Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc., located at 104 E Main St, Millheim, PA 16854, USA, functions as a local "Pet Hospital" serving the community of Millheim and the surrounding Penns, Brush, Sugar, and Nittany valleys. The clinic can be reached by phone at (814) 349-5605 or via mobile at +1 814-349-5605. This facility is characterized as a mixed animal practice, meaning it caters to the health needs of both small companion animals and large farm animals, including cattle and horses, as well as some birds and exotics.
The categorization as a "Pet Hospital" indicates that Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc. offers a range of medical, diagnostic, and surgical services for animals. This type of facility typically provides more comprehensive care than a basic veterinary office, aiming to be a central point for various aspects of animal health. Their services are designed to address a broad spectrum of veterinary needs, from routine check-ups to more involved medical conditions.
Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc. describes itself as a "family-owned and operated veterinary practice located in the heart of central Pennsylvania," striving to "deliver high quality veterinary medicine in a friendly relaxed atmosphere." While specific details about the interior design or amenities are not provided in the given information, the clinic's description suggests a focus on creating a welcoming and familiar environment for both pets and their owners. As a mixed animal practice, the clinic likely has facilities adapted for handling both small animals (such as dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, and backyard poultry) within the clinic setting and larger animals through their ambulatory service. Their main clinic is described as "solar powered," indicating a commitment to modern infrastructure and potentially environmental considerations. The clinic's location on Main Street suggests it is an accessible and established part of the Millheim community.
Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc. offers a wide range of services for both small and large animals. Their comprehensive service offerings include:
- General Medicine: Diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses and conditions affecting both small and large animals.
- General and Orthopaedic Surgery: Performing surgical procedures for both companion animals and livestock, including routine operations and more complex orthopaedic interventions.
- Radiology: Utilizing digital radiography (X-rays) for diagnostic imaging to help identify internal issues.

- Ambulatory Services: For large animals, services are primarily provided through their ambulatory service, extending to Penns, Brush, Sugar, and Nittany valleys in central PA, and also reaching areas in Union County (like Lewisburg, Millmont, Vicksburg, Mifflinburg) and Snyder County (including Middleburg, Beavertown, and Beaver Springs). This mobile service is crucial for farm animal care.
- Limited House Calls: Small animal services are typically provided at the clinic, but limited house calls may be available, offering convenience for specific situations.
Their operational hours include Monday to Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM, with additional evening hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 PM to 9 PM, accommodating a range of client schedules. "Off hours" appointments are also available when there are no regular office hours.
A significant feature of Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc. is its identity as a mixed animal practice. This means they possess the expertise and equipment to treat a broad spectrum of animals, distinguishing them from clinics that exclusively focus on small companion pets. Their ability to serve both large farm animals through their ambulatory service and small animals at their Millheim clinic makes them a versatile and essential resource for the agricultural and pet-owning communities in the region.
The clinic also emphasizes its 24-hour emergency care availability. The provision of a veterinarian on call around the clock for emergencies, for both large and small animals, is a critical feature, offering peace of mind to pet owners and farmers facing unexpected health crises with their animals. This level of accessibility is vital in rural areas where immediate specialized care might otherwise be difficult to obtain.
The clinic states their "continuing goal is to deliver high quality veterinary medicine." They are also noted as being "family-owned and operated," which often implies a personalized and community-focused approach to care. They have been operating since July 2003, indicating over two decades of service to the area.
For promotional purposes, Penns Valley Veterinary Clinic, Inc. can highlight several key aspects:
- "Your Local Mixed Animal Experts": Emphasizing their unique ability to care for both small pets and large farm animals, appealing to the diverse needs of the Penns Valley community.
- "24/7 Emergency Care for All Your Animals": Promoting their round-the-clock emergency services as a crucial safety net for pet and livestock owners.

Jan 31, 2025 · Rip PlayI have had many experiences with Dr. Joe. If he doesn't know something he will still act as if he knows better than you even if it kills the animal. He is not a people person. He killed my cat because he didn't know what to do even though I had been through it before with my cat and he shouldn't have died. Then I brought my dying dog to his office (I had been calling all night and talking with his answering service and then I'm the morning I called again and made an appointment for later that day) when I got there the receptionist told me he was done taking dogs the rest of the day. (My dog was dying on his lobby floor and Joe decided that was a good time to leave the office). I called around and found a new vet who saved my dog! I also have horses and have been told by Dr. Joe that he was the one that went to vet school so I don't know what's going on with my own animals even though I had my horse for over 10 years before Joe even met them and I had been treating her that whole time with another vet out of state. Do not trust Dr. Joe with any animal!!!!!!
Nov 18, 2024 · Kurtis RunkleThis clinic is amazing!! I am a review reader and typically won't go somewhere that has less than a 4.6. They got us in right away and had done surgery before our regular vet could even schedule a consult!! Dr Joe is wonderful, our Mojo loves him and is always happy to go back! If our boy loves him and he treats him well that's what really matters!!! Penns valley vet is the kind of clinic that we wish we could find for ourselves very knowledgeable Dr. Who makes you feel like your the only patient he has. He generally cares about your fur babies!
Mar 16, 2023 · Rosa StrubleNice staff and Dr. Joe is great with our 3 dalmatians. We travel an hour to see him and his staff.
Apr 01, 2025 · Harry DillonI’m not sure how or why this place is still in business. They overcharge, staff is unprofessional and the doctor is short-tempered and very disrespectful. There is absolutely no excuse for the doctor to be raising his voice, stomping, and slamming doors!
