Welcome to Highland Animal Hospital
Highland Animal Hospital, situated at 14 Gertrude Dr, Central Square, NY 13036, USA, is a well-established and highly-regarded "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary care for beloved companion animals. Operating since 1995, this clinic has built a strong reputation for its comprehensive services, professional staff, and a deep commitment to the well-being of its animal patients and their human families. The hospital prides itself on offering a wide range of services and goods designed to meet the diverse health needs of pets throughout their lives.
The environment at Highland Animal Hospital is frequently praised by clients for being "spacious, clean & extremely well run." This positive feedback suggests a facility that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also thoughtfully designed to ensure comfort and efficiency. A clean and organized environment is crucial in a veterinary setting, as it contributes to a calm atmosphere for anxious pets and helps prevent the spread of illness. While specific details about the interior design are not widely publicized, the recurring themes in reviews point to a welcoming and professional atmosphere from the moment a client steps through the door, from the reception desk to the examination rooms. The hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment technologies to support its full spectrum of services, ensuring that pets receive up-to-date and effective medical care.
Highland Animal Hospital offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, addressing both preventive care and treatment for various health issues. Their core services begin with preventative care, emphasizing routine annual physical exams for pets of all ages. These wellness visits are vital for early detection of potential problems, allowing for timely intervention before conditions become severe or costly. Vaccinations are a fundamental part of their preventive approach, protecting pets from a range of serious diseases. They offer essential vaccinations for both cats (FVRCP, Rabies, Feline Leukemia) and dogs (Distemper/Parvo (DA2PP), Rabies, Bordetella, Lyme, Leptospirosis), adhering to recommended schedules for puppies and kittens. Microchipping services are also available, providing a crucial form of permanent identification to help reunite lost pets with their owners.
Beyond preventative care, Highland Animal Hospital excels in diagnostic capabilities. They utilize an in-house laboratory for quick and accurate results on blood, urine, feces, and biopsied tissue tests, which is essential for prompt diagnosis and treatment. They also employ digital X-ray technology for examining bones, organs, and identifying foreign bodies or other internal issues. For more complex testing or second opinions, they maintain collaborative relationships with external veterinary reference laboratories and specialists, such as the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Surgical services are a significant offering, ranging from routine spaying and neutering to emergency interventions and other soft tissue surgeries. Pet dental services are also a priority, with treatments aimed at preventing and addressing dental disease, plaque buildup, and other oral health concerns, recognizing their impact on a pet's overall health.
In addition to these essential services, Highland Animal Hospital provides specialized care. They offer complementary therapies such as laser therapy, a popular non-invasive treatment that can aid in pain management, wound healing, and alleviation of discomfort from conditions like arthritis. Dedicated care programs are available for both young pets, through comprehensive puppy and kitten care, and for senior pets, addressing the unique health challenges associated with aging. While not explicitly detailed, the breadth of their diagnostic tools suggests capabilities to handle a wide array of internal medicine cases. The facility's commitment to continuous improvement is evident in their stated goal to stay up-to-date on the most recent developments in the veterinary field.
The defining feature of Highland Animal Hospital, as highlighted in numerous customer reviews, is the exceptional quality of its staff and veterinarians. Clients consistently praise the "utmost professionalism" from the reception desk to the vets themselves. Terms like "wonderful," "caring," "kind," "understanding," and "amazing" are frequently used to describe the team. Dr. Dick (presumably a referring doctor, though the provided information doesn't specify which one is at this exact location, the reviews strongly suggest a highly regarded veterinarian) and other veterinarians are commended for their thoroughness, ability to explain conditions and treatments clearly, and their genuine compassion for the animals. The staff is noted for their patience, even with difficult or anxious pets, and their willingness to go "above and beyond" to ensure pet comfort and safety. This personalized and empathetic approach fosters a strong sense of trust and makes clients feel that their pets are truly part of the "Highland Animal Hospital family."
Regarding promotional information, Highland Animal Hospital, like many modern veterinary practices, offers several avenues for client convenience and potential cost savings. While specific, time-sensitive promotions are best confirmed by contacting the hospital directly, they do offer an online pharmacy service, which can provide "quick, easy access to treatment" including new prescriptions and refills 24/7. This often comes with benefits like competitive pricing and potential savings through online rebates or auto-ship programs. They also accept various payment options including major credit cards, and often work with financing solutions like CareCredit, which helps pet owners manage unexpected veterinary expenses. Furthermore, Highland Animal Hospital supports pet insurance, encouraging clients to explore coverage to mitigate costs associated with accidents and illnesses. Some pet insurance providers also offer "wellness plans" which can help cover routine care expenses. New clients are welcomed and can often expedite their first visit by completing a new patient form online prior to their appointment. These provisions collectively aim to make quality veterinary care accessible and manageable for pet owners in the Central Square community.

Apr 17, 2025 · Joan MartinToday was my dog’s first visit. The building and amenities are great. The pricing is fair and the vet was fantastic.
Dec 11, 2024 · AlanaAfter over 26 years with the same Vet, it sadly came time to find another. After a lot of research, I made an appointment for my two newly adopted cats at Highland Animal Hospital. From the very first phone call, I knew I found the right place. Everyone I have encountered has been nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Donnelly is absolutely wonderful. I left knowing that my pets will always have the best care, whether it’s for a wellness exam or illness. I never thought I would find a Vet like the one I’ve had for so many years, until I found Highland Animal Hospital. Thank you.
Jan 24, 2025 · Ann ParkThe technicians, the staff, the veterinarians are all amazing. We've been coming here for about a year and have no complaints. They're always extremely helpful and caring with our pets.
Jan 22, 2025 · Aubrey AmbrosioTheir new building is beautiful and very clean. My dog has visited twice within the year for quills. Besides his normal appointments. I called first thing in the morning and both times they were able to get him right in with no issues. My dog has bad anxiety and yet didn’t turn my 100 pound German Shepherd down. All quills were removed and no issues. They will call you back when they say they will and always follow up on your pet excellent service.
