This is how our dogs end up after boarding at Hill Country! They love it so much. The added benefit of being the best vet in Austin is the platinum lining. We always know our babies are well taken care of and cared for. Oh yeah, their store is better than most online retailers for flea meds and such! Just a great place overall. Thank you all!

Dr. Bell and her assistants have always given superb service to our pets, with loving care and concern. Dr. Bell and an assistant came to our home yesterday to put our 22 year old precious cat to sleep. They were so gentle and kind to us and our cat. We will certainly return to Hill Country Vet as necessary for our two dogs.

I have been really pleased with the care my pup has received at Hill Country Animal Hospital. I have seen a few different doctors within their clinic and each one has been kind, thorough and offered realistic solutions. The techs are awesome too and do a great job gathering initial info for the doctor and putting nervous pups at ease. I am confident in all levels of care the clinic offers from routine check ups and vaccinations to treating acute illnesses.

I brought my dog into Hillcountry Tuesday morning at 8 AM because in the last 48 hours, my dog was unable to walk or go to the bathroom, couldn’t keep any of his food down, vomiting up water and his breathing was labored. By 3:30pm . I still had not heard from the doctor so I decided to show up at the office and sit in the waiting room. At 4:15 the nurse carried my dog out into the waiting room - by the way which has a constant stream of people coming and going with their dogs and perpetually loud music blaring in the background. The nurse brings out my dog, places him down next to my feet and continues to discuss three or four different medications the Dr is prescribing. Antibiotics for his pneumonia anti-nausea medicine, etc. The nurse spent 10 minutes discussing the medications all the while I’m looking at her in complete disbelief thinking why are you prescribing meds - we’re way past medication! 15 minutes later the Veterinarian finally comes to talk to me. She plops down on the floor and begins to go over, a handful of problems that my dog seems to currently have. She is discussing various illnesses that it “could“ be. She’s discussing pneumonia and in detail what happens to the esophagus and what she believes is neurologically going on, that he can no longer walk, and that it took them a long time to get him to defecate and urinate. At NO POINT in this conversation did the Dr or nurse give me any indication that death was imminent and probably within the next 12 hours. If a human had presented with these problems, any doctor would have told the family to gather around and say their goodbyes. While I’m sobbing in the waiting room and listening to the Dr , I’m unable to concentrate because of the music in the background, the steady stream of people listening to our conversation, the buzz of the receptionist desk, hyper dogs barking and nobody has any regard that I am sitting there with my dog that’s clearly dying while tears stream down my face. I am completely baffled that a veterinarian office can be around as long as they’ve been around that has no protocol for a dog that’s close to dying. They let my dog sit on the floor in a corner on the last full day of his life without telling me that he is probably going to die within the next day. There is absolutely NO reason why a Veterinarian should not know the signs that death is eminent. The following morning once I took my dog home and I refused to take the medication home with me, knowing that my dog was probably going to die. I texted a video of his breathing at 9 am the next morning. The nurse replied with appropriate concern that his lungs appeared aspirated and that I should probably bring him into the clinic to put him down. I said thank and that’s probably a good idea. He passed away in my arms 15 minutes later. I then texted the office to say he had passed away and they NEVER responded back to me - NO ONE texted and NO one called me. So to have the end of your dogs life clouded by poor judgment, ungraceful manners and zero empathy makes your dogs death all the more horrible to bear and completely traumatic. My judgment was I knew he was dying, but because the veterinarian did not validate and acknowledge my feelings maybe I thought that I was wrong and that my dog would not die the following morning. When the veterinarian finally came out at 4:15 pm, 8 hours after I had dropped my dog off thenDr. didn’t even know the name of the neurological disease that my dog had suffered from for the past several years because she didn’t read his prior chart. Obviously I will be finding a new veterinarian, Today I received flowers from several friends, but what blew my mind was I received flowers from my local pet store Tomlinson’s with a note that read the following “ We’re so sorry to hear of Yeti’s passing Over The Rainbow Bridge. We share your greif and are grateful to have been part of your pups story. - Your friends at Tomlinsons If anyone can recommend a caring Vet please respond

I had to wait 40 minutes after my appointment time to see the vet. I went in to get a simple $35 rabies shot for My dog and they tried to upsell me to $491 in things he didn’t need. They did give him the $35 rabies shot but then charged me an additional $69 because the vet walked into the room and did absolutely nothing. This place used to be my favorite place to take my dog, but now it’s just crazy expensive with bad service. We will be looking for new A new vet.
