If you want your cat to die without explanation, bring them to this facility. I would leave zero stars if I could. My boy Zuko was only 11 months old when I brought him in for profuse vomiting. He was acting normal otherwise, and was eating, using the litter, and playing. I called on a Tuesday and was told to give him half of a Peptid AC and bring him to emergency if his vomiting persisted, which it did not until the morning of our scheduled appointment. When I brought him at 11 am on Thursday, Dr. Jan noted his abdomen was inflamed and suggested an x-ray and sedation (to calm him) without informing me on the possible risks of sedation. I must also add that she and her technician took zero measure of calming him down and handled him quite roughly. Zuko was an endlessly sweet boy and I just assumed he was afraid of the vet, which I also thought was normal for animals being a first time pet owner. I was then simply given a consent form, again, without communication of possible side effects of sedation. Trusting her, I signed it. I now understand that was a terrible mistake. She had me leave him at the facility for a few hours and I was to pick him up later. She then called me at 3:15 and informed me that “something went wrong” and that Zuko had died. She gave him the sedation and his heart stopped. She also failed to give him adrenaline of any kind until his blood was no longer circulating. My partner and I arrived to the facility immediately upon hearing the news and Dr. Jan was distraught, stating that death by sedation is very rare and never happens. Zuko never even received an x-ray for the original cause of the visit. I am left with no answers as to how he passed as she was completely in shock as well and could give us little professional insight. She told us she did not know. There was no suggestion or offer of an autopsy of any kind. When we were viewing his body, she came into the room with memorial papers and had to run back to “another sick cat.” It’s possible Zuko was given the wrong medication or too much of the sedative, but when we called to ask for a statement to provide our family with more closure and clarity, she provided us with an illegible photocopy of his medical records. When we went to pick up his ashes, she wasn’t at the office as it was her day off. I’ll note that she knew that we were coming to get his ashes that day and that day the office was only open for 3 hours. I had planned to ask more questions, but she was treating it like it was any other day for her. Meanwhile, our lives were ruined. At that point I decided to report her to the NJ veterinary board because I was tired of chasing her around for answers. That process takes from 6 months to a year or longer. I am left with no choice but to write this review. We are devastated by the loss of Zuko, our 11 month old kitten, whose life was cut short. Dr Jan failed to act in a timely manner to treat him. Maybe I should have brought him to emergency, but his vomiting had stopped for a period. Regardless, I will never know because we were given no explanation. And the fact that she couldn’t be bothered to be present for our arrival to pick up his ashes to answer any more questions we had (under the circumstances) was even more heartbreaking. I’m writing this review to reach anyone that it may concern and let them know Dr. Jan Rottenberg cannot be trusted to provide adequate care and failed to perform her due diligence after the fact.

Just Cats Veterinary Care Introduce
Welcome to Just Cats Veterinary Care, a dedicated pet hospital located at 1054 Amboy Ave, Edison, NJ 08820, USA. As a specialized feline veterinary practice, we focus solely on the unique health and wellness needs of your beloved cats.
At Just Cats Veterinary Care, we strive to create a calm and comfortable environment tailored specifically for our feline patients. We understand that cats can be particularly sensitive to unfamiliar surroundings, and our clinic is designed to minimize stress and promote a sense of security. While specific details about the clinic's ambiance are not available online, our commitment is to provide a welcoming space for you and your cat.
Our services are centered around comprehensive veterinary care for cats. Based on available information, a range of diagnostic and treatment services are offered. One customer review mentioned the availability of x-rays and sedation for diagnostic purposes. However, it's important to note that this review also raised serious concerns regarding the communication of potential risks associated with sedation and the overall quality of care in a specific instance. Another review offers a contrasting perspective, describing Dr. Jan and her staff as "honest, helpful, and kind" and the practice as "the best feline vet in the state of NJ."
Features of Just Cats Veterinary Care, as suggested by the positive review, may include a dedicated team with a focus on feline medicine, aiming to provide knowledgeable and compassionate care. However, in light of the negative review detailing a critical incident, it is advisable for potential clients to seek further information and clarification regarding the clinic's protocols, especially concerning procedures involving sedation, and to consider all available feedback when making decisions about their pet's care.
Promotional information is not explicitly available online. To learn about any current promotions or to inquire about becoming a new patient (as one review mentioned Dr. Jan might not be taking new patients at the time of writing), please contact Just Cats Veterinary Care directly at (732) 632-8200 or +1 732-632-8200.
We encourage local users to consider all available information and make informed decisions about their cat's veterinary care. Contacting Just Cats Veterinary Care directly will provide the most up-to-date information regarding their services, environment, and appointment availability.

Mar 18, 2025 · Ashley BacchusThe best feline vet in the state of NJ. Honest, helpful, and kind. Dr. Jan and her staff are amazing. I know she isn’t taking new patients at the writing of this review, but she is the best.
Nov 03, 2024 · Jennifer KetrowDr Jan was our Vet for a long time before we moved. She also helped with TNR cats. Her compassion truly showed. We trusted her opinions and her advise when needed. We were Blessed by her being our Vet
Apr 06, 2024 · JoAnn StamileI can not even begin to say enough nice things about Dr. Rothenberg! I've had cats all my life, and lots of cats means lots of vets, and Dr. Rothenberg impressed me like no other vet ever has. First you can tell she really cares about her patients. I didn't feel like I was just another paying customer she was in a rush to get out of the office so the next paying customer could come in. She actually pulled out a calculator and helped me figure out the best feeding plan for my slightly overweight cat. Never had a vet do that, and I've been trying to get my cat to lose weight through several vets now. Not only that, but she diagnosed an issue that 3 other vets had diagnosed as allergies even though it was a chronic issue year round. Second she didn't blink an eye or mention anesthesia when I inquired about bringing my half feral 'scaredy cat' in for a visit. This wonderful woman must have years of experience with badly socialized cats if she showed no hesitation in dealing with my wildish cat. Other vets have NOT responded like that...I've had a couple vets actually look scared at the prospect of dealing with this particular cat. Lastly, and what I found most impressive, was her talking to me about issues my large male cat experienced with a recent FVRCP vaccine. She wasn't terribly familiar with his breed off the top of her head (it's an odd breed) so she pulled out a book and looked it up. She helped me find answers for my cat's issues and he wasn't even the current patient. That right there proves she gives a damn. Most vets would say 'bring him in for a visit' and leave it at that. My search for a vet is over!!! I'm considering bringing all of my cats in for exams even though they aren't due for one...that's how impressed I was with Dr. Rothenberg.
Jul 08, 2018 · Krystal MDr Rottenberg saved my cat. Several other vets misdiagnosed him and he grew a very large tumor on the outside of his lower jaw. No one would operate but Dr. Jan. She’s an unbelievable person and she saved my cat. Now he’s back to being a crazy cat again bossy and happy! I don’t know what I would have done without her!
