I thought they were good but after 1 visit and not getting copies that my previous vet sent that I need for boarding as my previous vet is on medical leave. It took me 3 to 4 visits to get the 13 pages that were sent and confirmed. First, they weren't ready when they said they would be, then they only had one page, I went back again and they said they didn't have anything, then I called the Vet Tech at my old place and she said it was sent so I went straight back to Neighborhood Vet and they looked again and came back with 6 pages. Susan had to fax them again and due to them not calling the old vet place seeing a confirmation with the number of pages, I had to cancel and reschedule my checking out the boarding facility. Also, you can't be in the exam room with your fur baby. Horrible and I would not recommend

Neighborhood Animal Hospital Introduce
**Neighborhood Animal Hospital**, located at **4765 Skyline Rd S, Salem, OR 97306, USA**, aims to provide veterinary care to the local community of Salem, Oregon. While the name suggests a local and accessible service, an objective review of available information, including customer feedback, offers a more nuanced picture of their operations and client experience. You can reach them by phone at **(503) 362-5233** or **+1 503-362-5233** for inquiries.
The physical environment of Neighborhood Animal Hospital, based on client reviews, presents certain operational aspects. A significant point raised by customers is the policy of **not allowing owners to be in the exam room with their pets**. This is a departure from many veterinary practices and can be a point of discomfort or concern for pet owners who prefer to be present during examinations and treatments. While some clinics adopted this policy more widely during pandemic times for safety, it's important for prospective clients to be aware if this is a standard practice at Neighborhood Animal Hospital. The facility would, by standard practice, include examination rooms and areas for basic diagnostics and possibly minor procedures, but the customer feedback doesn't detail specific advanced equipment or specialized areas beyond the general scope of a local animal hospital. The reviews also indirectly suggest a reliance on traditional communication methods, as one client mentioned the apparent lack of internet service in the office, which could impact digital record keeping and communication efficiency.
As a "Pet Hospital," Neighborhood Animal Hospital would typically offer a range of general veterinary services essential for the health and well-being of companion animals. While specific details on their full suite of services are not comprehensively provided in the given information, a standard animal hospital usually provides:
- **General Wellness and Preventative Care:** This commonly includes routine physical examinations, vaccinations (e.g., rabies, distemper/parvo for dogs; FVRCP, rabies for cats), parasite control, and general health check-ups.
- **Diagnostic Services:** Basic diagnostics such as in-house blood work (e.g., for general health panels), urinalysis, and potentially some basic imaging like X-rays to help diagnose common ailments.
- **Management of Illness and Injury:** Addressing common pet illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic conditions.
- **Prescription Medications and Dietary Advice:** Providing necessary medications and offering guidance on pet nutrition.
One review mentions the need for lab work to be sent to an oncologist for a dog with Multiple Myeloma, indicating that while they may manage primary care, they also facilitate referrals to specialists for complex conditions. However, the communication challenges in sending these records, as noted by the client, suggest potential areas for improvement in their administrative and information transfer processes.
The distinguishing features of Neighborhood Animal Hospital, particularly from the perspective of customer experiences, include both strengths and areas that have caused concern. **Dr. Helwick** is mentioned as a long-standing vet for one client's dog since puppyhood, suggesting a history of consistent care and a level of trust built over time. This indicates a dedicated professional at the core of the practice.
However, significant concerns have been raised regarding client communication and administrative efficiency. The repeated difficulty in obtaining complete medical records, requiring multiple visits and follow-ups, points to a notable challenge in record management and client service. This can lead to frustration and logistical issues for pet owners, especially when records are needed for other critical services like boarding or specialist consultations. The lack of internet service, as mentioned by a client, if accurate, would be a significant drawback in modern veterinary practice, impacting the speed and reliability of sharing information with other veterinary professionals. Furthermore, the policy of **not allowing owners in the exam room** is a contentious point for many pet owners, who feel it hinders their ability to comfort their pet and directly communicate with the veterinarian during the examination. For some, this policy creates a sense of separation and distrust, impacting the overall client experience. While Dr. Helwick was historically seen as doing a "pretty good job," the recent "disappointing" service, particularly concerning communication and record sharing, highlights areas where the clinic may be facing operational challenges affecting client satisfaction.
Based on the provided information, direct promotional messaging or specific offers from Neighborhood Animal Hospital are not detailed. Their primary mode of attracting clients would likely be through their local presence and the long-standing relationships established by veterinarians like Dr. Helwick. However, the critical feedback from real customers is a significant factor that prospective clients would consider.
For individuals considering Neighborhood Animal Hospital, it would be advisable to directly inquire about their policies regarding owner presence during examinations, their current systems for record keeping and sharing, and their communication protocols. Given the feedback on challenges with phone responsiveness, utilizing their phone numbers for initial inquiries might be a starting point. While the hospital aims to serve the local community, the experiences shared by customers suggest that a thorough discussion of client expectations versus clinic practices is prudent before committing to long-term care, especially for pets with complex or ongoing medical needs where seamless communication and record access are paramount.

Oct 24, 2024 · BarbaraBrandi has Multiple Myeloma. Dr. Helwick has been her vet since she was a puppy. But lately the service has been disappointing. It seems I rarely get to speak to Dr. Helwick rather the office staff, they don't return calls, and fail to send lab work as requested to Brandi Oncologist. I did not know till recently, they do not have internet service in the office, really? Brandi is not doing well, so no time to switch vets. It is unfortunate, Dr Helwick seemed to always do a pretty good job until lately, and it really bothers me I can't be with Brandi behind closed doors.
Feb 14, 2023 · Glen KilgoreDr. Helwig and her staff were so very kind when it came time to say goodbye to our sweet Silas kitty. The doctor and staff are knowledgeable and really care about the pets. They treat them like they are their own.
Jan 08, 2024 · B BahrProbably over a decade ago now, but still crosses my mind often... Our cat had been hit and was fairly injured.. dislocated hind legs and such. Not only did they take her in without taking payment beforehand, but they let us do a payment plan for the entire bill. It totaled a little over $2000, and we paid it off according to the agreement. They also helped another pet of ours, a doggo, when she kept having skin problems... Causing her to constantly "dig" at her back area.. in turn causing her to have sores. We assumed it was fleas, but they said it was the food she was eating. They, again, allowed us to use a payment plan. It helped so much! Putting out such a large sum of money without being prepared for it will cause major challenges... So this veterinary clinic not only helped our animals, but also us by handling it the way the did. We're still very grateful for their kindness!
Feb 08, 2023 · Jessica ReiterWhat a great job they did, first, to keep us all safe with curbside pickup and delivery. The vet came out to my parked car to discuss her findings and recommendations. She had a comprehensive plan for treatment and follow up! I was very impressed.
