My new kitten Amir had his neuter done at High Country Vet. Dr Moses did a wonderful job and he healed so fast. I was worried with the weekend coming up but my concerns were addressed so I was comfortable. Amir did fine and didn’t need anything over the weekend but It was good to be prepared just in case. Thank you for taking care of my little boy Amir.

This holistic approach, combined with a focus on affordability, aims to make top-quality veterinary care accessible to a broad spectrum of the community.

Environment and Facilities

High Country Veterinary Hospital is designed to provide a welcoming and efficient environment for both pets and their owners. While specific architectural details might not be publicly emphasized, a full-service veterinary hospital typically features a clean, well-organized reception area, comfortable waiting spaces, multiple examination rooms, a dedicated surgical suite, diagnostic imaging areas (for X-rays and ultrasounds), and an in-house laboratory and pharmacy. These facilities are crucial for supporting the wide range of services offered, allowing for rapid diagnosis and immediate treatment when necessary.

The environment is generally managed to reduce stress for animal patients, with staff trained to handle pets gently and compassionately. The presence of an in-house lab and pharmacy significantly contributes to the hospital's efficiency, allowing for quick processing of blood tests, urinalysis, and other diagnostics, as well as immediate dispensing of necessary medications. This integration ensures that pets receive timely care and owners benefit from the convenience of on-site services.

Services Offered

High Country Veterinary Hospital prides itself on offering a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, designed to address nearly every aspect of a pet's health throughout its life. These services include:

  • Routine Check-ups and Exams: Essential for preventative care, these annual visits help monitor a pet's overall health and detect potential issues early.
  • Vaccinations: Providing core and lifestyle-dependent vaccinations to protect pets from common and serious diseases.
  • Dental Cleanings and Extractions: Comprehensive dental care, crucial for a pet's overall health, including professional cleanings under anesthesia and extractions when necessary.

  • Radiology and Ultrasounds: Advanced diagnostic imaging to help identify internal conditions, orthopedic issues, and other medical concerns.
  • In-House Lab and Pharmacy: On-site capabilities for rapid diagnostic testing and immediate dispensing of a wide range of prescription medications and specialized pet foods, enhancing efficiency and convenience.
  • Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency clinic, they are equipped to handle urgent care needs during their operating hours, providing timely attention to pets requiring immediate medical intervention.
  • Health Certificates and FAVN Testing: Services necessary for pet travel, including international travel, demonstrating their ability to provide specialized administrative veterinary services.
  • End-of-Life Care and Cremation Services: Offering compassionate support and services during difficult times, providing a dignified farewell for beloved pets.
  • Exotic Pet Care: A notable feature is their ability to treat a wide variety of pets beyond just dogs and cats, including "pocket pets" and other exotic animals, which is a specialized area of veterinary medicine not offered by all clinics.
Features and Staff Expertise

High Country Veterinary Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features, most notably the expertise and compassionate approach of its staff. Dr. Moses, a licensed and experienced veterinarian, is highlighted in customer reviews for doing a "wonderful job" with surgical procedures, such as a neuter on a kitten, with the pet healing "so fast." This specific praise indicates proficiency in surgical techniques and a caring follow-up that alleviates owner concerns. The readiness to address concerns about post-operative care, even for a weekend, underscores their commitment to client education and peace of mind.

Another significant feature is their willingness and capability to treat "animals that others won't," as exemplified by the case of the wild finch. While this particular instance had a somber outcome, the customer's appreciation for their "wide array of treatment," willingness to see a wild bird, and "quick diagnosis" speaks to the hospital's broad scope of practice and compassionate approach even in challenging situations. The ability to handle diverse species, from common household pets to exotic animals, showcases a specialized skill set and dedication to animal welfare that goes beyond typical veterinary offerings.

The positive feedback, even amidst difficult decisions, reflects a transparent and honest communication style, even if it leads to emotionally challenging conclusions. The emphasis on "affordable pricing" despite offering "top-quality veterinary care" makes them a compelling choice for many pet owners.

Promotional Information and Accessibility

High Country Veterinary Hospital actively promotes its services to new and existing clients. While specific ongoing promotions may vary, veterinary hospitals often offer incentives such as:

  • Seasonal Health Campaigns: Promotions for vaccinations, parasite prevention, or dental cleanings during specific times of the year.
  • Spay/Neuter Specials: Discounted rates for these essential procedures, which are often highlighted to encourage responsible pet ownership.

I'm really greatful for their wide array of treatment! I found the sweetest little wild finch ♡ I couldn't find anywhere to get him treatment until this office. Unfortunately they said he was really old with cataracts & absesses behind his eyes. So they were going to euthanize him 💔 4 stars because I feel like i drove him to his death & it's hard sometimes to take someone's observation at face value with no prior trust established. As well as when an animal is old I am skeptical if offices give them minimalistic treatment options versus a baby. 🤷‍♀️ but that is my own issue & skepticism. Could be a great doc. I had no idea what to do with a wild bird anyway. So I appreciate their services & quick diagnosis. I hope you keep treating the animals that others won't! Thank you!

The Vet and staff are the best! Valkyrie was greeted by name and received some loving. The Vet was very compassionate and gave me all the needed info to care for my Valkyrie.

Not stoked. A few months back I took my dog to inquire about a cracked canine and a lipoma. The first vet I saw told me the tooth was a non issue and the lipoma wasn’t a lipoma— it was muscle. She compared it being left or right handed and that Lou “just used his right side more”. It was such bogus reasoning, but it was end of day and rather than argue, my takeaway was that it was a non issue, as it was obvious that she didn’t want to deal. I had to take him back in for a shot a monthish later, and saw a different vet. She was a sweetie. I brought the tooth and lipoma up again. That vet said the tooth needed out and that we could address the lipoma at the same time. I was quoted a range from $924.85 to $1014.85 with the plan to schedule when we were back in town. Less than a month later I called to schedule and was told they had “possibly” raised prices and would see if they could honor it. I get called back and told they actually didn’t raise prices but that the estimate was incorrect and that they would send me a new one (???). I was then sent MULTIPLE over the course of a few weeks. The next quote priced a dental and extraction at $1152 to 1242, and then I received ANOTHER for $1220 to $1400. Although kind, the staff gives chickens running around with their heads cut off. There is no communication. I somehow felt both dismissed and simultaneously taken advantage of. Lou is now being seen at Bijou Animal Hospital and was immediately scheduled for the same procedure (plus some) for a total of $820 ($100 less than the minimum quote high country gave me). I can’t recommend Bijou enough.

It is sad what this place has become. They are more concerned with bringing on new clients that they don't care to take care of clients and pets that have been going there for years. It is impossible to get an appointment even for an emergency. In fact we had one and they referred us to somewhere else. When we were finally able to get an appointment for shots and a check up, they canceled it because it is going to be cold. COLD!? This Colorado! What a joke. Response: So poor customer service on your part plus a bad review on my part equals abusive behavior? Yes, this vet just emailed us and told us we whare no longer welcome because of my review. I also don't appreciate you putting my last name in this response. Just shows how unprofessional the staff is here.
