On October 16, 2023, I brought in my miniature dachshund who was suffering from HGE, bloody diarrhea and vomiting. The staff took great care of my precious baby. They were empathetic and understanding and worked with me every step of the way. My weenie dog is alive, happy and well today! I do recommend having savings, Care Credit, AND pet insurance well before an emergency or accident happens because it is VERY Expensive. The initial quote was way out of my price range and budget, but fortunately we were able to negotiate what treatment my weenie dog actually needed and I was able to take her home the next day. You don’t have to say yes to every single recommendation; talk it out and voice your budget concerns as necessary. The vets/doctors change shifts so a different doctor was telling me different things and recommendations which stressed me out so we established treatment within my budget and then we bounced. They did not call us to check up on us for a status update after we left, after the money ran out. Remember there’s your Local Vet, then there’s Urgent Care (usually closes at 8pm) and then there’s the pet ER for life or death emergency services. The pet ER in Chula Vista turned us away when I called them because they were full, so we drove from Chula Vista to the ER in La Mesa. Thank you to all of the doctors and staff!

March 20 I took a stray cat I have been feeding for 3 years into Pet Emergency & Specialty Center. She had been getting extremely skinny and collapsed that day. Rushed her in and found out she had heart disease and apparently a clot had blocked blood flow to her hind legs. Dr. Mandeville and I am pretty sure the office person that helped me was Kenya Baran were the people that helped me. We had to have her put to sleep. They were so kind and so patient with me and so helpful. They both made me feel that I had done the right thing and they helped me through every step of the way! Thank you to both of them. I can’t say enough good things about them!

Although my conure, Kalani, didn’t make it. (She was attacked by a husky and left with deep wounds and internal bleeding. I was surprised she stayed strong for another 3 about 4 days.) I know the exotics department did everything they could to save her. They took her in right away. Kept us updated on how she was doing & the staff was benign. I also appreciate them writing a personal card. It meant a lot. I would call to show my appreciation. But I didn’t want to interfere with them helping others. So I wanted to leave a good review for my appreciation.

We were hesitant to go here due to the bad reviews but we had a very positive experience! My guinea pig had an infected pimples/pores and we were told to take him in. The staff was very friendly and well versed in handling guinea pigs. They provided us with information and provided antibiotics. They give you a quote on the price to make sure you can afford it first. I felt that these doctors could be trusted with my guinea pig. Thank you!

My poor baby got a foxtail in her nose and we had to bring her on the weekend to the emergency vet. They were very informed with how to handle her situation. The veterinarian was skilled and took very good care of the removal of the foxtail. Of course it comes with a cost but considering it's for emergency care it was reasonable. Thank you for being there in times of need!
