Welcome to Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service (Dr. Jane Knoper)

Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service, under the care of Dr. Jane Knoper, is a "Pet Hospital" situated at 40905 Larwood Dr #9773, Scio, OR 97374, USA. The clinic can be reached by phone at (503) 394-4200 or mobile at +1 503-394-4200. This veterinary service is particularly distinctive in its ability to cater to a broader range of animals than typical small animal clinics, indicated by its name "Hoof & Paw," suggesting expertise with both large and small animals. The practice aims to provide comprehensive veterinary care, addressing various medical needs for a diverse patient base, from beloved household pets to working animals like Livestock Guardian Dogs and horses.

The environment at Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service, while not described in detail regarding physical aesthetics, appears to be characterized by a focus on practical and direct veterinary care. Given its likely dual focus on small and large animals, the clinic's facilities would need to accommodate different sizes and species, perhaps with designated areas for each. For large animals like horses, the "on-site" nature of some examinations, such as a pre-purchase exam, implies that the clinic might offer mobile veterinary services or have dedicated large-animal handling areas. The reviews highlight the personal interaction with Dr. Jane Knoper, emphasizing her "kind and patient" demeanor with animals. This suggests a calm and considerate approach during examinations and treatments, aiming to minimize stress for the animals. While one review points to potential unfamiliarity with specific breed requirements in horses, the overall intent seems to be to provide a professional environment where animals receive hands-on attention. The operational hours are typically Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, suggesting consistent availability for appointments within those times.

Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service offers a range of services tailored to both companion animals ("Paw") and larger livestock ("Hoof"). While a full comprehensive list is not available, the customer reviews provide insight into some of the specialized care provided. For "Paw" animals, such as a Livestock Guardian Dog, the clinic demonstrates a capability to handle complex and "obscure auto immune diagnosis." This implies a strong diagnostic ability and a commitment to thorough research, as noted by the client stating Dr. Knoper "researched the diagnosis prior to our visit." This indicates a dedication to understanding and addressing intricate medical conditions. For "Hoof" animals like horses, the service includes pre-purchase exams, which are critical for evaluating an animal's health and suitability before a transaction. While a specific review noted some concerns regarding breed specifications and handling during a horse exam, the offering of such specialized services highlights the clinic's broad scope. General veterinary services, which would be standard for a "Pet Hospital" category, would typically include wellness exams, vaccinations, and treatment for common illnesses and injuries for various species, though the specific focus on "Hoof & Paw" suggests a broader range than a typical small-animal-only clinic.

A key feature of Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service, particularly under the leadership of Dr. Jane Knoper, is her willingness to engage in in-depth research for challenging and less common diagnoses. For example, her preparation for a Livestock Guardian Dog's "obscure auto immune diagnosis" demonstrates a commitment to providing informed and thorough care. This dedication to continuous learning and investigation is a significant asset, particularly for owners with pets suffering from complex or unusual conditions. Another feature is the clinic's approach to patient interaction, described as "kind and patient" with animals. This compassionate handling is crucial, especially for animals that may be stressed or difficult to manage during veterinary visits. The "Hoof & Paw" designation itself is a significant feature, indicating a versatile practice capable of serving both small domestic animals and larger livestock, making it a valuable resource for a diverse range of animal owners in the Scio area. While one review highlights a discrepancy in a horse evaluation, suggesting areas for improved consistency or breed-specific knowledge in some instances, the overall picture points to a practice that is generally committed to providing dedicated and often specialized veterinary care.

Regarding promotional information, Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service primarily focuses on making veterinary care financially manageable for its clients. They are listed as accepting pet insurance for unexpected accidents and illnesses, which is a significant financial tool for pet owners. This aligns with standard practices in "Pet Hospitals" that aim to reduce the financial burden of veterinary care. Furthermore, the clinic is known to support "wellness plans" offered by some insurance providers, which help cover routine health expenses, encouraging proactive and preventive care. For existing medical conditions or unexpected large upfront costs, Hoof & Paw Veterinary Service also accepts financing solutions like CareCredit and Scratchpay. These payment options allow clients to space out payments over time, making comprehensive treatment more accessible. While not a direct promotional discount, the clinic's active participation in these financial programs serves as a practical promotion, reassuring clients that they have avenues to manage the costs of their pet's health. The positive testimonials, particularly about Dr. Knoper's thorough research and kind approach for complex cases, also act as strong word-of-mouth promotions, attracting clients who value in-depth medical investigation and empathetic care for their animals.

Was called out to conduct a Pre-Purchase Exam. She was nice but extremely unfamiliar with breed specifications so faulted the horse for movement that is required of the breed. Gave contradictory evaluation of the horse; in one area said she was overweight and in another area said line would improve with weight gain. Was very disappointed in her handling skills and manor of examining. Made a comment about an old injury saying it had enlarged with age but had never seen the horse or injury prior. Would not recommend.

She laughed at my questions and was very rude. She spent most of the time talking about herself and how great she was, even though I was the one to tell her about certain vaccines. She was very arrogant and talked down to me the entire time siting her credentials without asking about or knowing mine.
