Poor service, inflated cost, and bad patient care. If I could give zero stars I would. Procedure: minor surgery to remove debris from paw. Receptionist was extremely rude, dismissive and openly annoyed by doing her job. They spitefully increased my bill by about 80% ($900 instead of $500) when I declined the overnight stay and insisted on picking my dog up before 6pm. The new vet had to remove more debris two days later that Allen Tausz left in her paw.

Welcome to Fountain House Veterinary Clinic. Alan Tausz DVM
Fountain House Veterinary Clinic, located at 2737 Slaterville Rd, Brooktondale, NY 14817, USA, serves the local community as a dedicated "Pet Hospital." The clinic, associated with veterinarians like Dr. Alan Tausz DVM, aims to provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and wellness care for companion animals. As a pet hospital, its primary function is to serve as a central point for all aspects of pet healthcare, from preventive measures to diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries. The facility strives to be a trusted resource for pet owners, supporting the health and longevity of their beloved animals.
The environment at Fountain House Veterinary Clinic, like other dedicated pet hospitals, is designed to be functional, clean, and conducive to veterinary care. While specific interior details are not provided, a typical veterinary clinic environment prioritizes hygiene and organization. This usually includes a welcoming reception area where clients and their pets are greeted, and where administrative tasks like check-ins and payments are handled. Examination rooms are equipped for thorough physical assessments and initial diagnostics, often designed to be calming for the animals. Behind the scenes, the clinic would house areas for various medical procedures, including a surgical suite maintained to sterile standards, a diagnostic area for laboratory testing and imaging (such as X-rays), and recovery spaces for post-operative patients. The atmosphere is significantly influenced by the staff's demeanor. Positive reviews emphasize a caring environment where staff members are seen as treating everyone "as family," going "above and beyond with love, respect, and ultimate care." This suggests a strong focus on creating a supportive and empathetic space, particularly valuable during difficult times for pet owners. Conversely, a negative review points to concerns about the receptionist's demeanor and potential insensitivity regarding client preferences, suggesting that consistency in client-facing interactions may vary.
Fountain House Veterinary Clinic offers a broad array of services, characteristic of a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," to address the diverse healthcare needs of pets. These services typically include:
-
Wellness and Preventive Care: This is the foundation of long-term pet health and includes routine physical examinations, age and lifestyle-appropriate vaccination protocols, comprehensive parasite control programs (for fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites), and tailored nutritional counseling. Regular wellness visits are critical for early detection of health issues and for maintaining a pet's overall vitality.
-
Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose various conditions, the clinic is equipped with diagnostic capabilities. This commonly includes in-house laboratory services for rapid analysis of blood, urine, and fecal samples. Digital radiography (X-rays) would be available for imaging bones, organs, and soft tissues. More advanced imaging techniques, such as ultrasonography, might also be offered or referred out, depending on the clinic's specific equipment and expertise.
-
Internal Medicine: For pets suffering from a range of internal conditions, the clinic provides diagnostic workups and develops treatment plans. This covers issues related to the gastrointestinal system, urinary tract, liver, kidneys, heart, and endocrine system (e.g., diabetes, thyroid disorders).
-
Surgical Procedures: The clinic performs various surgical procedures, ranging from routine elective surgeries like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries (e.g., tumor removal, foreign body extraction, wound repair). Anesthesia monitoring and pain management are critical components of their surgical protocols, aimed at ensuring patient safety and comfort. However, one review noted concerns about a surgical outcome requiring subsequent intervention, indicating that while surgeries are performed, individual results and follow-up care experiences may vary.
-
Dentistry: Oral health is crucial for a pet's overall well-being. Services typically include professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, tooth extractions when necessary, and addressing other dental diseases. Guidance on at-home dental care is also usually provided.
-
Emergency and Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency center, the clinic likely provides urgent care during its regular business hours for acute illnesses or injuries. They would stabilize critical patients and provide initial treatment, referring to specialized emergency hospitals for cases requiring continuous overnight care or highly specialized intervention.
-
Pain Management: For pets experiencing acute pain (e.g., post-surgery, injury) or chronic conditions (e.g., arthritis), the clinic offers various pain management strategies, including pharmaceuticals and potentially other therapeutic modalities.
-
Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy allows for convenient access to necessary prescription medications and often prescription diets and parasite control products directly following a diagnosis or consultation.
Key features of Fountain House Veterinary Clinic, as gleaned from customer feedback, appear to be a strong emphasis on compassionate care and client trust, alongside challenges in certain areas of service delivery.
-
Compassionate Approach: Many clients highlight the "most caring veterinarian care" and feeling like "everyone at Fountain House treats everyone as family." This suggests a core value of empathy and building strong, trusting relationships with pet owners, particularly during emotional times such as end-of-life care. The phrase "They go above and beyond with love, respect, and ultimate care!" speaks to a dedication to humane treatment and client support.
-
Trust and Reliability: The sentiment of "I wholeheartedly trust my pets in their care....EVERY TIME! No doubts, no worries!" indicates that for many clients, the clinic inspires confidence and reliability in their veterinary services.
-
Addressing Difficult Situations: The clinic is praised for its support during "the most difficult times of the life of a beloved pet," suggesting a strong capacity for empathetic end-of-life care and client grief support.
-
Challenges in Service Consistency: One review, however, raises concerns about "Poor service, inflated cost, and bad patient care." Specific issues mentioned include a "rude, dismissive and openly annoyed" receptionist, an "inflated" bill upon declining an overnight stay, and a surgical outcome requiring a subsequent procedure by another vet because debris was allegedly left behind. This indicates that while many experience exceptional care, there may be inconsistencies in administrative interaction and, in some cases, the perceived quality of medical follow-through. Such feedback points to potential areas for improvement in operational consistency and client communication regarding billing and post-surgical care. The claim of a "new vet had to remove more debris two days later that Allen Tausz left in her paw" is a serious accusation that, if accurate, would highlight a significant lapse in surgical thoroughness.
Regarding promotional information, while specific current promotions for Fountain House Veterinary Clinic are best obtained by contacting them directly, general "Pet Hospital" practices often employ various strategies. These may include:
-
Online Presence: A clinic website typically details services, contact information, and potentially provides educational resources or online appointment booking. Social media engagement helps build community and share pet health tips.
-
New Client Offers: Discounts on initial wellness exams or special packages for puppies and kittens are common incentives to attract new clients to the practice.
-
Seasonal Health Campaigns: Promotions tied to specific health concerns, such as reduced rates for dental cleanings during Pet Dental Health Month, or discounts on preventative medications during peak seasons for parasites.
-
Referral Programs: Incentives for existing clients who refer new ones to the clinic.
-
Community Involvement: Participation in local events, adoption drives, or educational workshops to connect with the community and showcase their expertise.
However, the most compelling "promotional" aspect for Fountain House Veterinary Clinic, as reflected in the reviews, is the strength of positive word-of-mouth based on highly compassionate and trusted care. The glowing review acts as a powerful endorsement of their core values and the emotional connection they forge with clients. Conversely, the severely negative review serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting potential inconsistencies in service delivery and billing practices. Therefore, for potential clients, the reputation of Fountain House Veterinary Clinic, including its association with Dr. Alan Tausz, is shaped by these contrasting experiences, emphasizing the importance of individual assessment and direct communication with the clinic to gauge its current standards and practices.

Jul 27, 2023 · Corina BatsfordDr T and his whole staff is amazing!! I am not a client of his and I called him this past Sunday morning in regards to my cat having a swollen face on his right side. I spoke to the Dr and I said I believe my cat has a bad tooth, I live about an hour away and he was so friendly on the phone and told me to come in. From the moment I walked in and met the Dr I knew my pet was in good hands. He was so friendly and caring with my cat Stuart and his assistant that was there was amazing as he helped me. Had I waited until next morning my pet would have been in really bad shape, he ended up having 3 teeth pulled and now he's on the road to recovery. I cannot thank Dr T and his entire staff for their help. I highly recommend this clinic.
