Since Dr Detora is no longer there this place is more interested in billing than taking care of your pet. If your pet is ever in distress they will refuse to see you again and will also be quick to report you to Animal Control even if you are searching for treatment for your pet. The vet/s seem very disinterested. I have read other bad reviews and they are spot on. Because they would not see our dog we found Overlook Veterinary Clinic who give Master care. They have the foresight and facility to deal with a lot. Hillside have never recommended anything to help our dogs or put forth any type of true care and compassion for the pet or their humans.

---
Hillside Veterinary Clinic is described as an independent, woman-owned practice, established in 1980. The clinic operates with a focus on providing compassionate care. The team, which includes veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians, emphasizes building strong relationships with clients and their pets. While individual experiences may vary, some clients have noted a positive environment where staff are understanding and work to reduce pet stress during visits, particularly for anxious animals. The clinic strives to create a comfortable setting, prioritizing patient well-being during treatments.
The facility itself is equipped to handle various diagnostic needs. It houses a state-of-the-art blood chemistry analyzer and digital radiography, allowing for quick evaluation of internal issues. They also offer ultrasound services, utilizing veterinary ultrasound specialists who visit the clinic to perform these procedures. This in-house diagnostic capability is a key feature, enabling timely and accurate results to guide treatment plans.
---
Hillside Veterinary Clinic offers a broad spectrum of services designed to address the diverse health needs of pets throughout their lives. These services fall under the general category of a "Pet Hospital," signifying their capability to provide both routine and more advanced medical care.
-
Wellness Exams & Vaccinations: The clinic strongly recommends annual comprehensive physical exams for pets to ensure they receive the best medical attention and are up-to-date on appropriate vaccinations for optimal health. During these exams, all aspects of a pet's health are addressed and discussed with the owner. The focus is on preventive care to maintain health across all life stages.
-
Veterinary Dentistry: Dental disease is a common and preventable issue in pets. Hillside Veterinary Clinic offers regular dental exams and cleanings as a preventative measure. They also provide a unique 7-step professional teeth cleaning service that can be performed without anesthesia, offering an alternative for pet owners. This non-anesthesia option is typically available on specific days each month and requires advance scheduling.
-
Laboratory & Radiography: Beyond the in-house blood chemistry analyzer and digital radiography, the clinic offers advanced imaging services. This includes digital radiographs for evaluating bones, joints, and internal structures, as well as abdominal ultrasounds to assess organs within the abdominal cavity. They also provide echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) services for evaluating heart function and structure.
-
Veterinary Surgery: Hillside Veterinary Clinic provides a variety of surgical services. These include common procedures like spay and neuter, mass removals, and other soft tissue surgeries when medically necessary. Their skilled veterinarians adhere to high standards of care for all surgical procedures, with an emphasis on pain management to ensure pet safety and comfort. They aim to provide comprehensive surgical solutions tailored to individual patient needs.
-
Exotic Medicine & Surgery: The clinic extends its comprehensive exam and surgical services to a wide variety of small mammals, pocket pets, birds, and reptiles. Their team is experienced in the unique anatomy and medical needs of these species, offering tailored care, including spay and neuter procedures and mass removals for exotic companions.
-
Hospitalization: For pets requiring more intensive care, Hillside Veterinary Clinic offers hospitalization. During their stay, pets receive daily meals, monitoring, and safety. The trained staff communicates directly with owners about their pet's progress, and owners are encouraged to visit during designated hours.
-
Pharmacy: The clinic maintains a full line of medications for pets, including vitamin and mineral supplements, shampoos, flea and tick control, and heartworm medication. They also offer prescription medications and have an online pharmacy for convenient refills, typically requiring 48 hours for processing.
-
Emergency Services: While Hillside Veterinary Clinic provides primary care, for after-hours emergencies or specific critical situations, they refer to external emergency facilities. These include Tufts Foster Hospital for Small Animals for 24/7 emergency care, Pet Poison Helpline for toxic substance ingestion, and Veterinary Urgent Care – Worcester for minor after-hours or limited urgent needs.
---
One of the key features highlighted by the clinic is its long-standing presence in the community, having been established in 1980. As a veterinarian-owned and operated practice, led by a local veterinarian, they emphasize a commitment to personalized service and treating each pet like family. This independent status allows them to prioritize compassionate care and quality medicine, fostering lasting relationships with clients. The clinic is also open to accepting new clients.
While the goal is to provide exceptional care, it is important to acknowledge that client experiences can differ. Some past feedback indicates concerns regarding billing practices and the perceived level of interest from veterinarians, particularly following changes in staff. Conversely, other clients have expressed significant appreciation for the staff's understanding and efforts to reduce pet stress during visits, highlighting one-on-one attention to needs.
---
Hillside Veterinary Clinic periodically offers promotions to assist pet owners with the cost of care. For instance, they have been known to offer savings on heartworm, flea, and tick medications for a limited time. They also provide an upgraded online store for easier ordering of pet food and medicine, which includes features like quick and easy registration, linked pet records and prescriptions, and opportunities for AutoShip discounts and promotions on popular products. The clinic also accepts pet insurance for unexpected accidents and illnesses, and for existing medical conditions, they may work with financing solutions like CareCredit and Scratchpay to help manage costs over time. Clients are encouraged to check with the clinic directly for current promotions and accepted payment options.

Apr 08, 2025 · Abigail BaezI took my cat in today for her annual exam. She gets so scared when she has to go that she makes herself sick (hyperventilating, shaking, drooling). The staff were great and really helped to reduce the usual trauma! They were very understanding and worked with us to help reduce her stress level. We both really appreciated the one on one attention to our needs.
Feb 19, 2025 · Sandi CarlsonWe brought our animals here for years. We had to stop and move somewhere else due to the almost constant change of owners and the disrespect from the staff. I recently had a family member (who was still going there) go through a disheartening experience and was berated due to her honest review. I urge anyone thinking of going here to reconsider. Money is more important to them than the welfare of the animals and community. I also had a family member have to move to a different practice because he dog didn’t do well with vaccines, and they wouldn’t allow her in the room with him to keep him calm. They severely overmedicated the dog for vet visits and showed gross misconduct in their practices. Seek other vets!
Dec 22, 2024 · Kellie Foley-FosterI've been coming here for years. I trust them completely with the lives and welfare of all my furbabies. The entire staff is fantastic!!
