Welcome to Gansett Animal Hospital

Welcome to Gansett Animal Hospital, a pet hospital located at 167 Newport Ave in Rumford, Rhode Island. Serving the local community, Gansett Animal Hospital is dedicated to providing veterinary care for your beloved animal companions. Based on customer feedback, the hospital prides itself on having a great staff known for their courtesy, professionalism, and caring nature. Despite being busy, the team at Gansett Animal Hospital strives to give each pet individual attention, making them feel like the top priority. The veterinary technicians are also highlighted as friendly and knowledgeable, contributing to a positive and supportive environment for both pets and their owners.

One of the key figures at Gansett Animal Hospital, as mentioned in the reviews, is Dr. Rizzo. She is described as an "awesome" doctor who consistently takes the time to talk to pet owners and thoroughly answer any questions they may have. This dedication to communication and patient care is a significant feature of Gansett Animal Hospital, fostering trust and ensuring that pet owners feel well-informed about their animal's health and treatment plans. Dr. Rizzo's approach of not rushing through appointments and prioritizing open dialogue is a valuable asset to the clinic and greatly appreciated by her clients.

The services offered at Gansett Animal Hospital appear to encompass general veterinary care, given the positive remarks about Dr. Rizzo and the vet techs treating pets. One specific service mentioned in the reviews is ultrasound, including cardiac ultrasounds. This indicates that the hospital provides diagnostic imaging capabilities, which are crucial for assessing various internal conditions in pets. However, it is important to note that one of the reviews specifically focuses on a negative experience related to the scheduling and execution of ultrasound services, which will be discussed in more detail below.

The positive aspects of Gansett Animal Hospital, particularly the staff's demeanor and Dr. Rizzo's attentiveness, suggest a caring and professional environment for routine veterinary needs. The emphasis on taking their time with each pet, even when busy, indicates a commitment to quality care over simply rushing through appointments. This personalized approach can be especially reassuring for pet owners who value a strong relationship with their veterinary care provider.

However, one detailed review presents a significant concern regarding the ultrasound services at Gansett Animal Hospital. The reviewer recounts a situation where their pet was dropped off early in the morning for a cardiac ultrasound, with an initial estimated pick-up time that was later pushed back multiple times due to the late arrival of the external ultrasound technician. The reviewer expressed frustration with the lack of communication and the expectation that pets would spend a significant portion of the day waiting in a cage before the procedure. This experience led the reviewer to strongly recommend seeking ultrasound services elsewhere, citing the unprofessionalism of the external ultrasound provider and what they perceived as Gansett management's acceptance of a system that inconveniences both pets and owners.

This detailed negative experience regarding ultrasound services highlights a potential inconsistency in the quality of care, depending on whether it is provided by the regular staff or an external specialist. While the regular vets at Gansett are praised, the reliance on an external ultrasound provider who may not adhere to a predictable schedule appears to be a point of concern for at least one customer. This suggests that while Gansett Animal Hospital may excel in general veterinary care and possess a commendable team, the logistical aspects of specialized services like ultrasound might need improvement.

The review concerning the ultrasound service also raises questions about communication protocols when external specialists are involved. The discrepancies in the estimated pick-up times and the lack of proactive updates contributed to the reviewer's negative experience. Clear and timely communication is essential in veterinary care, especially when procedures involve drop-off and pick-up times that can impact a pet owner's day.

Currently, there is no promotional information provided in the reviews for Gansett Animal Hospital. The focus of the feedback is primarily on the quality of the staff and the specific experience with ultrasound services. Therefore, local users interested in Gansett Animal Hospital should inquire directly about any current promotions or special offers they may have for various services.

In conclusion, Gansett Animal Hospital in Rumford, RI, is praised for its great, courteous, professional, and caring staff, including the "awesome" Dr. Rizzo and knowledgeable Vet Techs, who are dedicated to treating each pet with individual attention. The hospital offers a range of services, including ultrasound. However, a significant concern has been raised regarding the reliability and scheduling of their ultrasound services due to the use of an external provider. While the regular veterinary care appears to be of high quality, potential clients seeking ultrasound services should be aware of the issues highlighted in the review and may want to inquire specifically about the scheduling and logistics of such procedures. For general veterinary care needs, Gansett Animal Hospital's dedicated staff and Dr. Rizzo's attentive approach make it a potentially valuable resource for pet owners in the Rumford area. We encourage local users to contact Gansett Animal Hospital at (401) 434-2751 or +1 401-434-2751 to learn more about their services and address any specific concerns they may have.

This review is for ultrasound services only at Gansett Animal Hospital. I made an appointment for my pet to have a cardiac ultrasound and was instructed to drop him off at 8am. I was told that the ultrasound would be done in the morning (between 8am and noon) and that I would be able to pick up my pet when they called me; I was told that would be around 1:00pm. At the time I dropped off my pet at 8:00am, I was told that my pet would likely be ready to be picked up around 11:00am, but that was just an estimated time, as I was told then that the ultrasound person typically arrives mid- to late-morning. (This latter information raised a red flag for me: why am I dropping off my pet to sit in a cage for several hours before the ultrasound vet shows up?). Shortly after 2:00pm, I called Gansett to inquire about my pet to see if he was ready to be picked up. I was told then that the ultrasound person had not shown up yet! When asked, I was told that the person was expected to show up. It was shortly after 3:30pm that my pet was ready to be picked up. Given how unprofessional the ultrasound vet is who Gansett uses, and given that Gansett agrees with the plan that pet owners are expected to have their pets languish in cages for most of a day for (very expensive, but relatively fast) ultrasound services, I highly recommend that you take your pet to a different clinic/hospital to have ultrasound services done. While the regular vets at Gansett are excellent, shame on Gansett management for agreeing to a system where an outside vet can arrive whenever they want to, and you, the pet owner, are expected to accommodate that. And so is your pet.

I go there so my cat can get his yearly well visit. They are always professional and congenial. Just recently my cat's carrier fell apart in their parking lot on the way out to the car and after trying to catch him, I ran in there asking for help. They were very compassionate. They let me hang flyers all over the property. They called to check on me. One employee said that when she got off of work that she was going to drive around the neighborhood to look for him. You can't ask for more than that 😭 A+

Gansett animal hospital is great. My two dogs are always well cared for and the staff is always excellent about explaining what treatments are optional, which are required, and what my treatment options are. I never leave feeling confused or unconfident about my pets health.

I was a customer of theirs for over 10 years but unfortunately the customer service has degraded and I’ll be bringing my pet to another vet. I brought in my dog for an 11:45 appointment and I arrived 7-8 minutes late. I was told I didn’t come on time and needed to reschedule because it was lunch time and I would delay their day. Meanwhile, both of the patient rooms were occupied by other dogs that were there from at 11:15 and 11:30 appointment when I walked in. They wouldn’t have time to see me on time even if I had been there on time. I was told I should have called but even if I had they would’ve told me to not come in. I was told they alot appointments 15 minutes even though their other patients were in there for over 30 minutes. I have been left waiting for 15-20 minutes in past appointments and would expect I be given the same courtesy because things happen and I understood. I believe this was a scheduling issue and they shouldn’t have scheduled anyone at 11:45 if they had a hard stop time at 12 pm. If I was there as long as the previous appointments, I would’ve been there well over 30 minutes. I’m extremely disappointed in the lack of courtesy and respect they show their patients. I recommend finding somewhere else to go unless you’re on time every time.
