Pet Degree was our vet for approximately 5 years and, while Dr Josh is great, the rest of the place is trash. I left a message on Saturday, March 1st asking if they had any openings that day for emergent Euthanasia for my 15 yr old dog. Not only did they not return a call (and yes, they were open til 3pm), but it is now Wednesday, 3/5/25, and I have STILL yet to receive a call back. Instead, my dog crashed overnight and had to be taken to OP vet Sunday morning, 3/2/25, unable to walk or move his head. My dog suffered because they couldn’t be bothered to return a phone call. Not only that, I had to pay $700 for using the emergency vet. And this is not the first time I have complained of this issue. The last time we were there in late summer, my dog was given 2 injections. When I came home, I noticed we were charged for 3. I left them two voicemails which were never returned. As great as Dr Josh is, the rest of the staff is terrible. Do better.

Welcome to PET DEGREE
PET DEGREE, located at 2055 Clinton St, Buffalo, NY 14206, USA, operates as a Pet Hospital serving the local community. They can be contacted at (716) 508-7387 or +1 716-508-7387. As a Pet Hospital, they aim to provide veterinary care for pets in the Buffalo area. However, a review of recent customer feedback reveals significant concerns that potential clients should carefully consider.
Information regarding the specific environment of PET DEGREE is not detailed in the provided reviews. Therefore, an objective description of the clinic's ambiance or facilities cannot be accurately provided based solely on this information. Potential clients may need to seek additional information about the clinic's environment directly from the hospital or other sources.
As a Pet Hospital, PET DEGREE would typically offer a range of veterinary services. These generally include routine check-ups, vaccinations, and preventative care to maintain the health of pets. Diagnostic services, such as laboratory work and imaging, are usually available to help identify medical conditions. Treatment for illnesses and injuries, as well as surgical procedures, are also common offerings at a veterinary hospital. However, the provided reviews raise serious questions about the quality and reliability of some of these services at PET DEGREE.
The customer reviews present a concerning picture of PET DEGREE. While one reviewer noted that "Dr Josh is great," this positive sentiment is overshadowed by significant negative experiences with the rest of the staff and overall service. A critical issue raised is the lack of responsiveness and communication. One pet owner described leaving a message on a Saturday for emergent euthanasia for their 15-year-old dog, only to receive no call back by the following Wednesday. This lack of response allegedly resulted in the dog suffering overnight and requiring emergency veterinary care at another facility, incurring a substantial cost. This reviewer also mentioned a previous incident of being overcharged for injections and having voicemails regarding the discrepancy go unreturned, indicating a pattern of poor communication and potential billing errors.
The second review is even more alarming, detailing the death of a 5-year-old boxer after being treated at PET DEGREE. This pet owner recounted a series of diagnostic and treatment decisions that ultimately led to their dog's death. Initially, "Dr. Josh" suspected cancer based on swollen lymph nodes and prescribed steroids and antibiotics. Despite the owner's skepticism about the cancer diagnosis, a biopsy was eventually performed, which later revealed the dog did not have cancer but likely an infection affecting his immune system. Tragically, after being instructed to stop the steroids and start a stronger antibiotic by "Josh's DAD," who also worked at the practice, the dog died the same night. The reviewer attributes the death to the weakening of the dog's immune system due to the prolonged use of steroids, which they believe masked the underlying infection that could have been treated with antibiotics from the beginning. This account raises serious concerns about the diagnostic process, treatment protocols, and the overall competence at the practice.
Given the severity of the negative feedback, particularly the account of a pet's death allegedly due to mismanagement, providing any positive "promotional information" based solely on these reviews would be irresponsible and misleading. The overwhelming message from these customers is one of dissatisfaction, grief, and a strong warning to others to reconsider taking their pets to PET DEGREE. The one positive mention of Dr. Josh is insufficient to outweigh the serious allegations of negligence, poor communication, and detrimental treatment outcomes.
For local users in Buffalo, NY, seeking a Pet Hospital for their animals, the available reviews for PET DEGREE should be viewed with extreme caution. While one individual had a positive opinion of Dr. Josh, the other two detailed significant negative experiences, including a failure to respond to an urgent end-of-life situation and a tragic outcome involving the death of a pet following a series of questionable diagnostic and treatment decisions. These accounts raise serious concerns about the reliability of communication, accuracy of diagnosis, and the overall quality of care provided at PET DEGREE. Potential clients are strongly advised to thoroughly research other veterinary options in the Buffalo area and consider these deeply concerning experiences before entrusting the health and well-being of their pets to this facility. It is crucial to choose a Pet Hospital with a consistent record of competent, compassionate, and responsive care.

Mar 11, 2025 · Meghan StynPLEASE please please, think twice before taking your pets here. My dog ended up dead after being treated here. “Dr Josh” is following in his dad’s footsteps of being a veterinarian, and constantly referred to his dad as the “Big man”. His dad has his own practice, but would work at his son’s practice 1-2x a week. My 5 y.o boxer was throwing up multiple times a day, and it was clear we needed to take him in asap, and this was one of the quickest places to get us in. “Dr. Josh” told us his back lymph nodes were swollen, he gave us steroids and an antibiotic to give our boy. He had already told us this was likely cancer. We had a follow up appt within 10days. Throughout the time, my dog had good days and bad days, so it was really unclear on if he was getting better because at times, he did seem to be doing better. At the follow-up appt, he was pushing a cancer diagnosis because my dog’s lymph nodes were still swollen. I questioned him harder on a cancer diagnosis, because I simply did not want to believe that my 5 y.o had cancer, and there had to be other possibilities for diagnosis. He finally agreed to do a biopsy with results to come back in a week+ time. Before results came back, my dog was still having good days and bad days, but ultimately we could tell that he was not getting better, as his bad days were much worse. He was throwing up bile, ALL the time, 15+ times in a full day. We took him in again immediately and Josh put him on a stronger steroid. After about 28 days of the initial appt, Josh’s DAD called us and told us our dog did NOT have cancer, it had to be some sort of infection attacking his immune system, and told us to STOP giving our dog the steroid immediately, and we had to go pick up a stronger antibiotic from them that day. We were so relieved to hear this, we had some answers, and could finally help our boy who had been suffering w/o answers. We got the new medicine, stopped the steroid, and started the medicine that night. My dog had a rough day that day, still vomiting bile. I told my dog that he’s going to feel better soon, and did my best to comfort him before going to bed. My dog died that night. He was laying on my couch the next morning (which was normal), but I thought it was strange he didn’t get up when I did. I went to pet him/check on him, and he was stiff and cold. Come to find out, this was because an incompetent man who we trusted, had weakened my dog’s immune system with steroids, to a point of no return, when all he needed was antibiotics from the beginning. I wish I had known more at the time.
