I chose this location for my dogs ear cropping. Given that she was an older puppy than is normal for this procedure, I believe they did an excellent job. Yes it is a little difficult understanding the surgeons accent, but he does know what he is doing. My dogs ears are standing on their own with no training, but I was told this is not always the case. I took away one star because she was returned to us with a minor UTI that did clear away with the same antibiotics prescribed for her ear aftercare. However, as temporary as the UTI may have been, it was harrowing to deal with and perhaps possibly preventable. All in all I would still recommend this clinic for ear cropping on older puppies.

Gateway Animal Hospital Introduce
For local residents in Jacksonville, Florida, searching under the category "Pet Hospital," Gateway Animal Hospital, situated at 6909 Norwood Ave, is earning recognition for its specialized services, particularly in surgical procedures like ear cropping, and for the compassionate and economically considerate approach of its veterinary staff, notably Dr. Roy. The available customer reviews highlight the hospital's proficiency in specific treatments, even in challenging cases, and the dedication of its veterinarians to providing necessary care while being mindful of clients' financial constraints, making it a noteworthy option for pet owners in the Jacksonville area seeking both specialized and general veterinary services.
One pet owner recounts their experience with a specific surgical procedure: "I chose this location for my dogs ear cropping. All in all I would still recommend this clinic for ear cropping on older puppies." This detailed review provides valuable insights into Gateway Animal Hospital's capabilities in performing specialized procedures like ear cropping, even on older puppies, which can be a more complex undertaking. The reviewer's assessment of an "excellent job" and the successful outcome of the dog's ears standing without training speaks to the skill of the surgeon. While they note a minor communication challenge due to the surgeon's accent, they clearly state that "he does know what he is doing," emphasizing professional competence. The reviewer does mention a post-operative urinary tract infection (UTI) that their dog developed, which they found concerning and potentially preventable, leading to a one-star deduction. However, despite this issue, the fact that the UTI cleared with the prescribed antibiotics and the reviewer's overall recommendation of the clinic for ear cropping on older puppies suggests a generally positive assessment of their surgical expertise in this area.
Another long-term client offers a different perspective, focusing on the general veterinary care provided at Gateway Animal Hospital: "Dr. Roy is caring and knowledgeable. I've been taking my dogs to him for over 7 years. He'll never give you anything you don't need for your animal and tries to keep everything within your budget." This review highlights the qualities of a specific veterinarian, Dr. Roy, who is described as both "caring and knowledgeable." The fact that the reviewer has been taking their dogs to him for over seven years speaks to a high level of trust and satisfaction with his services. The reviewer specifically praises Dr. Roy's ethical approach to treatment, stating that he "will never give you anything you don't need for your animal," which builds confidence in his integrity. Furthermore, the emphasis on Dr. Roy's efforts to "keep everything within your budget" is a significant positive for pet owners who are concerned about the costs of veterinary care. This suggests that Gateway Animal Hospital, at least under Dr. Roy's care, is mindful of financial considerations and strives to provide quality care in an affordable manner.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Gateway Animal Hospital appears to be one where specialized surgical procedures are performed with expertise, although potential post-operative complications should be considered. The presence of a caring and knowledgeable veterinarian like Dr. Roy suggests a compassionate and professional setting for general pet care, with an awareness of the financial concerns of pet owners.
The services offered by Gateway Animal Hospital include specialized surgical procedures such as ear cropping on dogs, even older puppies. They also provide general veterinary care, including diagnosis and treatment of illnesses (as indicated by the UTI case), preventative care (implied by long-term care with Dr. Roy), and potentially other medical and surgical services for pets. The emphasis on Dr. Roy's approach suggests a service model that prioritizes necessary treatments and budget-conscious care.
The key features of Gateway Animal Hospital include its demonstrated expertise in specialized procedures like ear cropping on older puppies; the presence of a skilled surgeon (despite potential communication challenges with accent); the caring and knowledgeable approach of Dr. Roy, who has a long-standing positive reputation with clients; and a commitment to providing veterinary care that is mindful of clients' budgets, ensuring they only receive necessary treatments. The hospital appears to cater to both those seeking specific surgical interventions and those needing general, reliable veterinary care.

Apr 19, 2024 · Freddy GLost a customer today owner did not disclose over the phone the cost of visit and treatment after explaining my reason for coming. He told me to come pick up the medicine later after I heard him tell a customer that he was closing at 1:30pm. He was also rude and nasty. If you love your pet don’t send them here.
Nov 22, 2023 · Nicolle DDr. S.P. Roy, DVM, M.S is an amazing Veterinarian. He is caring, understanding and always helps us when our fur babies Jax and Tiger aren’t feeling well. I have been coming here since 2018. His prices are very reasonable and most importantly he is a very trust worthy veterinarian. He saved us a lot of $$$ from another location that wanted to up charge us. I rather spend my money here at this Vet Office than anywhere else. Forever grateful.
Jan 14, 2023 · Delilah LouiseI would not recommend these people to my worst enemy. I was talked down to, talked over, and not listened to. When I approached the front desk the clerks were rude and didn't speak back. I explained that it was my daughter's dog that's currently in the Army, and the clerk talked down to me for a good 3 minutes instead of listening. They acted like they were providing free services, which they weren't!! The desk clerk was a know it all and didn't not listen to anything I said. They we're more concerned with how much I was spending. If it wasn't for my daughter I would have walked out because who wants to pay hundreds or dollars just to be talked down on, ignored, and embarrassed. I've been to other vets and next time I know to just wait for an appointment. A big lesson learned. They didn't even tell me how to use the meds or anything. She just made up some story and forced me to sign a fake hand written letter when I declined to pay thousands of dollars. Don't go here!! No more homeless pets would treat another human the way they did. It was sad, embarrassing, and rediculous.
