My wife and I have a rescue dog, Winston, who suffers from severe anxiety during normal day to day events like walks, groomers, vet appointments, and strangers. Ensuring he has proper health care is important and all the people at Harborside are truly fantastic, from the receptionists to the tech supports to the vets themselves. We have been bringing Winston in to Harborside for nearly 3 years since we adopted him and every visit they treat him with the utmost care and concern. They routinely go above and beyond for not only his comfort, but for ours as parents as well. Most recently this week we required some specialized health certificates for international travel & once again Harborside proved to be a great resource. Not only following up multiple times to get us the right answers, but also making systematic changes to ensure our paperwork met requirements for travel and safety. We are so lucky to have such a great Vet organization so close and operated by such great humans. Thank you!

Welcome to Harborside Veterinary Hospital
Welcome to Harborside Veterinary Hospital, a Pet Hospital located at 162 New York Ave, Huntington, NY 11743, USA. Harborside Veterinary Hospital aims to provide comprehensive veterinary care to the Huntington community. Based on online reviews, experiences vary, with some pet owners praising their care, particularly for anxious dogs and their support with specialized needs like international travel documentation, while another recounts a negative experience concerning breed-specific understanding.
Operating as a Pet Hospital, Harborside Veterinary Hospital is described by one reviewer as having a team of "truly fantastic" people, from receptionists to technicians and veterinarians. This suggests a friendly and supportive environment. The same reviewer, who has been bringing their anxious rescue dog Winston for nearly three years, consistently praises the team for treating him with the "utmost care and concern" and going "above and beyond" for his comfort and the owners' peace of mind. In contrast, another review describes a chaotic waiting room that stressed their Shiba Inu, indicating that the environment might be overwhelming for some pets.
The services offered at Harborside Veterinary Hospital, based on the customer reviews, include:
- General Veterinary Care: Routine check-ups and care for various health concerns, as they have been a regular provider for a rescue dog for three years.
- Care for Anxious Pets: They are noted for their considerate approach to a dog with severe anxiety.
- International Health Certificates: They assisted with the specialized paperwork required for international pet travel, including follow-ups and systematic changes to meet requirements.
- Diagnosis and Treatment: While one reviewer felt they missed their Shiba Inu's underlying health issue, the hospital generally provides diagnostic and treatment services.
Features of Harborside Veterinary Hospital, as perceived through customer experiences, present a mixed view:
- Caring and Dedicated Staff: Praised by one reviewer for their care, concern, and going above and beyond.
- Support for Anxious Pets: Noted for their positive interactions with a rescue dog suffering from severe anxiety.
- Assistance with Specialized Needs: Demonstrated by their help with international health certificates.
- Potential Lack of Breed-Specific Knowledge: A negative review suggests a lack of understanding regarding the unique needs of a Shiba Inu.
- Potentially Overwhelming Environment: One reviewer described a packed and noisy waiting room that stressed their dog.
Promotional aspects from the positive review include the long-term satisfaction of a customer with an anxious dog and their successful assistance with international travel requirements. This suggests reliability and a willingness to handle complex or sensitive situations. However, the negative review serves as a caution, particularly for owners of breeds with specific needs.
For our local users in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, when choosing a "Pet Hospital," it's important to consider the clinic's environment, the staff's approach to pets with anxiety or specific breed traits, and their ability to handle specialized requirements. The contrasting reviews for Harborside Veterinary Hospital highlight the importance of finding a clinic that is both competent and attuned to your pet's individual needs.
In Bengaluru, you might look for pet hospitals that specifically mention experience with certain breeds or handling anxious animals. Reading reviews that detail how the clinic manages different temperaments and specific health or administrative needs can be helpful. A busy waiting room, as described in one review of Harborside, might be a concern for pets that are easily stressed, so inquiring about the clinic's flow and how they manage waiting times could be beneficial.
The positive experience with international health certificates at Harborside Veterinary Hospital indicates a willingness to go the extra mile for clients with specific needs. If you anticipate needing such services in Bengaluru, it would be wise to ask potential clinics about their experience with international travel documentation for pets.
Conversely, the negative review regarding the Shiba Inu highlights the importance of breed-specific knowledge in veterinary care. If you own a breed known for particular sensitivities or health issues, it would be prudent to ask a potential vet in Bengaluru about their experience with that breed.

In conclusion, Harborside Veterinary Hospital in Huntington, NY, receives positive feedback for its caring staff and support for anxious pets and specialized needs like international travel. However, a negative review points out a potential lack of breed-specific understanding and a stressful environment for a sensitive dog. For pet owners in Bengaluru, these contrasting experiences underscore the importance of considering your pet's individual temperament and needs when selecting a veterinary care provider.

Jan 14, 2025 · Bob HigginsShiba Inus are known for being sensitive and independent, and Jethro is no exception. Sadly, Harborside Vet clearly doesn't understand the unique needs of this breed. From the moment we walked in, it was chaos. The waiting room was packed, and the noise and commotion clearly stressed Jethro out. He was shaking and trying to hide under the chairs. When we finally saw the vet (Tyler Barrett), he didn't seem to have any experience with Shibas. They tried to handle Jethro roughly, which only made him more anxious and fearful. They didn't take the time to earn his trust or make him feel comfortable. To make matters worse, they completely missed his underlying health issue. They dismissed his symptoms as "typical Shiba behavior" and sent us home with nothing but a generic anxiety medication. Thankfully, we found a vet who specializes in Shibas and was able to properly diagnose and treat him. Harborside Vet's lack of breed-specific knowledge and their complete disregard for Jethro's well-being is unacceptable. I would never recommend this clinic to any Shiba Inu owner.

Jan 12, 2022 · Paul KirchNo way would I take my animal here, I called to make an appointment to Have my dogs nails clipped. This way I could get aquainted with this place and possibly use them as my primary Vet . The woman who answered the phone was VERY unprofessional, she was very off putting almost like she didn't want or need new clients. This place was recommended to me by somebody I know.Which, I let them knowt immediately F.the beginningm of the call, they me on hold which was no problem, then in the middle of the conversation without in the rudest way by saying hold in mid sentence, like HOLD click.Twice this happened finally I gave up waiting. If this how they do business before you even get to see them.,NO THANKS the owners of this practice must know by now that the front desk people are not professional but have not gotten their House in order by continuing to put up with sup par too bad I was looking for a New places but now I will be sure to let my other dog Loving friends and customers know the score .
