Dr. Emily and team are absolutely wonderful! We needed to establish care for my cat, Ajax, and there were so many options! But I’m happy I read reviews and chose Healthy Pet Altoona. They truly do care about your pet’s wellbeing and the prices are absolutely fair and they’re upfront about everything!

Healthy Pet Altoona Introduce

Welcome to the introduction of Healthy Pet Altoona, a local establishment categorized as a Pet Hospital, dedicated to providing veterinary care and potentially related goods for sale to pet owners in Altoona, Eau Claire, Wisconsin (WI), and the surrounding areas. This introduction aims to provide local users with detailed information about Healthy Pet Altoona, drawing upon available information to offer an objective overview. Please note that the information presented here is based on the details provided and may reflect past circumstances.

Please be advised that recent customer feedback indicates significant operational changes at Healthy Pet Altoona, including reported closures and lack of on-site veterinary staff. This information is crucial for local users seeking immediate or ongoing veterinary care and should be considered alongside any positive historical aspects mentioned below. It is strongly recommended to verify the current operational status and availability of services directly with Healthy Pet Altoona before making any decisions regarding your pet's care.

Based on earlier customer experiences, Healthy Pet Altoona was described as a veterinary clinic where pet owners felt their animals received genuine care. One review highlighted the positive experience of establishing care for a cat named Ajax, emphasizing the perceived care for the pet's wellbeing, fair pricing, and transparent communication. This suggests that historically, Healthy Pet Altoona aimed to create a welcoming and trustworthy environment for both pets and their owners.

The physical environment of a pet hospital plays a crucial role in the comfort and well-being of visiting animals. While specific details about the clinic's ambiance, facilities, and equipment are not explicitly provided, a positive customer experience often implies a clean, organized, and adequately equipped setting conducive to providing quality veterinary care. A comfortable waiting area, well-equipped examination rooms, and potentially on-site diagnostic capabilities (like X-ray or laboratory services) are typical features of a comprehensive pet hospital. However, in light of recent feedback, the current state of these facilities and their operational status should be independently verified.

The core of any Pet Hospital lies in the services it offers. Traditionally, Healthy Pet Altoona likely provided a range of veterinary services to address the health needs of pets. These services commonly include:

  • Wellness Exams and Preventative Care: Regular check-ups are essential for maintaining a pet's health, including vaccinations, parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworms), and nutritional counseling. The positive review mentioning an "annual physical" indicates this was a service previously offered.
  • Diagnostic Services: To identify and understand health issues, a pet hospital often provides diagnostic tools such as blood tests, urine analysis, fecal exams, and imaging techniques like X-rays. The later negative review mentions a lack of proper assessment, suggesting potential past availability of such services.
  • Treatment of Illnesses and Injuries: Addressing acute and chronic health conditions, infections, injuries, and other medical concerns is a primary function of a veterinary clinic.
  • Surgery: Many pet hospitals offer surgical procedures, ranging from routine spay and neuter surgeries to more complex soft tissue or orthopedic surgeries. The provided information does not explicitly confirm surgical capabilities, but it is a common service in comprehensive pet hospitals.
  • Dental Care: Maintaining oral health is vital for pets. Services often include teeth cleaning, dental examinations, and treatment of dental diseases.
  • Prescription Medications and Supplies: Pet hospitals often dispense prescription medications and recommend specialized diets or other health-related products. The negative review mentions expiring prescriptions and the need for a renewed kidney diet food prescription, indicating this was a previous service.
  • Emergency Care: Some pet hospitals offer emergency services during their operating hours or have arrangements for after-hours emergencies. The provided information does not specify if Healthy Pet Altoona offered dedicated emergency services.

The features that set a Pet Hospital apart often relate to the quality of care, the expertise of the veterinary team, the use of advanced technology, and the overall client experience. The initial positive review highlighted the caring nature of "Dr. Emily and team," suggesting that personalized attention and a compassionate approach were once key features of Healthy Pet Altoona. The mention of "upfront" pricing also indicates a commitment to transparency, which can build trust with pet owners.

However, the subsequent negative review paints a drastically different picture. The reported random closure, lack of a vet on staff, forgotten appointments, missed medication renewals, and a perceived lack of thorough assessment during a recent visit raise serious concerns about the current features and quality of care at Healthy Pet Altoona. The departure of Dr. Emily was specifically mentioned as a significant loss.

Promotional information is typically used to attract new clients and inform existing ones about special offers or services. The provided information does not include any specific promotional details. However, in the past, a Pet Hospital like Healthy Pet Altoona might have engaged in promotions such as discounts on initial wellness exams, seasonal specials on flea and tick prevention, or educational events for pet owners. Given the recent negative feedback regarding operational issues, it is unclear if any promotions are currently being offered or are advisable without significant improvements in service reliability.

In conclusion, based on the information available, Healthy Pet Altoona was previously perceived by at least one customer as a wonderful veterinary clinic with a caring team and fair prices. However, recent feedback indicates severe operational problems, including reported closures, lack of veterinary staff, and significant lapses in patient care. Local users seeking veterinary services are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and independently verify the current status and service availability of Healthy Pet Altoona before entrusting them with their pet's health. It is recommended to seek alternative veterinary care options in the Eau Claire and Altoona areas until the operational status and quality of care at Healthy Pet Altoona can be reliably confirmed.

We used to consider Healthy Pet Altoona a 5-star veterinary clinic but to not find out that they’re randomly closing and no longer have a vet on staff when we reached out to schedule our pet’s annual physical and not back when they knew they were going to abandon patients was a complete shock to us. It has been frustrating to deal with the fall out of this over the past month with life stressors occurring while trying to scramble to find a new vet and our pet’s rx’s all expiring and vaccines being needed. We ended up having to do her annual physical on one of the rare days that a vet-like-person was in the building. While we’ve always appreciated the techs, and we enjoyed Dr. Emily, our pet’s last visit here was messed up to say the least. Her appointment was set for 11am and we dropped her off in the morning and were told we would be called and could pick her up after her appointment. We gave them ample time to call us and let us know she was ready to be picked up but by 2pm we were beginning to worry and started calling. After finally getting a hold of someone, we were told that our pet’s visit had been delayed and that they’d call us when she was ready. By 4pm we still hadn’t heard back and my partner being tired of going back and forth on the phone and not getting anywhere went to the clinic to rescue our kid. He didn’t leave until 5ish because, he was told, that they forgot about our pet ALL DAY and were still doing her appt. She didn’t get lunch, thankfully she had water and litter access but we had to check to clarify that because of how thirsty she was acting when she got home after being “forgotten.” The vet told us to take her off medication that was helping her thyroid and had no real assessment about her possible arthritis in her leg. She didn’t get a renewed rx for her kidney diet food. We finally found a new vet and have had to schedule an appointment right away to basically go have a whole other annual physical done to get our pet the care she deserves and a second opinion. I have no clue what happened at this clinic but it was a loss when Dr. Emily left. I wish all the best to the techs/office staff who were usually so kind and on top of things, I’m not sure where they will be off to as this clinic continues to dismantle. Definitely a loss to the community.

I am DEVESTATED that Healthy Pets in Altoona is closing due to not having a vet. We love bringing our dogs there. The staff and service have always been amazing! I have always felt that they have had my pets best interest at heart and have never felt that they were charging out of the norm or giving my pet services they didnt need. Very trustworthy! PLEASE find a good vet so you can stay open :(

The staff is so welcoming and friendly. They were the only people that we brought our shy cat Lucy to see who she wasn't terrified of. She trusted them and they did so much to help her. Even at the end of her life they accommodated her despite a busy schedule. They were sweet and caring in helping our cat pass. She was comfortable and didn't feel any pain. We could tell she trusted them to give her the best care, even when helping her pass. They made the atmosphere so calm, had great relaxing music, a dim room, and we could barely hear any of the other many guests there at the time. Understanding of our complicated situation, Dr Emily Olund, Sam, and all the rest of the staff did everything they could to make us feel comfortable with what was happening. We never felt rushed, and we got to give the goodbye we wanted for our sweet little girl, Lucy.
