The front desk staff is friendly and efficient and the vets are really knowledgeable and compassionate. Dr. Hiltner is fantastic with our very surly old man cat. This is a really nice veterinary office with very sound practices. We have vetted dogs and cats with them and are happy with services for both. We had to switch from a vet we used for over twenty years and we are extremely satisfied all around. We have also used the grooming services here, which have been absolutely outstanding! Highly recommend!

Old Farm Veterinary Hospital Introduce

For local residents in Frederick, Maryland, searching under the category "Pet Hospital," Old Farm Veterinary Hospital, situated at 100 Tuscanney Dr, presents itself as a veterinary care provider offering a range of services for both dogs and cats, including general medical care and grooming. However, customer reviews provide a somewhat contrasting view of the experiences at this hospital, with positive feedback regarding general care and grooming juxtaposed with a serious concern about the handling of small dogs.

One long-term customer offers a comprehensive positive review: "The front desk staff is friendly and efficient and the vets are really knowledgeable and compassionate. Highly recommend!" This testimonial paints a picture of a well-run veterinary practice. The reviewer commends the front desk staff for their friendliness and efficiency, which contributes to a positive initial impression. The veterinarians are described as "really knowledgeable and compassionate," instilling confidence in their medical expertise and caring approach. The specific mention of Dr. Hiltner being "fantastic" with a difficult cat ("very surly old man cat") highlights their ability to handle animals with varying temperaments. The description of the office as "really nice" with "very sound practices" suggests a comfortable and trustworthy environment. The fact that this customer has entrusted the care of both their dogs and cats to Old Farm Veterinary Hospital and is "extremely satisfied all around," especially after switching from a long-term vet, speaks volumes about the quality of care they have received. Furthermore, the "absolutely outstanding" grooming services receive a strong recommendation, indicating a high standard in this area as well.

However, a starkly different experience is shared by another customer: "Be very cautious when taking a small dog to this vet. They are way too rough. The bruises in the photo happened from the vet and vet tech squeezing my 4 pound chihuahua’s neck during her exam. When I brought this up to them, they apologized my dog was bruised when drawing blood. I’m not a doctor, but I’m certain blood is never drawn from the front of the neck. My mother also has a chihuahua and has expressed concern about the roughness from staff at this vet." This review raises a significant concern regarding the handling of small dogs at Old Farm Veterinary Hospital. The allegation of "rough" treatment leading to bruising on a 4-pound chihuahua's neck during an exam is deeply troubling. The reviewer's account of the staff's apology for bruising during a blood draw, which they dispute by stating blood was drawn from the front of the neck (a practice they question), further complicates the issue and suggests a potential lack of transparency or miscommunication. The fact that the reviewer's mother, who also owns a chihuahua, has expressed concern about "roughness from staff at this vet" indicates that this might not be an isolated incident. This feedback serves as a serious caution for potential clients, particularly those with small breed dogs.

Based on these reviews, the environment of Old Farm Veterinary Hospital in Frederick, MD, is described by one reviewer as a "really nice veterinary office," suggesting a comfortable and welcoming setting. However, the second review does not provide details about the physical environment but focuses on the alleged rough handling of small animals, which would create a negative experience regardless of the clinic's aesthetics.

The services offered at Old Farm Veterinary Hospital include general veterinary care for both dogs and cats, as mentioned by the satisfied long-term customer. This likely encompasses routine check-ups, vaccinations, treatment for illnesses and injuries, and potentially surgical procedures. Additionally, they offer grooming services that are described as "absolutely outstanding," indicating a high level of skill and care in this area. The concerning review does not dispute the range of services but raises serious questions about the manner in which some procedures are performed, at least on small dogs.

The features of Old Farm Veterinary Hospital, based on the positive review, include a friendly and efficient front desk staff, knowledgeable and compassionate veterinarians (with Dr. Hiltner specifically praised), and sound veterinary practices. They cater to both canine and feline patients and have successfully retained a customer who switched from a long-term previous vet. Their grooming services are also a notable feature, described as outstanding. However, the negative review highlights a significant concern about the potential for rough handling of small dogs by the veterinary staff, which would be a serious negative feature for owners of such pets.

Currently, there is no information available in these reviews regarding any promotional offers or special programs at Old Farm Veterinary Hospital. Veterinary clinics sometimes offer discounts for new clients, wellness plans for routine care, or seasonal promotions on specific services. However, without any mention of such offers in the provided feedback, an objective introduction cannot include this information. Local users interested in learning about any potential promotions are encouraged to contact the hospital directly.

In conclusion, Old Farm Veterinary Hospital in Frederick, MD, presents a mixed profile based on the available customer reviews. While one long-term customer expresses overall satisfaction with the knowledgeable and compassionate vets, friendly staff, sound practices, and outstanding grooming services for both dogs and cats, another customer raises a serious concern about the alleged rough handling of small dogs during examinations, leading to bruising. This discrepancy suggests a potential inconsistency in the experience depending on the size of the pet or the specific staff member involved. Local pet owners in Frederick, MD, considering Old Farm Veterinary Hospital should weigh these contrasting experiences. Those with cats or larger dogs might find the positive review reassuring, particularly regarding general care and grooming. However, owners of small dogs should be aware of the serious concerns raised in the negative review and may wish to inquire specifically about the clinic's handling protocols for small breeds before entrusting their pets to this practice.

I have been using Old Farm Vet for a year since I moved to Frederick. I have always had a positive experience and recommend them at every opportunity. In that year a lot happened with my dogs, my male English Bulldog got pneumonia and unfortunately, passed away in March. The staff and doctors were amazing at trying to save him all while keeping him comfortable on his final days. My Cavalier King Charles goes in for regular vet appointments and grooming with Amy. He always looks great! Highly recommend their grooming services. Then I recently got an English Bulldog puppy. They helped her with all her puppy visits and vaccines and just performed her spay. Dropping off your puppy for any surgery is hard and they made me feel at ease because I trust their understanding of the brachycephalic breed and the specific requirements for any surgery. Thank you to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Hiltner, Amy, Amber, Elizabeth and the entire staff at Old Farm Vet!

We love Old Farm Veterinary Hospital and let me tell you why: 1) The entire office smells, looks and is very clean. 2) The office staff is friendly, knowledgeable and loving to all pets. 3) The doctors are all knowledgeable, caring, friendly and love their job of taking care of pets. Dr. Wilson did surgery on our puppy and he did an excellent job. Kudos to Dr. Wilson! 4) Their office is conveniently located with six day a week office hours. There is also plenty of parking and never a long wait on the inside. 5) They do boarding for their customers and take excellent care of all their "patrons." 6) This facility is always doing something in the Frederick community to help animals. 7) They are growing and added Dr. Darcey. She is wonderful. It's businesses like this that make Frederick a great place to live. BTW, this office does excellent grooming and awesome nail trims!

I have been taking my dogs here since I moved to Frederick about 9 months ago and the staff here go above and beyond for your furry love bugs! Dr. Wilson helped me make a sound decision for my pups knee issues without bias or judgment. I also board my pups here, and weather it's a day visit or over the weekend, they come out all smiles and tail wags! during extended stays they will even email me updates and pictures of how the pups are doing. Highly recommend!
