These girls at this vet have been so good to me. First visit, I walked in with a whole litter of kittens (5 to be exact). They were kind enough to let me walk in a few days after I had to cancel my appointment due to urgent surgery that I had a few days prior & even work with me on the price. Even though I was a walked in with 5 kittens without an appointment, I feel I waited a reasonable amount of time given the amount of babies I brought in & as busy as they were. I didn’t mind the wait & thought it was worth it— as 5 9 week old kittens are NOT a quick or easy task. Today, I had to walk in again with my bigger girl, they got me in right away, I didn’t wait, but a few minutes. They remembered me from my previous visit. You can tell the techs love their patients & show so much compassion. They are gentle & caring. I do not believe they charged me for anything the kittens didn’t need & we’re kind to me, my dad, & my new (& rambunctious) little family members. Their prices are VERY reasonable, I normally take my cats to another trusted vet, but The Vet Doctor has been such a big help to me & my babes, they will continue to get business from me. 10 stars if I could.

Welcome to Pet Doctor
Pet Doctor, operating as a "Pet Hospital" in Surfside Beach, SC, provides veterinary care for pets in the local community. Located at 2321 Dick Pond Rd, Surfside Beach, SC 29575, USA, the clinic can be reached at (843) 650-1555 or via mobile at +1 843-650-1555. As a pet hospital, they aim to offer a variety of services to meet the health needs of companion animals.
The **environment** at Pet Doctor can be characterized by a balance of efficiency and a welcoming atmosphere, as suggested by varied customer experiences. While the facility itself isn't described in detail, the positive review highlights the staff's ability to manage busy periods, even accommodating walk-ins with multiple animals. The sentiment of staff remembering previous clients and showing kindness and patience, even with "rambunctious" new family members, points towards a personalized and understanding environment. This suggests a clinic that strives to make pet owners feel acknowledged and supported, even during potentially stressful visits. The general impression is of a place where the staff genuinely enjoys their work and shows care towards the animals.
Regarding **services**, Pet Doctor, as a "Pet Hospital," offers a range of core veterinary services essential for pet wellness and acute care. Based on the customer reviews, these services include, but are not limited to:
- **Wellness Exams:** Routine check-ups for overall pet health.
- **Vaccinations:** As indicated by the mention of a "vaccination visit."
- **Diagnostic Services:** Including "bloodwork," suggesting in-house or outsourced laboratory testing capabilities.
- **Kitten and Puppy Care:** Comprehensive care for young animals, as evidenced by the handling of a litter of kittens, which often involves initial exams, deworming, and vaccination schedules.
- **Treatment for Health Concerns:** Addressing various ailments, as implied by the care given to the sick kitten.
- **Prescription Services:** The clinic dispenses medications, though there are noted concerns regarding external prescription fulfillment.
The provision of care for a "whole litter of kittens" indicates that they are equipped to handle initial comprehensive health assessments for multiple young animals simultaneously, which can be a complex and time-consuming process. The willingness to work with clients on pricing, as mentioned in one review, suggests some flexibility or discussion around costs, which is a significant factor for many pet owners.
The **features** of Pet Doctor are illuminated by contrasting customer experiences. A standout feature, as highlighted by one satisfied client, is the **compassion and gentleness of the veterinary technicians and staff**. The reviewer noted, "You can tell the techs love their patients & show so much compassion. They are gentle & caring." This indicates a high level of empathy and a patient-first approach in handling animals, particularly those that may be anxious or difficult to manage. Another positive feature is their **ability to accommodate urgent or walk-in cases**, even with multiple animals, and their efficiency in getting patients in quickly when necessary. The fact that staff remembered a client from a previous visit speaks to a degree of personalized attention and a strong client-patient relationship, which can be reassuring for pet owners. Furthermore, the first review praises their **"VERY reasonable" prices** and the perception that they "do not believe they charged me for anything the kittens didn’t need," suggesting a focus on essential care without unnecessary costs. This perception of fair pricing and targeted care is a significant positive feature for many pet owners. However, a contrasting review suggests that for some, the pricing structure, particularly concerning prescription fulfillment and itemized charges, is perceived as being "the most expensive vet in the area" and that they "charge for absolutely everything," leading to concerns about financial transparency and flexibility regarding external pharmacies.
As for **promotional information**, Pet Doctor's marketing would likely highlight the positive aspects emphasized by satisfied clients, while also needing to address or clarify concerns raised by others. Key promotional messages could include:
- **Compassionate and Caring Staff:** Featuring testimonials that emphasize the kindness and gentleness of their veterinary technicians and doctors.
- **Efficient and Accommodating Service:** Promoting their ability to handle urgent needs and walk-ins, acknowledging that waits may occur but are managed effectively.
- **Dedicated Kitten and Puppy Care:** Highlighting their experience with young litters and comprehensive initial wellness services for new pets.
- **Personalized Patient Care:** Emphasizing their ability to remember clients and pets, fostering a sense of familiarity and trust.
To potentially mitigate the negative feedback regarding pricing and prescriptions, Pet Doctor might consider transparently outlining their fee structure for various services, including prescription handling, on their website or during initial consultations. They could also explore clearer communication about their policy on external pharmacies versus in-house dispensing, or consider options to make external prescription fulfillment more straightforward for clients. Promotional efforts could include community outreach events, online booking options, and perhaps loyalty programs or package deals for multi-pet households or initial kitten/puppy wellness series to emphasize value. Ultimately, Pet Doctor's ability to attract and retain clients will depend on how effectively they communicate their strengths—particularly their compassionate staff and accommodating service—while also addressing areas where client expectations might diverge.

Feb 14, 2025 · Jamie OlivaThis vet is the most expensive vet in the area that I have come in contact with. They charge for absolutely everything, including if you want to pick up a paper prescription so you can fill it for cheaper at a different pet pharmacy. Then come to find out the prescription she wrote for my dog couldn’t be filled anywhere else because of the high dose she wrote, and she was not willing to change the medication and even after I agree to pick it up from their pharmacy, she told me the $12 I paid to pick up the paper script would not be applied to the $130 for the prescription. It seems like they care more about the money than the actual pet. I will not be returning and wish I could get my $550 back for my one vaccination visit with bloodwork.

Nov 01, 2024 · Robbie HinsonI am so grateful, my “scaredy cat” truly feral ish and not a people puss, had an ingrown nail, and they took such good care of my Bella, I’m soo impressed with the attention and kindness too. I highly recommend this business, not about the money, about the care…Bravo 😽
Apr 16, 2025 · Stacey GunnardPrices are high, but overall service was ok. The vet techs were super nice and loving towards my 4 legged baby, the vet .. she was in the room for a total of maybe 3 minutes and not seen again. Overall, a 50$ deposit to make an appointment and another 150$ on the day of for 1 flea pill and 14 days worth of apoquel (I made the appointment for a allergy shot that usually last 3 months) and told I need to come back in 2 weeks. I am positive I won't be returning to this facility.
