This office repeatedly takes weeks to approve prescribed food orders through Amazon. My dog had surgery and requires a special joint health food. Each time I purchase off Amazon the vet has to approve it. If vet doesn’t approve within 3-5 days the order gets cancelled and whole process starts again. Every 3 months I have to order food it takes a month and 3-4 cancelled orders for the vet to finally click approve. This small pain point which seems like an easy fix makes me never want to deal with this office again because it consumes 1-2 hours of my time playing phone tag just to get someone to do a task that takes 1 second.

We scheduled an appointment to check on our cat who wasn’t eating, but before we showed up we realized it would be best to put her down because of how sick she was. As soon as we explained this, the technician (I think that was her role - apologies, I didn’t get her name) understood, and Dr. Lauderdale was so helpful in giving us all our options and explaining the process. Not only was she professional and thorough, but she was so compassionate. She gave us the space and time we needed, and also comforted us, showing us that she really cared. It was so hard of course to say goodbye to our pet, but we felt so supported by the staff at Mt Airy Animal Hospital.

The pluses include the availability of a parking lot, good hours, variety of services, quality of care, convenience, and cleanliness. Those are important. However, the warmth of the front office staff is uneven. Some are welcoming and others are not. The vet tech introduced himself to me and was informational and interactive, but the vet didn't introduce herself to me. I guess I was expected to read her name and title from her scrubs which I did. Seemed a bit off putting since this was my first time there. Regardless, I scheduled spay and microchipping for my rescue cat. Just received an estimate for the surgery but the invoice didn't reflect my $100 deposit. Not sure I'll stay with them over the long term because this is a young cat and this practice is very pricey.

Responsive, relatively affordable, and accommodating with appointment times. The only reason for 4 stars is that we’ve had a different vet every visit and I have a slight preference for developing a relationship with the people treating my dog.

I really tried with this vet practice but too many times I’ve felt like I had to really push to get things moving for my dogs. Whether that’s getting answers to an issue or wanting to investigate something a bit more. My latest issue was scheduling an ultrasound for my dog almost a month ago that I had to really push for after noticing a lump. There was a mix up with the automated text that told me the appointment would be at the Andorra location when it was actually at the Mt. Airy office - understandable. However the issue that I now have is that because the vet only does ultrasounds every other Sunday, I now have to wait 2 weeks before my dog can receive an ultrasound for something that could become an emergency. Didn’t even receive a call back after notifying the vet so that we can reschedule and it took me to make that initiative. Not to mention the lack of X-rays if your dog needs one. Nice staff overall but when it comes to my dogs I don’t play around and too many times I just didn’t feel like I’m getting the quality service that I’m paying for. Not a horrible practice at all but I simply care too much for my dogs to keep them there.
