I would not trust my pets with Larchmont Village Vet. As someone who has business in the neighborhood, I’ve heard some good things about them so I gave them the benefit of the doubt many times. However, after three awful experiences in a row, I will no longer trust my pets with them and make it known to the many people that I do business and acquaint with in Hancock park about them. 1. They will recommend a bunch of unnecessary vaccines and products on the dog, even for the slightest of reasons. When asked which are required and for what reason, their response is always uncertain with a push towards doing all of them. 2. I had conversed with the staff that my dog might be too anxious for the non-anesthetic dental appointment. They assured me that if they are not able to see her at the appointment time, they would be able to try again with trazadone a few hours later. This was not done as promised and then they tried to charge me for the appointment. 3. My dog came in for a second vaccine, which should have been in and out in 5 minutes, as quoted by the vet tech who took him in. Another dog came in for two vaccines after me and they were in and out in 5 minutes. After 25 minutes of waiting, I asked if they could check on my dog because it’s taking longer than expected. All three staff members in the front ignored my concern, while male front desk worker said they can check me out now. After I paid, I asked again if my dog was ok. They ignored my concerns again and said “yeah yeah”. As I was driving home, my dog was acting lethargic. I called and was transferred to the vet tech who saw him. I asked if something happened for him to take so long when he was there for just a vaccine. The vet tech also went around the bush trying to answer me and then eventually blamed the front desk for forgetting to check me out in time. My dog has now been having explosive diarrhea for three days and when I called to make an appointment with them this morning, I was put on hold for 20 minutes. The call dropped twice and when I asked if I was going to be able to speak to someone, it seems they are severely understaffed and that is probably why they are so poorly run. The least they could do is say they would leave a message for me or call back at a better time if they are busy. Their front desk staff are incompetent and practices are questionable. I would not be comfortable with trusting them with a bigger procedure on my dogs, let alone being able to complete a simple vaccine or phone call.

Dr. Drayton took care of my two late Standard Poodles at another animal clinic for years. When he left that place for Larchmont VV, we followed him. He has been the primary vet of my no-longer-new Bernedoodle ever since she joined our family almost 3 yrs ago. Dr. Drayton is so kind and has a very calming presence and my dog(s) loves(d) him. And I have found him to be the best vet I've ever met - not only is he very knowledgeable and a great doc, but he never tries to upsell anything or convince me to feed my dog the doggie version of junk food (these have been my main "pet peeves" with almost all other vets). The staff is always very nice and friendly as well. Occasionally wait times have been long (but that happens at any medical facility - some patients need more time than allotted and that's just the way it is, and any business is sometimes short-staffed) - but most of the time it goes pretty quickly. Overall I have only had positive experiences with everyone and everything at Larchmont Village Vet and I am very grateful to have a vet I trust and like.

When our caring vet of 8 years retired, we transferred records to Larchmont Village Vet and made an appointment for a physical for our nearly 15 yr old Jack Russell. The appointment was with Dr Fishman. Upon arrival, we were immediately on alert. The place was unwelcoming - like a temporary pop up, without any warm elements. The front desk guy was equally unfriendly. Rather than Fishman (who I specifically requested), another Dr. came in (no explanation for the switch). She was nice enough and told us that, despite her advancing age and minor cognitive decline, to continue with her anti-anxiety med (that she's been on forever!) and that it's possible she could live another couple years given her strong vitals. We walked away thinking looks can be deceiving! WRONG! Last Saturday, our dog became listless, abnormally sleeping for hours. We thought - this is the end! I called Larchmont Village Vet in a panic. The unfriendly guy said they were closing in half an hour and no one could even come to the phone, let alone see her. When I said this was an emergency, he actually got nasty! I couldn't believe the lack of flexibility or empathy! So I called the old vet, who had thoughtfully left a recording directing people to MASH animal hospital in an emergency.They couldn't have been nicer. After a series of tests, their Dr shared that she likely had a mild stroke, but given her advanced age and usual indecisive results, the best course of action was not to put her through any more tests but rather monitor her decline. We were happy to see she had perked up (feisty Jacks!!) and accepted what lies ahead. In the commotion, I forgot to ask whether to continue the anti-anxiety meds or whether that might accelerate the cognitive decline. Monday I had MASH transfer the records to Larchmont Village Vet and called them to ask about taking her off that one pill. When I finally reached their receptionist, she told me no one was available. I asked for a Vet to please call back. Hours later, she called back to say they refused to speak to me as I hadn't brought her there during the episode (!!!). What?? Therefore, I now needed to bring her back in for more tests to get to the source. Seriously? I explained that they had diagnostics from a month ago, tests from MASH, plus we had just decided AGAINST more tests!! All I wanted was a quick follow up call with the Vet (who we just saw for a lot of $$$) about a simple pill. Nope! No one would speak to me unless I came in and paid for more tests all over again! Not even a question about how she was actually doing! Our old vet 1) would have squeezed her in if she was having an emergency - even if he was closing in a half hour, 2) would have called us over the weekend to see how she - and we - were doing! 2) on Monday, gotten on the phone about the pill! Find a vet who cares!

I bring my dog here for grooming every four weeks and she is very well taken care of. Elizabeth is an excellent groomer. I have never struggled to make an appointment post-Covid. We have been clients for four years. If you understand the difference between a vet and an animal hospital and veterinary specialists, your expectations will be met.
