I lost my poor cat Patty. The staff was there until the end. I had him for 10 years and I just moved here. They saw him a few time before he passed but they treated him in his last moments like they were working with him for the last 10 yrs. So thankful for them. After he died I received a card all signed by the staff. The best vet I’ve been to.

Welcome to Mt. Scott Animal Clinic

Welcome to Mt. Scott Animal Clinic, your local Pet Hospital situated at 8401 SE Ellis St, Portland, OR 97266, USA. At Mt. Scott Animal Clinic, we aim to provide veterinary care for your pets. Based on customer feedback, experiences appear to vary.

One recent customer shared a deeply emotional experience, highlighting the exceptional compassion and support the staff provided during the loss of their cat. They expressed immense gratitude for the way their pet was treated in his final moments, despite being a relatively new patient. The thoughtful gesture of a signed card from the staff further emphasized their caring nature and left a lasting positive impression.

In contrast, a former long-term customer described a less positive experience with one of the veterinarians. Their review mentioned a friendly front desk and generally helpful technicians but noted instances of condescending and rude behavior from the vet. This included criticism regarding pet food choices and pressure to pursue specific treatments, leading to feelings of discomfort and financial concern. The reviewer also mentioned long wait times and a lack of communication regarding the veterinarian's availability, ultimately leading them to seek care elsewhere.

The provided information offers contrasting perspectives on Mt. Scott Animal Clinic. I used to take my dog there for years, but had to leave about six months ago. The front desk was friendly and generally so were the techs, but the vet was always so condescending and rude. She would chastise me for the type of food I was feeding, trying to force me to get monthly injections and made me feel terrible when I said there was a financial barrier with doing that. I waited forever for her to come in with each visit and since I lived close and would walk that meant standing outside with no way of knowing how long she would take. I finally left because of how bad she made me feel each visit

We needed a USDA Certified Vet to acquire the proper appointments and documents to move to Portugal. The staff at Mt. Scott Animal Clinic were quick to respond, schedule an appointment and research what we needed. The documents were time sensitive and they were very good at advising us and assuring that everything was sent and received on time. Communication was stellar and in addition they were professional and personable. We would highly recommend them!

My partner and I have been bringing our precious pets to MSAC for at least 5 years now. All the vets really take their time with you, and I feel they give you a comprehensive understanding of your pet based on their whole file. All the techs are super kind and have plenty of tricks to help manage your nervous pet during exams. They always have a variety of treats for the picky ones. The rare time there has been a mistake, it was quickly remedied by the team. They have also aided us through the loss of one of our pets - everyone’s approach, sensitivity, and level of empathy was really touching. The costs for service are very reasonable and worthwhile. As long as we live in Portland, we will continue using MSAC. Shout out to Dr. Eddy who is one of the most knowledgeable vets I have met in the three states I have lived in my over 20ish years of pet ownership!

This clinic was really a bad experience for me. They were very nice to my golden retriever puppy, but from the start there were some weird things. I told them my breeder had recommended the dogs not be put on the floor in the clinic until fully vaccinated, and they nodded but then immediately put her on the scale - which is where every single dog goes. We were only there for a "happy visit" so there was no reason to weigh her at that visit. Immediate dismissal of my concerns. When I had my actual appointment, I waited for a full hour before the doctor actually saw us. My appointment was at 2:30; the doctor walked in at 3:35. There was absolutely nothing in the treatment room for a dog to do with that time - no water, no toys, nothing. Just a full hour of boredom. When the doctor arrived she brought a couple toys, so like: why wouldn't they give them something to do during the wait? My puppy also found something on the floor she wanted to lick, so I don't think the room was cleaned thoroughly between pets. When the doctor finally arrived I didn't feel like she checked everything. She didn't take my puppy's temperature, she didn't check her heart with a stethescope, she didn't even look at the sore patch where we'd had a flea problem when I told her about it. She went rapid fire through all the treatments she recommended I pay for and was really aggressive, I felt, about her opinions. I mentioned something my breeder recommended and she sort of scoffed and seemed to have a poor opinion of breeders in general. She phrased all her "questions" as statements, as in "you don't have her parents' hip records?" Which I did, my breeder was extremely thorough, but nothing I said seemed to budge her from the idea that my breeder probably had filthy kennels and didn't do a "real" vet visit (she did not and she did). She also asked about my pet insurance and when I didn't know the annual max off the top of my head, I guessed it was $5,000 and she responded with a flat "not enough." Jeez, okay? Like, it's fine to tell me I probably want a higher max because treatments can be more expensive than that, but it was such an aggressive way to say it. And the same happened when I said I was planning to do this kind of training or to not use a crate in these situations - just a flat "that won't work." Just really aggressive about her opinions and no leeway at all for like, maybe it would work under these circumstances, or I wouldn't recommend it for these reasons. Just no. Won't work. No way to make it work. No information for more context, no recommendations for resources to look up before I make a decision. Just no. They also trimmed her nails without asking me. I would have said yes, and I appreciated the free trim, but why wouldn't you ask me before you do something to my dog? My puppy was constantly taken into another room where I wasn't allowed to go, and no one explained what they were going to do with her while she was gone, or how long she'd be gone, or anything. We got her microchipped and they told me I'd get an email from HomeAway. I didn't get that email and tried to set up online, and had to call the number. Turns out my email was put in with three separate errors, as well as my zip code AND my name. This also happened when I made the appointment. My name is Astrid, someone entered it as "Astrad". I spelled it for them over the phone, it's not like they had to guess the spelling! It doesn't give me confidence that they're able to keep track of details that matter. I can say that all the treatments we received were given, I think, quite competently. I think they did a good job giving her vaccines in a non-scary way. They microchipped her and tested that the scan worked. My puppy is very cute and did the rounds meeting everyone and got cooed over. They clearly do love the dogs. But as a human being, I felt like no one cared about my concerns or boundaries or informing me. I'm sorry this vet won't work out, as it's very close to my house, but I do not want to go through another experience like that if I can help it.
