The longevity of client relationships, with some having brought their pets for over 13 years, speaks volumes about the consistent positive experience and comfort level provided by the hospital. The facility aims to create a stress-free experience, which is particularly important given that veterinary visits can be anxious for pets and their owners.
Kittanning Veterinary Hospital offers an extensive array of services, reflecting its commitment to holistic and lifelong pet care. These services are designed to address the needs of animals from puppyhood and kittenhood through their senior years, covering preventative care, diagnostics, medical treatment, and surgical interventions. Key services include:
- Complete Wellness Care: Routine wellness exams are fundamental to their approach. These comprehensive nose-to-tail examinations are crucial for maintaining pet well-being and detecting medical issues early. They include assessment of overall body condition, eyes, ears, mouth, internal organs, skin, and more.
- Vaccinations: Tailored vaccination schedules are developed for each pet based on their age, breed, lifestyle, and environment, including core and non-core vaccines for canines (e.g., leptospirosis, bordetella, lyme disease, canine influenza) and felines (e.g., feline leukemia).
- Pet Dentistry: Recognizing the importance of oral health, the hospital provides comprehensive dental services. These include preventative care, oral exams, teeth cleanings (with pre-anesthetic physical examination), and extractions. They emphasize educating pet owners on maintaining their pets' oral hygiene.
- Surgical Services: Kittanning Veterinary Hospital offers a wide range of basic surgical procedures, from spays and neuters to soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. They prioritize patient safety and comfort, utilizing state-of-the-art anesthetic and monitoring technology and developing safe and effective anesthetic protocols.
- Diagnostics: Equipped with in-house laboratory testing and advanced medical imaging capabilities (radiographs/X-rays and ultrasound), they can quickly and accurately diagnose various conditions. These non-invasive tools help evaluate organs and bones, aiding in understanding internal issues.
- Large Animal Veterinary Services: A unique and significant offering, Kittanning Veterinary Hospital extends its expertise to large animals, with veterinarians traveling to area farms. Services include regular dairy herd preventative care, sick animal exams and treatments, routine vaccinations, reproductive care, complete dental care, portable X-ray, ultrasound, and internal medicine. Smaller species like sheep, goats, alpacas, and pot-bellied pigs can also be examined at the hospital.
- Parasite Prevention and Control: They help develop prevention routines for internal (e.g., heartworm) and external (e.g., fleas, ticks) parasites through physical exams, fecal tests, and blood tests, even for pets on year-round prevention.
- Puppy and Kitten Care: Initial visits include physical exams, vaccine schedule development, diet discussions, and parasite prevention plans. They also discuss the importance of spaying/neutering and microchipping.
- Senior Pet Care: Recognizing the unique needs of older pets, they provide specialized care and guidance to help senior pets live comfortably and healthily.
- Urgent Care: Kittanning Veterinary Hospital provides urgent care services during specified hours. For after-hours small animal emergencies, they offer a contact number to reach an on-call technician, and for large animal emergencies, direct calls to the clinic phone are directed to an answering service.
- Microchipping: To aid in the recovery of lost pets, microchip implantation services are provided.
- Pharmacy: They likely maintain an in-house pharmacy for convenient access to necessary medications.
- Euthanasia and Cremation: With compassion and dignity, the staff assists pet owners through the difficult process of saying goodbye, offering sedation and helping with arrangements for cremation or other options.

May 16, 2025 · Mark MIECZNIKOWSKII was a bit disappointed at my visit here on April 28, 2025. I was apprehensive to go to this visit as the checkup last year did not go well. They seem unprepared to handle an anxious and somewhat aggressive dog. The tech we had did not seem to enjoy her work and was quite sarcastic about working with our dog. She remembered him from last year I guess. I would think one in her line of work one could pretend to like animals. When he got his shots, I asked if that was all he needed and they assured me it was. When we checked out the receptionist and I realized he needed his rabies shot, which was missed. I was upset as I thought he may not do well any longer. Instead of apologizing, they just said that everyone makes mistakes and seemed to blame me for being upset. The vet also seemed unprepared when I asked about the medication and sedation they administered and told me to give my dog last year. I was wondering because of the negative side effects he had afterwards, as they also told me to give him the same medication this year. I have been wanting a new vet anyway, so I will not be returning here.
May 01, 2025 · Jennie WeaverI have been going here with my pets for about 30+ years and have always had a great experience when there. The vets and staff are friendly, caring, and compassionate when you bring your pet there. I will continue going here as long as I have pets. Great place!
