This feedback highlights the importance of considering all perspectives when evaluating a service provider.
To gain a more complete understanding of Pets First Animal Hospital, prospective clients may want to inquire about their:
- Specific Dental Service Offerings: Confirming the range of dental procedures they perform.
- Appointment Availability: Understanding their scheduling procedures, especially for routine and urgent dental needs.
- Emergency Protocols: Clarifying how they handle emergencies, particularly outside of regular hours.
- Staff Qualifications and Experience: Learning about the veterinary professionals who will be caring for your pet's dental health.
- Facility and Equipment: Understanding the resources available for dental diagnostics and treatments.
- Cost of Services: While one review mentioned reasonable pricing, it's always advisable to inquire about the cost of specific procedures.
- Client Communication Practices: How they keep pet owners informed about their pet's treatment plan and progress.
Pets First Animal Hospital can be contacted via phone at (719) 550-1744 or mobile phone at +1 719-550-1744. Reaching out directly will allow you to ask specific questions relevant to your pet's needs and to get a feel for their current practices and availability.
In conclusion, Pets First Animal Hospital, operating within the category of a "Pet Hospital," offers veterinary services that likely include comprehensive dental care for your pets. The positive feedback suggests a caring and financially reasonable approach, with the ability to accommodate some urgent needs. However, the serious negative feedback regarding being turned away during a critical end-of-life situation warrants careful consideration. As a local user seeking pet dental care or other veterinary services, it is recommended to contact Pets First Animal Hospital directly to discuss your specific needs, inquire about their current practices, and determine if they are the right fit for you and your beloved pet. Weighing both the positive and negative feedback alongside your own interactions will be crucial in making an informed decision.

Mar 24, 2025 · Matt RussellWe’ve been bringing our dogs to Pet First for over 15 years. For the most part, things were fine—until we really needed them. Our dog of 14 years was facing a serious, painful end-of-life situation due to cancer. When we called for help, they told us to go to the emergency vet because they were too busy to see her. I get it—everyone’s busy. But after 14 years of care and loyalty, being turned away in our time of greatest need was incredibly disappointing and hurtful. It wasn’t just any appointment. It was the end. We expected compassion. Instead, we felt abandoned.
Apr 09, 2025 · Sonny EspinozaWhen we moved here, we needed to find a vet that was going to take care of our sweet old dogs the way their old vet did. We stopped by here to get them all checked out and were very pleased with the quality of care. The office staff has been attentive and quick to help or resolve any issues, and Dr. Walker is such a treat. She loves old dogs and old dogs love her. I would absolutely recommend this vet for regular care and they'll be able to get your pets in quickly if anything urgent comes up. Even though we're down a pup, they're still here for us and we are so, so grateful. Many thanks from Abby, Chad, Ida, and Wilson 💙
Mar 01, 2022 · AbbyThis is by far the best vet in town and we have tried several! They are not money hungry whatsoever and they truly just do what’s best for the animal. Their pricing is very affordable, the vet always spend so much time explaining stuff and truly is great with humans as well as the animals. The nurse Kim is very knowledgeable and extremely responsive when we have needed anything. Our dogs both have some weird G.I. bug going on and they have been so amazing, allowing us to not even bring them in and just pick up medication when needed!! Highly recommend you switching to Pets first animal Hospital!!!
Jun 19, 2024 · alexis hammondDr. Walker recommended a teeth cleaning last September right after I fostered the aging cat. We were able to get it done finally in May. There were loose and infected teeth. She was having a hairball storm, vomiting daily. I thought it was a normal thing for a long-haired cat. Since the dental work, all of that has stopped. She has a healthy shine to her coat (feels like silk).. Her quality of life and personality have just blossomed. Listen to Dr. Walker when she recommends dental care ❤
