My cat was hospitalized and unfortunately had to be put down. The entire staff was so nice, and professional. The Vet tech even picked out a special blanket for her that matched with her name. These little things show how you are a part of their family not just a transaction. I have been going to the for over 20 years and have always had a great experience. You do wait, and I accept that. I always schedule after I'm done for the day or plan on not going back to work after the appointment. If you want a quick exam, and a vaccine for your pet on your lunch break, this is not the place. Here you get a thorough exam, there is no rushing here. Price is average and is worth it. I just can't say enough positive things. Thank you to all the Doctors, and staff. Kawaii is looking down smiling on you.

Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services designed to address the full spectrum of a pet's health needs throughout their life. Their focus on thoroughness ensures that each pet receives detailed attention. Common services expected from a facility of this caliber include:
- Comprehensive Wellness and Preventive Care: This is a cornerstone of their practice, encompassing routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols, parasite prevention and control (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and nutritional counseling to maintain optimal health and prevent disease. The emphasis on "thorough exam" suggests a detailed approach to these routine visits.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries, the hospital likely employs various diagnostic tools. These would typically include in-house laboratory testing for bloodwork, urinalysis, and other screenings, as well as radiography (X-rays) for detailed internal imaging.
- Internal Medicine: For pets suffering from complex or chronic internal conditions, the hospital provides diagnostic workups and treatment plans for various organ systems.
- Surgical Services: As a full-service pet hospital, they would offer a range of surgical procedures, including routine spaying and neutering, as well as various soft tissue surgeries necessary to address specific medical conditions.
- Dental Care: Recognizing the critical link between oral health and overall well-being, the hospital would provide professional dental cleanings, extractions, and other dental procedures to prevent and treat periodontal disease.
- Pain Management: Given the compassionate approach, it is highly probable that they offer effective pain management strategies for pets recovering from surgery, injury, or suffering from chronic conditions.
- Senior Pet Care: For aging pets, they would provide specialized care to address age-related conditions, manage chronic diseases, and maintain quality of life.
- Emergency and Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency facility, they are equipped to handle urgent cases during their operating hours. The willingness to "give additional time" during care also extends to unforeseen circumstances that might arise during an appointment. For after-hours emergencies, they would typically provide referrals to dedicated emergency veterinary clinics.
- Follow-up and Communication: A notable service, as highlighted by a customer, is their commitment to "phone calls with followup information," ensuring continuity of care and keeping pet owners informed.
Several key features distinguish Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital and contribute to its enduring loyalty among clients for "at least 20 years, if not longer":
- Unwavering Compassion and Personalization: This is perhaps the most significant feature. Clients consistently speak of the staff's genuine care, describing them as "so nice, and professional," and treating pets "as part of their family, not just a transaction." The anecdote of the vet tech picking a special blanket illustrates this deep level of empathy and personalized attention.
- Thorough and Unhurried Examinations: Unlike clinics focused on quick turnarounds, Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital prioritizes "thorough exam" and takes "time with our dogs," ensuring that no detail is overlooked in diagnosing and treating pets. Clients are willing to accept potential wait times because they understand this commitment to quality over speed.
- Consistent Long-Term Care: The numerous reviews from clients who have been going there for "over 20 years" and "at least 20 years" speak volumes about the consistent quality of care and trust they have built within the community.
- Dedicated and Knowledgeable Staff: Clients praise "all the Doctors, and staff" for their expertise and helpfulness. Dr. Bill is specifically highlighted for his wonderful demeanor and ability to explain things clearly. This suggests a highly competent and communicative team.
- Strong Follow-Up Communication: The practice of providing "phone calls with followup information" demonstrates a commitment to continuity of care and client education, ensuring pet owners are always in the loop regarding their pet's health.
- Value for Cost: While acknowledged as "a little expensive," clients universally agree that the "price is average and is worth it" because "you get what you pay for." This indicates that the quality of care justifies the cost in the eyes of their clientele.
Regarding promotional information, Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital's primary "promotion" appears to be its deeply rooted reputation for exceptional care and personalized service, cultivated over decades. While specific discount programs or limited-time offers are not widely advertised, their approach emphasizes the intrinsic value of their care:
- Word-of-Mouth Referrals: The overwhelmingly positive and long-term customer testimonials act as the most powerful form of promotion. Satisfied clients highly recommend the hospital, leading to organic growth and a strong community presence.
- Commitment to Patient-Centric Care: By prioritizing thoroughness and individualized attention over speed, they implicitly promote a higher standard of care, appealing to pet owners who value comprehensive health management.
- Transparency in Pricing (Value Proposition): While not explicitly "low cost," the consistent message that the "price is average and is worth it" effectively promotes the value proposition, reassuring clients that their investment translates into superior care.
- Building Long-Term Relationships: Their focus on personalized care, consistent staff, and excellent follow-up fosters strong, long-term relationships with clients, leading to high retention rates and loyal patronage. This long-term relationship itself is a powerful promotional asset.
- Acceptance of Pet Insurance: Like most reputable veterinary hospitals, Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital would work with various pet insurance providers. This allows pet owners to offset the financial burden of unexpected veterinary bills, making quality care more accessible without direct financial pressure on the hospital. Pet owners are generally encouraged to secure insurance for their pets while they are healthy to avoid issues with pre-existing conditions.
- Treatment Financing Options: For significant veterinary expenses, it is common for animal hospitals to collaborate with third-party financing solutions such as CareCredit. While not explicitly stated, this is a standard practice that helps clients manage costs by allowing them to make payments over time.
In conclusion, Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital in Monroeville, PA, is a highly respected "Pet Hospital" distinguished by its profound commitment to compassionate, thorough, and personalized veterinary care. With over two decades of service, the hospital has cultivated an environment where pets are treated as family members, and their owners receive comprehensive explanations and consistent follow-up. The long-term loyalty of their clientele, who appreciate the unhurried approach and the expertise of veterinarians like Dr. Bill, speaks volumes about the quality of care. While their pricing is perceived as fair rather than discounted, the exceptional value derived from their dedicated staff, comprehensive services, and commitment to long-term pet well-being makes Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital a highly recommended choice for pet owners seeking a truly caring and effective veterinary partner.

May 21, 2025 · Kori NWe have been going to Northern Pike for at least 20 years, if not longer. They have always been wonderful with our dogs. They are a little expensive but you get what you pay for. Dr. Bill is wonderful. Always takes time with our dogs and explains things to us. We always get phone calls with followup information. Our dogs and we all love him. We know that there maybe a wait at times but also know that if we need additional time with our dog being taken care of, it is given to us. They are great!
Feb 21, 2025 · Mary Lou JordanHonestly hate to give this review but don’t want other exotic pets to be misdiagnosed. I brought my ferret in about a year ago for hair loss and itchiness in hopes to get treated. After a physical exam it was concluded that my ferret had adrenal disease, with likely not much time left. I asked what testing was done and no lab work imaging was performed to confirm. In addition there was no treatment options available at the clinic. From previous experience with a ferret with adrenal, I knew it could be treated with lupron and or an implant to assist with the hormone management. At the end of the day I really did not think my boy had adrenal as his hair loss was not consistent with the disease. I brought him to dr.wagner out of north Boro, and it was quickly confirmed from a skin cell scrape he had a bacterial skin infection. He was treated with medicated baths once a week for 3 weeks, and it healed completely. It concerns me greatly that a near terminal disease was diagnosed with minimal testing, even before anything other infections / parasites could have been ruled out. I would not recommend bringing an exotic, or ferret here.
Nov 22, 2022 · Briana KimbleHad an incident on Sunday called Monday morning and they worked my Honey into the schedule. Dr Judy was very nice and explained everything to me. They gave a great description on why they didn't do a procedure to remove her nail. The techs were awesome in handling Honey.
Mar 20, 2023 · John-paul AdamsWhen I initially started going to Northern Pike, I thought they were pretty decent. A little over-priced, but they seemed to care. However, in the past year trying to get an appointment with them is a 50/50 shot, as you may be in the parking lot waiting for hours after your scheduled appointment. But the worst part is their refusal to give me vet records without the vet reviewing my records. It took me two months to get records and the only reason I got them was because I went in person and refused to leave without them. LEGALLY, in the state of PA, they must send records within 3 days of a written request. I’ve reported them to the PA board. I also ran into another issue with several pet insurance claims being closed because they couldn’t get additional records or information from the vet. I’ve switched vets now, and I recommend doing the same if you’re currently with them having the same issues because it doesn’t get better.
