I took my French bulldog here to determine if she was pregnant. On date of visit 3/19 I paid 126 dollars for initial visit and x-ray. When scheduling said appointment I told the receptionist that date of conception would be 2/26-2/29. She said no problem, we will do an X-ray to determine if she is or not. After doing x ray I was told the vet (Dr Jennifer Barton Comte) couldn't see anything due to how much food and fecal matter was in her system and that it was a psuedo pregnancy. (Which was my first red flag because how do you know it's a false pregnancy if you're telling me you can't see anything to begin with) I was told by vet that I needed to bring my dog back after fasting her to get a better look to make sure, which would have cost me more money. I stated I wasn't paying for a second x ray when I wasn't told to fast her to begin with. They said "no worries, no charge bring her back tomorrow morning" The next morning (after not feeding her from 9pm previous night) I brought her back to heartland vet clinic to see the same vet and was told after x raying her for a second time that it was in fact a psuedo pregnancy. Something about her not even being hardly 3 weeks and the whole situation didn't set right with me so I did a little research and called three other vets from Farmington to St Louis. All stated that an x ray could not be used to determine pregnancy until at least 45-50 days after getting stuck to male. That x rays are only used to determine how many puppies based off skeleton count which puppies have not even closely developed at barely 3 weeks. I immediately called heartland back to request a refund. I was very upset that not only did they diagnose my dog with fake pregnancy but that they didn't even determine the pregnancy correctly. I was told they had no other way or means (lacked proper equipment) to even test her properly. That an x ray was the only way to test. I stated that those can't even be done until the 45-50 day mark so they took my money and pay knowing there was no way to tell me anything. The receptionist told me she'd have the vet call me back personally. The vet called back two hours later, I stated the same thing to her as I did to the receptionist. Vet told me she could still tell if the uterus was distended on an x ray. I asked if she was able to tell that this early and instead of answering me she said "I can offer you a free x ray at a later date" I said "no thank you I would just like the money back so I can see a different vet in a couple weeks" I received the refund 2 days later. After speaking with another vet in the area they told me the only ways to determine pregnancy before 50 days was an ultrasound and hormone testing. Most accurate after 4 weeks. That while psuedo pregnancy is common proper evaluation to determine this is to rule out real pregnancy which means hormone testing and ultrasound. We received neither from heartland. Thanks to a different vet we now know our Frenchie is in fact pregnant. While we did receive our money back I'm writing this review to hopefully get a more accurate read on stars/rating. The reason I scheduled with heartland is because they had the best rating.

I'm new to the area and my 7yr old 13 pound girl Chi/pom mix had a tooth hanging on by skin bottom front, I wasn't sure if she got hurt and pulled it and that was part jaw it from tooth decay, I was very pleased with the low cost first time office visit and got her nails trimmed while we were there. They are so wonderful and caring, you can't go wrong choosing them.

I liked going to this vet because it was close to me and they seemed to always get me in when I needed to. And while the staff has been great all three times I’ve been there, it is the vet that I have the issues with. The last time I came in, my cat had an abscess or bursted anal gland (I still don’t know for sure because she never actually looked and told me). The vet came in and I expected for her to check his ears and teeth as they always do and then to check his bottom. With help, ai expected her to clean and express his anal glands and she literally lifted up his tail and leaned over so she could get a glimpse. She prescribed antibiotics and a pain shot and said goodbye. I even asked her if she was going to clean it and she said it was clean already which I knew was not true. 7 days later, after the antibiotics were done, he’s still crying and acting like he’s in pain. I finally get him to let me shave a bit of his bottom and ended up pulling a huge mass of matted hair off of his bottom that was covering a sore up but it was closed by now. He’s still crying and I’m sure it is because he needs his anal glands expressed which is what every website said should’ve happened first at the vets office. AFTER it was cleaned. I paid $150 for her to do absolutely nothing. And the worst part was that it didn’t help my cat so now I have to Do it all over again. Because I have the extra time for that and all. Pfft.
