My cat Cora this year, had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer which was located in her mammary gland, we had to do back to back visits from blood work to surgery and I cannot thank Doctor Harris enough for the work and effort she’s put in. She is pretty much the only person I can trust to deal with Cora one on one especially since my cat can be extremely aggressive and won’t hesitate to scratch or bite. If you are looking for a vet that is affordable and reasonable with her pricing and cares for your animals as if they were her own, you should definitely consider Doctor Harris. Again I cannot thank her enough she is truly one of a kind.

Welcome to Harris Lori DVM
Dr. Lori Harris DVM, based at 17 Fox Ln, Commack, NY 11725, USA, offers a distinctive and highly valued approach to veterinary care, particularly noteworthy within the "Pet Hospital" category for her emphasis on house calls. This mobile model of care, reachable at (631) 462-2211 or +1 631-462-2211, provides a significant advantage for pet owners seeking personalized and stress-free veterinary services for their beloved animals. Instead of a traditional brick-and-mortar clinic, Dr. Harris brings professional veterinary expertise directly to your home, a service that prioritizes the comfort and well-being of pets and their owners.
Unlike conventional veterinary clinics, the primary "environment" for Dr. Lori Harris DVM's services is the pet's own home. This is a crucial distinguishing factor that offers numerous benefits. For many animals, particularly cats and anxious dogs, trips to a veterinary office can be incredibly stressful, involving car rides, unfamiliar smells, loud noises, and the presence of other animals. Dr. Harris’s house call model eliminates these stressors. The familiar surroundings of home allow pets to remain calm and at ease during examinations, vaccinations, and even more complex procedures. This tranquil environment can lead to more accurate assessments, as the animal is not exhibiting stress-induced behaviors that might mask true symptoms. For owners, the convenience of not having to transport a sick or elderly pet, or multiple pets, to a clinic is invaluable. This approach provides a private and comfortable setting for sensitive discussions, such as end-of-life care, allowing families to say goodbye to their beloved companions in a peaceful and familiar space.
Dr. Lori Harris DVM offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services, adapted to be delivered effectively in a home setting. While the extent of highly specialized procedures (like advanced imaging or complex surgeries that require a dedicated surgical suite) might necessitate referral to a stationary facility, her services cover a wide range of primary and advanced care needs:
-
General Wellness and Preventative Care: This includes routine physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite control (deworming, flea, and tick prevention), and nutritional counseling. Performing these services at home reduces stress for both pet and owner, making routine care more accessible and pleasant.
-
Diagnosis and Treatment of Illnesses: Dr. Harris can diagnose and initiate treatment for various ailments, from common infections and skin conditions to more complex internal medicine cases. This often involves thorough physical exams, blood work, and other diagnostic tests that can be performed on-site or sent to a lab.
-
Chronic Disease Management: For pets with ongoing health issues such as diabetes, arthritis, or kidney disease, Dr. Harris provides continuous care, monitoring, and medication management, ensuring consistent support for long-term health.
-
Geriatric Pet Care: As pets age, their needs change. Dr. Harris provides specialized care for senior pets, focusing on pain management, mobility issues, and maintaining quality of life.
-
Advanced Medical Procedures (as adaptable to home setting): As evidenced by a customer review, Dr. Harris is capable of handling serious conditions like aggressive cancer, performing necessary diagnostics like blood work and even coordinating follow-up care such as surgery. This suggests a strong network and the ability to manage complex cases from initial diagnosis to recovery.
-
Compassionate In-Home Euthanasia: This is a profoundly important service for many pet owners. As highlighted in a customer review, Dr. Harris provides this sensitive service with exceptional kindness and understanding. Performing euthanasia at home allows pets to pass peacefully in their most familiar surroundings, surrounded by their loved ones, minimizing anxiety for both the animal and the grieving family.

Affordable and Reasonable Pricing: A significant advantage for many pet owners, Dr. Harris is noted for being "affordable and reasonable with her pricing." This commitment to accessible care ensures that high-quality veterinary services are available without imposing undue financial burden, making her a preferred choice for many.
-
House Call Convenience: The overarching feature is the house call service itself. This amenity is described as "amazing" and provides unparalleled convenience, especially for large dogs, multiple-pet households, or animals that do not travel well. It transforms the vet visit from a stressful ordeal into a calm, controlled experience.
-
Treating Pets as Her Own: The sentiment that Dr. Harris "cares for your animals as if they were her own" speaks volumes about her dedication and passion for animal welfare. This level of personal investment builds strong bonds of trust and loyalty with her clients.

Apr 28, 2023 · Kayla HartungAside from the fact that Doc Harris makes house calls, which is amazing in 2016 in itself, she takes the time to do her job in a caring way. My dog was unable to walk and had to be put down back in 2012 and Doc Harris came to my house to do the deed. He was a large dog that was NOT ready to go! It took 3 shots to get him down and Doc Harris was beyond kind and understanding while treating him. Once he passed, I asked if she could wait a few minutes for my daughter to come home from school to say her final good byes and Doc Harris was very understanding about that. She is extremely compassionate. I recommend her to anyone who needs a good vet.
Jan 11, 2016 · ginna anselmoDr. Harris is amazing. She cared for my dog, Rocky, who recently passed just short of 18 years old. She came to my house on short notice even if it turned out he was being dramatic or I was being dramatic. His tough guy adrenaline would kick in and it became difficult to explain to her why I called her. Dr. Harris was always patient with me when it came to explaining how to hold my little toothless man to have his blood taken. She always called back and I was able to meet her for his thyroid medication refills or if he needed his NSAIDs. Dr. Harris continues to care for my cats. She has pets of her own and you can tell she adores them. She never lost her passion. I can feel that, and I can only imagine it's one of the reasons she's one of very few willing to make house calls.
Jun 21, 2019 · AlannaDr. Harris has been caring for my dogs since we got our first almost 12 years ago. She comes to our home in Commack which is great for our dogs! Shew is kind and caring and really knows her stuff! I could be happier with the care she gives our sweet dogs.
Jan 16, 2020 · Scott WeberWe've used Dr. Harris for many years. Not only is Dr. Harris competent and professional, she is the most compassionate veterinarian we've ever seen. Whether bringing our pets in for regular shots or emergency visits if they were sick, injured or needed evaluation for end of life, Dr. Harris was always there for us. We wouldn't trust anyone else with the care of our family pets.
