Giving two stars because the ladies upfront are always very nice, helpful, and easy to talk to. I went in for my fur baby who is pregnant. I asked for an ear mite treatment since my cat has lost hair from scratching and keeps dirty ears just like if she was to have ear mites. I was treated very poorly by the man who is old with gray/white hair. I was told HE did not see any ear mites in her ear by just looking in her ear. Ear mites are microscopic parasites? When I asked how he checked to see if any ear mites were present he replied saying HE can see them, as well as telling me the many years he has been “doing this”. I do not care if you have worked as a veterinarian for 11 years, it does not give you microscopic eye site. I have enough knowledge to know the symptoms of ear mites and I should not have to continue cleaning what looks like coffee grounds out of my cats ears when it can be treated. Nor should I have to have a debate so my pet can get the care they need. I explained I have to clean her ears often but was told there is no ear mites and it was normal only dirt and dust from being outside when she has only been outside once. When I asked if she could just get an ear mite treatment for peace of mind I was told “ITS YOUR MONEY!” Very rude like and once again reminded me how long he has been “doing this”. Honestly he seemed more concerned about his pride and me questioning his observation of my cats ears than the administration of care and what was best for my pet.. I felt my concerns were ignored, and treated in an unprofessional manner as well as being talked about once he went in the back. ( your walls are thin) which I really didn’t appreciate, and was extremely childish and unnecessary over a ear mite treatment. I then was denied any type of flea or deworming because “she was pregnant” but was told beforehand by the same man that they have safe options for cats that are pregnant. After the ear mite drops were given I was told they were done. Refusing any other care for her. I won’t be back, I have had bad experiences in the past, as well as my sister resulting in a misdiagnosis causing her to loss her fur baby due to this staffs negligence. I have tried to stick with this office but this just isn’t the type of care and level of professionalism i want towards me or my pet. I called another vets office with higher ratings and have an appointment for her to get dewormed and treated for fleas since they clearly have more knowledge, and professionalism. I was told by this particular office she most definitely could be dewormed and treated for fleas since there are options that are safe for a pregnant cats. I would NOT recommend Hinkles, and will not be returning! Edit: from the multiple reviews about the older man with gray/white hair I think it’s clear he is the reason for many problems. I agree that it is time for him to retire.

Welcome to Hinkle's Pet Hospital
For pet owners in Spindale, North Carolina, seeking a local "Pet Hospital," Hinkle's Pet Hospital, located at 467 West St, presents a complex picture based on recent customer reviews. While some aspects of the clinic, particularly regarding affordability in certain situations, are praised, significant concerns have been raised about staff professionalism, communication, and the handling of specific pet health issues. Potential clients should carefully consider these varying experiences.
One consistent positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the friendliness and helpfulness of the front office staff. One reviewer specifically states, "Giving two stars because the ladies upfront are always very nice, helpful, and easy to talk to." This suggests that initial interactions with the administrative side of the clinic may be pleasant and efficient, providing a welcoming point of contact for pet owners and their animals.
However, a significant portion of the feedback raises concerns about the veterinary care provided by at least one of the practitioners. One detailed review describes a negative experience involving the diagnosis and treatment of a pregnant cat suspected of having ear mites. The reviewer recounts feeling "treated very poorly" by an older male veterinarian with gray/white hair. The core of the issue revolves around the veterinarian's refusal to acknowledge the possibility of ear mites based on a visual inspection alone, despite the cat exhibiting classic symptoms such as hair loss from scratching and dirty ears resembling coffee grounds. The reviewer's attempts to explain the symptoms and request treatment were met with dismissiveness, assertions of the veterinarian's years of experience as proof of his visual diagnostic abilities (despite ear mites being microscopic), and a rude comment ("ITS YOUR MONEY!") when the owner requested treatment for peace of mind. This interaction highlights potential issues with the veterinarian's diagnostic approach and bedside manner.
This same reviewer also alleges unprofessional behavior, including feeling ignored, being spoken about after the veterinarian went to the back (due to thin walls), and being denied flea and deworming treatment for the pregnant cat despite initially being told safe options were available. This inconsistency in information and the subsequent denial of care further contributed to a negative experience, ultimately leading the reviewer to seek care at another veterinary office with higher ratings, where they received the requested treatments. The mention of thin walls could also be a factor in the clinic's environment, potentially impacting the privacy and comfort of consultations for pet owners.
The edit to this negative review points out that multiple reviewers have identified the older male veterinarian with gray/white hair as the source of many problems, with a suggestion that it might be time for him to retire. This recurring theme in negative feedback across multiple experiences should be a significant consideration for potential clients, indicating a potentially systemic issue with one of the practitioners at the clinic.
On the other hand, another recent review offers a starkly contrasting positive experience. This reviewer highly recommends Hinkle's Pet Hospital, describing it as the "best pet hospital ever." Their positive experience stemmed from their cat being diagnosed with pyometra at an emergency vet, who quoted a significantly higher price for surgery and allegedly made the owner feel pressured and focused on the financial aspect rather than the pet's well-being. In contrast, Hinkle's Pet Hospital provided a much more affordable quote for the same surgery, and the final cost was less than half of what was quoted elsewhere. This reviewer felt that the team at Hinkle's genuinely cared about their pet's life and were focused on providing necessary care without excessive upselling or unnecessary procedures. They expressed immense gratitude for the life-saving surgery and stated their intention to return for general care of their other pets. This experience suggests that Hinkle's Pet Hospital may offer a more compassionate and financially reasonable approach in certain critical surgical situations.
This positive review highlights a potential feature of Hinkle's Pet Hospital: affordability, particularly in comparison to emergency veterinary services and perhaps other clinics in the area, at least in certain surgical cases. It also suggests that the clinic may be willing to work with pet owners on pricing and prioritize essential care, demonstrating a commitment to making necessary treatments accessible. This could be a significant factor for pet owners concerned about the high cost of veterinary care.
Given these contrasting experiences, it is difficult to definitively characterize the overall environment and services of Hinkle's Pet Hospital. The positive review suggests a caring and financially considerate approach, at least in emergency surgical situations, indicating that the clinic is equipped to handle complex medical needs. However, the negative review paints a picture of potential issues with diagnostic thoroughness, communication, and the professionalism of at least one of the veterinarians, raising concerns about the consistency of care across all practitioners. The mention of thin walls could also be a factor in the clinic's environment, potentially impacting the privacy and comfort of consultations for pet owners, making them feel less secure in discussing sensitive information about their pets' health.
In terms of services, based on the reviews, Hinkle's Pet Hospital appears to offer general veterinary care, including consultations, diagnosis, treatment (including ear mite treatment, though the quality of this is disputed in one review), and surgical procedures, as evidenced by the successful pyometra surgery. However, the refusal to provide flea and deworming treatment to a pregnant cat, despite claims of safe options being available, raises questions about the consistency or scope of their services in certain situations and may indicate a lack of up-to-date knowledge or a reluctance to treat specific conditions. The positive surgical outcome suggests competence in complex procedures, but the negative experience indicates potential shortcomings in routine diagnostics and preventative care.
There is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Potential clients would need to contact Hinkle's Pet Hospital directly at (828) 287-5899 or +1 828-287-5899 to inquire about any current specials, discounts for new clients, or payment options they may offer to make veterinary care more accessible. It would be prudent for potential clients to inquire about the specific veterinarians who will be treating their pets and to express any concerns based on the reviews they have encountered.
In conclusion, Hinkle's Pet Hospital in Spindale, NC, presents a complex picture for local pet owners seeking a "Pet Hospital." While the front office staff is consistently praised for their friendliness, and the clinic is lauded for providing affordable and life-saving surgery in at least one instance, there are significant concerns raised about the professionalism, diagnostic approach, and communication style of at least one of the veterinarians. The stark contrast between the positive and negative reviews suggests that experiences at this clinic may vary considerably. Potential clients are strongly advised to carefully consider these differing perspectives and perhaps seek further information or a consultation to determine if Hinkle's Pet Hospital meets their individual needs and expectations for their pet's care. The recurring negative feedback regarding a specific veterinarian warrants particular attention and may prompt potential clients to inquire about which veterinarian would be treating their pet.

Mar 25, 2025 · Jennifer AlleyDefinitely Recommend!!! Hands down, best pet hospital ever. My almost 8yo baby Nona, was diagnosed with pyometra. The emergency vet that diagnosed her quoted $3600 for her surgery. They made me feel as if this was my only option and if I did not do the surgery now then there could be some serious consequences. I do understand this can be life threatening for her and wanted her to be taken care of sooner rather than later. But they also did not make me feel as if they actually cared about her or her life but more about the funds she could bring in. They told me she would have to stay over night, have blood work every few hours on and on to rack up the bill but didn’t actually make me feel like they were interested in helping my baby and providing the care she was needing. I called several pet hospitals and most wouldn’t even give me a quote on a price for the surgery but wanted me to bring her in instead and spend extra money on initial exams then for them to then quote me. I was so fearful that I’d spend more money on initial exams and not have money left for surgery. My aunt brought her cat into Hinkle’s to be spayed a few days ago and gave them a call for me to get some information. They were on it ! When I say on it, I mean it. Quoted me a much better price than anyone other vet, and at the end I paid less than half of what was quoted everywhere else. No one can say the people here at Hinkle’s don’t care about your pets because they proved to me today that there are places that will help you and your fur babies with your babies best interest not just dollar signs. They truly cared for my baby and her life meant something to these folks and I cannot thank the team here enough for helping my sweet girl. I will be forever grateful and will be returning for general care for my other fur babies. Thank you so so much! Just a little photo dump for everyone to see my sweet baby and the life that Hinkle’s amazingly saved for me today 🥰❤️
Feb 15, 2024 · Jade ThomasI'm giving this place one start for my mother who was done so very wrong today. She doesn't drive and had a very sick kitty. When her ride didn't show up to take her to the vet to get her animal care and refused to answer the phone, my mother informed them and told her to bring her baby in this afternoon, that it was fine she just may have to wait to be seen. I was working so my husband drove her. Not only did she lose her precious baby today but this vets office raked her threw the coals. When she was told her opinions the best course of action was euthanasia. However by the time her baby was administered a sedative to keep the animal calm before euthanasia that animal had passed and no euthanasia medicines were administered yet my mother was being charged for euthanasia and also an emergency vet visit. My mother is on social security only,on a fixed income and after losing her husband 7 years ago her animals are all she has other than me. This vet office Not only was heartless but they also overcharge my mother for services she did not receive and an emergency visit she should not have had to pay for because they were aware why she missed her appointment. I have taken all of my animals to this vet's office but after this I am seriously considering not going back myself, our pets are like family and this vet's office should have been more empathetic to my mother's situation and the fact she had to put a baby down. So yes I am putting this vet's office on blast for the way they treated my mother and for the ridiculous amounts of money they charged her today when it was completely unnecessary Update: This place is a joke. After my mother spoke with her bank about these erroneous charges for Euthanasia when her cat didn't survive the sedative it was given her bank decided to block the charges. Well she received a phone call saying they would be taking her to court, over a 146$ charge that was BS to start. Her appointment wasn't missed it was rescheduled for later in the day, because her ride was a no show and out of her control, so the emergency charge was bogus and the charge for putting her cat down when it didn't even make it past the sedative and she was still charged for euthanasia. It's WRONG and very unbecoming of a business that is in business to help people with their sick animals. Not to mention they are coming after a elderly woman on a fixed income who along with her bank thought the charges were bonkers. I will NOT be back to this establishment and a urge anyone in the community to do the same. While I understand this is a business, a business doesn't stay open long after they screw people over by charging them for things they didn't do. This all should have been addressed over the phone. Not once did my mother hear that it would be an emergency because she missed her appt, she was told to come in later that day. What is wrong with y'all, I hope you feel wonderful about taking some little old lady to court over a bogus 146$ charge. I'm starting to wonder now if her 17 week old cat could have been saved and the vet was just negligent, maybe we should counter sue. Leave my mother alone and just deal with your wrong on your end
Feb 14, 2025 · Crystal BallardWe had a good visit, no waiting, no problems, good vet, good staff all the way around. We'll be back for our veterinary needs.
