My family and I recently had to put down our beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever Duke at 12 years old. We took him to Oakland Hills since his arthritis starting getting bad about 4/5 years ago and we never looked to go elsewhere. Duke dealt with arthritis, seizures, and tumors in his last few years. Every time something new came up, Dr Christy and her staff were always quick to see him and offered multiple solutions and guidance on next steps. When we felt it was time to let Duke go, Dr Christy was empathetic and reassured us that we were making the right decision. She even sent us a sympathy card and note a few days later, which was so incredibly kind. I'd like to think Dr Christy and staff extended Dukes life by a few years, and we will always be grateful for that. Thank you Oakland Hills and Dr Christy!

Welcome to Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital
Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital, located at 121 E Long Lake Rd, Troy, MI 48085, USA, is a Pet Hospital serving the veterinary needs of the local community. They can be reached at (248) 817-2052 or their mobile number +1 248-817-2052. The available customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences, highlighting both compassionate care in certain situations and a deeply negative outcome in another, making it crucial for potential local users to consider these differing perspectives.
Information regarding the specific environment of Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital is not detailed in the provided reviews. However, the positive review praising the responsiveness of Dr. Christy and her staff suggests a clinic that is accessible and attentive to patient needs. The ability to see a pet quickly when new health issues arose implies an efficient and caring practice in terms of scheduling and attention to urgent concerns.
Based on the two contrasting reviews, Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital appears to offer a range of veterinary services, though the experiences and outcomes seem to vary significantly:
- General Medical Care: The positive review indicates that the hospital provided ongoing care for a dog with arthritis, seizures, and tumors over several years, suggesting they handle chronic conditions and various health issues.
- Diagnostic Services: The process of checking a cat for the cause of anemia implies the availability of diagnostic procedures to identify underlying health problems.
- Euthanasia and End-of-Life Care: The deeply appreciative review of Duke's passing highlights Dr. Christy's empathy and the clinic's support during this difficult time, including follow-up with a sympathy card. This suggests a compassionate approach to end-of-life care.
- Treatment of Acute Conditions: The cat brought in for an anemia check-up was described as recovering from an emergency visit elsewhere, indicating that Oakland Hills likely handles follow-up care and potentially other acute conditions.
However, the severely negative review presents a drastically different perspective on the quality and outcome of care, alleging a fatal medical error during a routine visit for an anemic but otherwise stable cat.
The features of Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital, as perceived by the reviewers, offer a mixed assessment:
- Compassionate and Empathetic Staff (in some cases): Dr. Christy and her staff are lauded for their kindness, responsiveness, and empathetic approach, particularly in end-of-life situations. The sympathy card is a testament to their caring nature.
- Experienced in Managing Chronic Conditions (in some cases): The long-term care provided to Duke with multiple health issues suggests experience in managing complex and chronic illnesses.
- Quick Appointment Availability (in some cases): The ability to see a pet promptly when new symptoms arose is mentioned as a positive aspect of their service.
- Potential for Severe Medical Errors (in at least one instance): The detailed negative review alleges a fatal mistake made by a veterinarian (Dr. Laura) during a diagnostic visit for a cat, resulting in the cat's death. This is a critical concern raised by a client.
- Lack of Accountability (alleged): The negative review also mentions the veterinarian not admitting fault or offering an apology after the cat's death, which raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the event of errors.
- High Cost Despite Negative Outcome (alleged): The client who lost their cat reported having to pay $700 despite the alleged error, which adds to the severity of their negative experience.
The provided reviews do not contain any information regarding promotional offers, discounts for new clients, or wellness plans that Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital might offer. It is common for veterinary practices to have such initiatives to attract clients or provide cost-effective care packages. Local users interested in potential promotions should contact the clinic directly to inquire.
In conclusion, Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital in Troy, MI, presents a complex picture based on the limited but highly contrasting customer reviews. On one hand, there is a deeply appreciative account of compassionate and supportive care during a pet's final years, highlighting the kindness and efficiency of Dr. Christy and her team. This suggests a caring practice capable of providing long-term management of chronic conditions and empathetic end-of-life support. On the other hand, there is a devastating review alleging a fatal medical error during a diagnostic visit, coupled with a perceived lack of accountability and high cost despite the tragic outcome. This review raises significant concerns about the potential for serious errors and the clinic's handling of such situations.
Given these drastically different experiences, local users considering Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital should approach with caution and consider both perspectives. The positive review indicates the potential for compassionate and responsive care, while the negative review serves as a stark warning about potential risks. It would be prudent for prospective clients to seek further information, perhaps by speaking directly with the hospital about their protocols, staff qualifications, and how they handle critical situations. Ultimately, the decision of whether to entrust their pet's care to Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital will require local users to weigh these conflicting accounts and their own risk tolerance carefully.
