I took my cat Luna here about a year ago because she needed emergency surgery for pyometra after being quoted $12,000 by the emergency vet. They squeezed my baby in and saved her for me. I can鈥檛 put into words how grateful i am between staffs compassion to the pricing on how good my experience was. I was shown an estimate with a low-end and high-end range (I believe the high end was $3,500, I may be wrong) depending on my cats needs while she recovers. I didn鈥檛 end up paying anywhere near the high end of my estimate, even with Luna having to stay 2 nights for observation & recovery. The woman who owns this place did the surgery, she has a special place in my heart 馃槶 I cannot express my thankfulness, just.. Thank youuuuu so much 馃檹馃徎 I鈥檝e had luna since she was a kitten along with one of her siblings from the same litter. I鈥檓 so glad I took her here.

Welcome to Mattydale Animal Hospital
Mattydale Animal Hospital, located at 2703 Brewerton Rd, Syracuse, NY 13211, USA, functions as a "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing veterinary care to the local community. The hospital can be reached via phone at (315) 455-5915 or mobile at +1 315-455-5915, making it accessible for inquiries and appointments related to various pet health needs. As a category of "Pet Hospital," Mattydale Animal Hospital aims to offer a range of services and goods related to animal health and well-being.
Customer experiences with Mattydale Animal Hospital appear to be varied, presenting a nuanced picture of their services. One deeply grateful customer recounts a life-saving emergency surgery for their cat, Luna, praising the staff's compassion and the significantly lower cost compared to an emergency vet. This positive experience highlights the hospital's capacity for critical care and financial flexibility in certain situations. Conversely, another customer expresses significant dissatisfaction regarding the pricing and communication surrounding a neutering procedure for their rescued dog, leading to concerns about affordability and perceived rudeness from staff. This contrasting feedback underscores the importance of clear communication and financial transparency in veterinary care.
The environment and atmosphere at Mattydale Animal Hospital appear to be perceived differently depending on the nature of the visit and individual interactions. In the context of a critical emergency, the hospital was able to "squeeze in" a pet for surgery, suggesting a responsive and accommodating approach when dealing with urgent cases. The gratitude expressed for the "staff's compassion" during a highly stressful time indicates that, at least for some, the environment fostered a sense of relief and support. The facility was capable of providing post-operative observation and recovery, implying adequate space and resources for animal care. The presence of the "woman who owns this place" personally performing surgery speaks to a hands-on approach by leadership, which can contribute to a sense of dedicated care.
However, the negative review paints a less favorable picture of the day-to-day interactions and pricing discussions. Allegations of staff being "rude as hell" and a general perception of being "overpriced" and taken advantage of suggest an atmosphere that, for some clients, lacks the necessary empathy and clear communication. The inability of a desk staff member to adequately explain an unexpected cost increase and the refusal of a payment arrangement, despite past precedents, contribute to a feeling of frustration and distrust. This contrasting feedback suggests that while the clinical capabilities might be strong, consistent client communication and customer service delivery may vary, impacting the overall atmosphere experienced by pet owners.
As a "Pet Hospital," Mattydale Animal Hospital provides a range of veterinary services designed to address the health and well-being of companion animals. Based on the provided reviews, specific services highlighted include:
- Emergency Surgery: A key service demonstrated by the successful emergency pyometra surgery for Luna, indicating their capability to handle critical surgical interventions promptly. This suggests they possess the necessary equipment and surgical expertise for urgent medical conditions.
- General Surgery/Procedures: The neutering procedure for the rescued dog indicates that routine surgical procedures are offered. This is a common service for pet hospitals, essential for population control and preventing certain health issues.
- Post-operative Care and Observation: Luna's two-night stay for observation and recovery confirms that the hospital provides inpatient care for animals needing monitoring after procedures.
- Medication and Prescriptions: The mention of "nausea medicine" and "prescriptions" implies that the hospital dispenses necessary medications for treatment and recovery.
- Diagnostic Capabilities: While not explicitly detailed, performing emergency surgery and providing post-operative care inherently requires diagnostic capabilities such as imaging and laboratory tests to accurately assess a pet's condition and monitor recovery.
It's important to note that typical "Pet Hospitals" also offer a broader spectrum of services, which would likely include routine wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, parasite prevention, and potentially specialized medical consultations. However, the provided information only directly confirms the surgical and post-operative care aspects.
One of the most significant strengths of Mattydale Animal Hospital, as highlighted by a positive review, is their apparent capability to handle emergency surgical procedures effectively and, at times, with a more affordable cost structure compared to dedicated emergency veterinary clinics. The fact that they "squeezed in" an emergency surgery for pyometra and saved Luna's life, with an estimated cost significantly lower than a specialized emergency vet, is a powerful testament to their clinical competency and willingness to assist in critical situations. The owner performing the surgery suggests a high level of personal commitment and expertise. This particular experience showcases their ability to provide life-saving care when other options might be cost-prohibitive or unavailable.
Another potential strength, though inconsistently applied, is their past willingness to set up payment arrangements. This flexibility, if consistently offered, could be a crucial feature for pet owners facing unexpected veterinary bills. However, the negative review clearly indicates that this policy might not always be applied or communicated effectively, leading to client dissatisfaction. The compassion shown by staff in certain critical situations also stands out as a strong positive feature, underscoring the empathy that many pet owners seek in veterinary care providers.
The hospital's location at 2703 Brewerton Rd, Syracuse, NY 13211, USA, makes it a local option for residents in the Mattydale and Syracuse areas, offering convenience for routine and emergency visits.
Based on the provided information, the promotional aspects of Mattydale Animal Hospital are primarily communicated through direct client interactions and word-of-mouth. While no formal marketing campaigns are described, the positive review acts as a strong testimonial, highlighting their ability to provide critical, life-saving care at a more accessible price point than emergency-only facilities. This narrative of affordability and compassionate emergency intervention would be a significant draw for pet owners facing dire situations.
However, the negative review also serves as cautionary information for potential clients, emphasizing the importance of detailed discussions about pricing and payment options beforehand. The discrepancy between the initial estimate and the final bill, and the lack of clear explanation for additional charges, suggests that prospective clients should be proactive in requesting itemized estimates and clarifying all potential costs upfront, especially for non-emergency procedures like spay/neuter.
The phone numbers (315) 455-5915 and +1 315-455-5915 are the primary contact points for scheduling appointments or inquiring about services. While the hospital clearly provides essential veterinary services, the mixed reviews indicate that potential clients should consider both the positive experiences regarding emergency care and the concerns raised about routine pricing and customer service. It implies that while they are capable of excellent medical outcomes, especially in emergencies, managing client expectations regarding cost and communication could be an area for improvement to ensure a consistently positive experience for all pet owners.

Apr 07, 2025 路 Mae RoseSo I took my dog that I rescued. They found them outside when he was four weeks old and I took him to get neutered. He鈥檚 seven months old now and they told me 600 starting at 600 which is ridiculous in the first place and then I get the bill and it was $242 on top of what they had told me so a total of $842 which is ridiculous and she鈥檚 and I said well what cause the extra $242 and the girl at the desk could only say that they had to give him nausea medicine and I looked it up and it was only $27 for the nausea medicine so what I wanna know what cost $242 extra and she basically couldn鈥檛 tell me and I think this is Ridiculous this is why spay neuter their pets and unfortunately I don鈥檛 qualify for any low income spay or neutering and then I asked her if I could pay 242 in installments and she鈥檚 like no and that case I wouldn鈥檛 give you the medicine that he needs and I thought that was pretty shitty that she actually said that to me oh, in that case I wouldn鈥檛 give you the prescriptions he needs not to mention. Are they way overpriced over the estimate but they鈥檙e actually rude as hell and it鈥檚 not just one or two of them it鈥檚 basically all of them that are freaking rude and I can tell you right now. I鈥檝e been Going there for the last 10 years or so and it鈥檚 the prices have gotten so ridiculous. You can鈥檛 afford to take your dog to The vet. Most of the time I take my dog To vetco it鈥檚 a lot cheaper, but unfortunately, they don鈥檛 spay and neuter animals or I鈥檇 be going there instead, but I definitely do have to find a new vet because that鈥檚 the last time they鈥檙e taking advantage of me and I thought it was ridiculous that you wouldn鈥檛 set up a payment arrangement with me they鈥檝e done it in the past and I don鈥檛 know why they wouldn鈥檛 do it this time so that鈥檚 why you鈥檙e getting your one star Not only are they overpriced, but they鈥檙e also very rude on top of it so I suggest anybody that wants to go there think again unless you got a big bank account and you don鈥檛 mind paying double what everybody else charges I should鈥檝e called around. I did call a few places, but they couldn鈥檛 get him in until late April and I wanted to get them neutered as soon as possible so I guess you have to pay for that. But trust me, I鈥檓 gonna be more diligent about finding a new vet for my dogs and people that are not nasty and rude
Mar 08, 2025 路 Sharon CookI have been coming here for almost 15 years with all my dogs and cats I have had. It is not corporatized- it is owned by Dr Lezkovitch- an incredible and very experienced vet that I have immense respect for. There have been several other good vets here over the years but she is always here and takes incredible care of my animals. Her office staff is beyond beyond beyond amazing- (not a typo- they are worth 3 beyonds!) patient, kind, knowledgeable, understanding, and helpful. And- they are the same people that have been here all 15 years! To me, that says that the business takes care of their people because there isn't that turnover you see in most businesses! I don't feel like they pressure unnecessary procedures; I have never felt rushed when I ask a million questions about taking good care of my animals; and they have been there through the very difficult times that come with being a fur-parent. They also are pretty good about getting my animals in as soon as they can. They are busy - which is another sign that they are good people, but still always get my fur-kids in asap when necessary. It is not cheap, but I think that is an issue everywhere and comparatively I believe they are fairly priced. Though I do wish they'd throw in a complimentary nail trim with exams, but that's just wishing, I suppose, lol! (And they have actually done that a couple times over the years to my immense gratitude- we always just like an extra treat lol) I have nothing but amazing things to say about all the people who work at Mattydale animal hospital!
Oct 10, 2024 路 Jamie GSaved our baby girl! Our vet was booked up weeks out and actually recommended an emergency visit here. We took her in today and she was seen and treated right away. The price they quoted is we very affordable and quite lower than our actual vet ( big plus) the staff was very friendly and helpful. Baby girl seemed to like it here and was calm overall for her condition. We are in the process of changing over to this location with our other pets.
Mar 14, 2024 路 Rae RayizCalled 5 different places. They were the only vet within an hour drive that would take birds and in an emergency on such short notice that wasn't an existing patient. My female parakeet was bound with 2 eggs when she had never had eggs before after 8 years of having my birds. They got me into my appointment earlier than expected, and she's making a chipper recovery after isolating a bit in a separate cage. And the price for everything including xrays and treatment was amazingly affordable. The staff were friendly and informative, and I will definitely be keeping them as my vet and would recommend them. Such a wonderful job. (Pictured: Blue Female=Kotori, and Yellow Male=Lemon Pledge)
