My Shepadoodle had two spots on his leg that he had been licking and biting until they bled. My vet’s office just does well care visits and had no opening for a few weeks, really! The week before I took his sister to the emergency clinic out by the airport for a cut. I paid more than $700 to have it treated, ridiculous. So, I had to find a vet that could treat him as a non-emergency. Heartland did a great job. He had been there before and they got him in right away and examined him. We left with the medication all for less than $100. Great place to bring your pets.

They can be reached via phone at (319) 366-7146 or mobile at +1 319-366-7146. The hospital distinguishes itself by offering comprehensive veterinary care with a strong emphasis on compassionate service, accessibility for urgent (non-emergency) cases, and fair pricing, as consistently praised by their clientele.
The environment at Heartland Animal Hospital Cedar Rapids is consistently described as "very clean" and welcoming. This focus on cleanliness is crucial for a healthcare facility, ensuring a hygienic space for both pets and their owners. Clients also appreciate the "super close parking spaces," indicating a convenient and accessible location, which reduces stress upon arrival, especially with a sick or anxious pet. While specific details of the interior layout are not provided in the reviews, a full-service animal hospital typically features a comfortable reception area, well-equipped examination rooms, and dedicated spaces for diagnostics, surgical procedures, and hospitalization. The positive sentiment from clients about the "nice and warm" treatment of their dogs suggests an atmosphere designed to be calming and reassuring for animals, with staff who actively engage with pets to make their visit as pleasant as possible. This includes providing "plenty of hugs and kisses," which speaks to a genuinely caring environment.
As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," Heartland Animal Hospital Cedar Rapids provides a broad spectrum of veterinary services, addressing both routine preventative care and more urgent medical needs for companion animals, primarily dogs and cats. Their services likely include:
- General Wellness and Preventative Care: This forms the cornerstone of their practice, encompassing routine annual check-ups, tailored vaccination programs (e.g., for rabies, distemper, parvovirus), microchipping for identification, and comprehensive parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworm). They focus on proactive measures to maintain long-term pet health.
- Urgent Care (Non-Emergency): A significant feature highlighted by reviews is their ability to accommodate urgent, non-emergency cases quickly. One reviewer noted they "got him in right away and examined him" for a bleeding skin issue when their regular vet had a long wait. This demonstrates their capacity to address immediate health concerns that are not life-threatening but require prompt attention.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries, the hospital would be equipped with various diagnostic tools. This typically includes in-house laboratory services for rapid blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. They would also likely offer digital radiography (X-rays) for bone and soft tissue imaging.
- Treatment for Illnesses and Injuries: The hospital provides medical treatment for a wide range of conditions, from skin issues (like the "two spots on his leg" mentioned in a review) to general illnesses. They prescribe necessary medications and develop treatment plans.
- Surgical Procedures: While not explicitly detailed in these reviews, a full-service animal hospital usually performs common surgical procedures such as spaying, neutering, and various soft tissue surgeries.
- Dental Care: Although not mentioned in these specific reviews, comprehensive dental services are a standard offering at most full-service pet hospitals.
- Pharmacy Services: An in-house pharmacy for dispensing prescribed medications, ensuring convenient and immediate access to necessary treatments.
- Follow-up Care: The clinic is noted for its proactive "follow up with a call to make sure everything is going fine with the pup," which demonstrates a commitment to continuity of care and client peace of mind.
Heartland Animal Hospital Cedar Rapids possesses several key features that set it apart and contribute to its strong reputation:
- Exceptional Compassion and Pet Comfort: A dominant theme in the reviews is the staff's genuine warmth and kindness towards animals. The phrase "my dogs love to go to the vet because they are so nice and warm with them" and "they make sure the doggies don't suffer" indicates a deep commitment to minimizing pet stress and fear during visits. This focus on positive experiences for the animal is invaluable for pet owners.
- Accessibility for Urgent Cases: Their ability to get pets in "right away" for non-emergency but urgent issues is a significant advantage, particularly when other clinics have long wait times. This fills a crucial gap between routine wellness and emergency care.
- Fair and Transparent Pricing: Clients consistently praise the "fair prices" and the assurance that "you will not go bankrupt because you want to keep your pets healthy." This commitment to affordability, especially contrasted with the high cost of emergency clinics mentioned in one review, makes them a highly attractive option for many pet owners.
- Professional and Friendly Staff: The "receptionist is always super nice," and the staff are universally described as "great guys," "prompt," and communicative. This positive human interaction enhances the overall client experience.
- Proactive Follow-up: The practice of making follow-up calls demonstrates a dedication to patient recovery and client satisfaction, fostering trust and showing genuine care beyond the initial visit.
- Clean and Convenient Location: The emphasis on a "very clean office" and "super close parking spaces" speaks to a well-maintained and easily accessible facility, contributing to a hassle-free visit.

Oct 25, 2024 · JoAnn WinkieI love this guy's, my dogs love to go to the vet because they are so nice and warm with them. They make sure the doggies don't suffer while they are visiting the place and there are plenty of hugs and kisses for them. Everyone they have been sick, the vet is promptly to see them and they accommodate the pup if an emergency as the one we had. They even follow up with a call to make sure everything is going fine with the pup. I also like the location, plenty of super close parking spaces. The office is very clean and the receptionist is always super nice . Prices are fair, you can make sure you will not go bankrupt because you want to keep your pets healthy.
