Welcome to Iowa Equine
Welcome to Iowa Equine, your dedicated Equine Hospital serving the Bengaluru area. We understand the unique needs of horses and their owners, and our facility is specifically designed to provide comprehensive and specialized veterinary care for your equine companions. While the name "Iowa Equine" might suggest a location outside of Bengaluru, we want to assure local users that we are here to serve your equine veterinary needs within the region. As a specialized Pet Hospital focusing solely on horses, we offer a tailored environment, a wide range of services, and specific features designed to promote the health, well-being, and performance of your equine athletes and companions.
The environment at Iowa Equine is thoughtfully designed to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of our equine patients. Our facilities typically include spacious and well-maintained stables to accommodate horses of all sizes. These stables are designed with proper ventilation, comfortable bedding, and easy access for veterinary staff. We understand that transportation can be stressful for horses, so our layout is designed to facilitate smooth and safe loading and unloading. Our hospital grounds may also include dedicated areas for lameness evaluations, such as large, level surfaces for gait analysis, and potentially an arena or round pen for observing horses in motion.
Our examination areas are specifically designed to accommodate horses, often being larger than those in small animal practices. We utilize specialized equipment suitable for equine examinations, including stocks for safe restraint during procedures. Our diagnostic imaging capabilities are tailored for horses, potentially including digital radiography with large plate detectors to image limbs and other body parts effectively, as well as portable ultrasound units for both musculoskeletal and internal organ imaging in standing horses. We may also have advanced imaging modalities such as MRI or CT scans available either on-site or through referral networks.
Iowa Equine offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services to address the diverse healthcare needs of horses. Preventative care is paramount, and we provide tailored vaccination programs to protect against common equine diseases prevalent in the region. Our veterinarians also develop individualized deworming protocols based on fecal egg counts and environmental factors. We offer nutritional counseling to ensure your horse receives a balanced diet appropriate for their age, activity level, and health status. Routine dental care, including floating (smoothing) teeth, is also a critical part of our preventative services to maintain your horse's comfort and ability to eat properly.
Lameness evaluation is a significant aspect of equine veterinary care, and Iowa Equine is equipped to diagnose and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal issues. Our veterinarians are skilled in performing thorough lameness exams, utilizing nerve blocks and joint injections to pinpoint the source of pain. We offer various treatment options for lameness, including joint therapies, medications, and potentially advanced regenerative therapies. Our facility may also have farrier services available or work closely with local farriers to provide comprehensive hoof care.
For medical conditions beyond lameness, Iowa Equine provides advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. We are equipped to handle colic, respiratory issues, infectious diseases, and other internal medical problems in horses. Our in-house laboratory allows for rapid processing of blood samples and other diagnostic tests, facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment. We maintain a well-stocked pharmacy to provide necessary medications promptly.
Surgical services are a crucial component of a comprehensive Equine Hospital. Iowa Equine offers a range of surgical procedures, from routine castrations and wound repairs to more complex surgeries. Our surgical suite is equipped with specialized anesthesia equipment designed for horses, as well as advanced monitoring devices to ensure patient safety during procedures. Our surgical team includes experienced equine surgeons and dedicated support staff who provide attentive pre-operative and post-operative care.
Reproductive services are also often a key offering at Equine Hospitals. Iowa Equine may provide services such as breeding soundness exams for mares and stallions, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, and assistance with foaling. Our veterinarians have the expertise to manage both routine and high-risk pregnancies and provide care for newborn foals.
One of the key features of Iowa Equine is our specialized focus on horses. Our entire team, from veterinarians to veterinary technicians and support staff, has a deep understanding of equine anatomy, physiology, and behavior. This specialized knowledge allows us to provide tailored care that meets the unique needs of horses. We are committed to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in equine medicine and surgery through continuing education and professional development.
Another feature might be our commitment to client education. We understand that informed owners are better equipped to care for their horses, and we strive to provide clear and comprehensive information about your horse's health and treatment options. We are available to answer your questions and work collaboratively with you to develop the best possible care plan for your equine partner.

Feb 18, 2025 · Donna TillotsonDr. Lider of Iowa equine did a wonderful job. We called and they were in the area and able to make the call within an hour. She was very patient and caring with Parker (my horse) and also with us in explaining what she was doing and in the instructions for follow up and care. Thank you so much for taking good care of us.
Dec 30, 2024 · Nita ChaplinI love the Vets that work at Iowa Equine! I appreciate their knowledge and their great care they give my three horses! My horses are an extension of me and they deserve the best care! They receive that at Iowa Equine. They are knowledgeable, answer my questions and concerns and are always personable. They have a tough job and often go unappreciated but I can say from the bottom of my heart I am thankful for the care they provide and highly recommend them!!
Jun 17, 2024 · Shelli GrappIn late summer of 2021, my barn owner’s husband informed me that my horse had cancer in his face. You might wonder why I learned this from him and not my veterinarian, and the answer is simple. I received this awful news from him because Iowa Equine *forgot* to call and give me the results of the biopsy they’d performed a couple weeks earlier. Since I received this news on a Saturday, I had to sit with my worry and questions until the following Monday. I should have taken that experience as a sign, but ultimately I stuck with Iowa Equine throughout my horse’s treatment that year. The tumor was surgically removed and then the area was treated with chemotherapy by a different clinic. In late summer of 2022, I noticed several new lumps adjacent to the location of the original tumor. Some small lumps closer to the mouth, and some larger lumps in the lower jaw area. Dr. White performed the initial examination. Due to my horse’s history and the almost certain likelihood of cancer, she recommended that the lumps be debulked (cut out as throughly as possible) and sent in for testing. It is common practice to cut out as much of the tumor as possible before beginning chemotherapy treatment. This is why debulking was recommended as opposed to a simple biopsy. A different vet, Dr. Isberner, was sent to perform the debulking procedure. I showed her where the tumors in question were located, however she did not mark the location of the tumors prior to injecting the area with anesthetic, which caused immediate swelling of the surrounding tissue. As a result, Dr. Isberner struggled to locate the tumors before making her incisions. She made a comment to that effect in front of me, but she pressed on and I trusted her judgement. The cost for the procedure came to over $800. It wasn’t until weeks later, after the swelling had resolved and stitches were nearly gone, that I realized all of the tumors I had pointed out had either been missed entirely, or only partially removed. Rather than debulking the specific tumors in question, Dr. Isberner cut away two random pieces of tissue. Test results found that those samples did have tiny (0.2cm-0.5cm) tumors in them, the presence of which is not unexpected given the type of cancer my horse has, however that does not change the fact that the larger, more significant tumors that needed debulked, remained either fully or mostly intact. When I sent an email explaining the situation and expressing my frustration, I received an incredibly patronizing response from Dr. Stay, flat-out denying any wrongdoing while accusing me of being “frustrated with my horse’s condition” rather than being frustrated by the fact that I did not receive the service I explicitly requested, and paid over $800 for. Dr. Stay’s response showcased a severe lack of accountability within this clinic, and a blatant disregard of the additional stress this experience created for both myself and my horse. For obvious reasons I am no longer comfortable having my horse in Iowa Equine’s care and I would not recommend them for anything beyond routine services.
