Pets, like "Buddy," who "loves Dr. Schaaf and all the staff," and even enjoys "the cookies," reflect a clinic where animals feel comfortable and receive affectionate attention. This positive interaction is crucial for reducing stress during veterinary visits. For pet owners, the experience is equally positive, with staff consistently noted as "kind and considerate," truly caring "about pets and their owners too." This suggests a welcoming and supportive environment where clients feel their concerns are heard and their emotional needs are acknowledged. The seamless operation, both "up front and behind the scenes," further contributes to an efficient yet compassionate atmosphere, ensuring that every visit is as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
Needham Animal Hospital provides a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, positioning itself as a full-service "Pet Hospital" capable of addressing a wide range of medical needs for companion animals. Their offerings span from preventive care to advanced diagnostics and complex surgical procedures. Based on the customer reviews and the typical services of a well-regarded animal hospital, their offerings likely include:
General Wellness and Preventive Care: This is the foundation of their practice. Services include routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations (for dogs and cats, covering core and non-core diseases), comprehensive parasite prevention (heartworm, fleas, ticks, intestinal worms), and personalized nutritional counseling. Their care for "cat Hope and her many ailments as she ages" indicates a strong focus on long-term and senior pet wellness.
Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose various conditions, Needham Animal Hospital would utilize modern diagnostic tools. This typically includes in-house laboratory capabilities for rapid blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis, essential for detecting infections, organ dysfunction, and other health issues. They would also likely offer advanced imaging services such as digital radiography (X-rays) and potentially ultrasonography to visualize internal organs and structures for more precise diagnoses of illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions.
Dental Care: Recognizing the critical importance of oral health, Needham Animal Hospital would undoubtedly offer professional dental cleanings (often under anesthesia), dental X-rays to assess sub-gumline health, and extractions as needed to address periodontal disease and other oral pathologies, thereby improving a pet's overall health and comfort.
Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery: The explicit mention of a "knee surgery on our dog Lucky" highlights their capability in orthopedic procedures, which are often complex. Beyond orthopedics, as a full-service hospital, they would also perform a variety of soft tissue surgeries such as spaying, neutering, mass removals, and other common operations. All surgical procedures would typically be supported by pre-surgical evaluations, comprehensive anesthetic monitoring, and post-operative pain management to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of various internal diseases affecting organ systems such as the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, endocrine system (e.g., diabetes), and urinary system, often requiring long-term care plans.
Geriatric Pet Care: The exceptional care provided to "cat Hope and her many ailments as she ages" underscores their dedication to geriatric medicine. This involves specialized attention to the unique needs of senior animals, including managing age-related conditions, pain control, and maintaining quality of life.
Pain Management: Providing effective strategies for managing acute and chronic pain, whether from injury, illness, post-surgical recovery, or age-related conditions like arthritis.
Client Education: A practice that receives such high praise for its staff and care would naturally engage in educating pet owners about their pet's health, treatment options, and preventive strategies, fostering informed decision-making.

The sentiment that Needham has "quickly become our favorite vet we have ever used" is a powerful testament to their superior service and the positive impact they have on both pets and their owners.

Apr 10, 2025 · BuddyDr. Gentile and all of his associates are kind, thorough , and very knowledgeable about a multitude of diagnoses. Our Tallulah scared us due to vomiting. She’s 6.8 and I knew very susceptible to dehydration. Dr. Gentile checked her, made a plan of care at the office and then one for us to follow at home. He also described what to do if she didn’t improve.A representative from the office also called the next day to check on her. My husband and I left the office feeling calm and assured of the great care Tallulah received. The Needham staff truly care about and love animals.
Mar 21, 2025 · Sue JoyceI have been taking my fur baby Jasper, “Jassie “, to Needham Animal Hospital for 14 years. Jasper is a RatTerrier, but with chihuahua legs! She is my “ barrel” dog as she is known at Needham! I have always been informed on Jassie’s condition, and costs for care. Needham has a staff of Doctors, Assistants, Receptionists who are there for their love of animals and their “parents”!
Jan 15, 2025 · Krista AndersonKeevah had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Rowe. She is typically very nervous and with her age, she can be a little snippy. She didn't have any issues, she liked him immediately. Dr. Rowe was very informative, providing education, and he is down to earth, spending the time with her that we needed. He is by far one of the bests Vets. that we have ever had! Would highly recommend. Courtney was her tech and Keevah did very well with her as well. Courtney communicated well and helped ensure the information for Keevah was correct.
