Had to come to ftsmith to the ER to bring my munchkin Petunia in for an Emergency C Section, we had her appointment scheduled to have her spayed but she locked up and conceived February 21st, Fort Smith Emergency Vet Clinic made us feel very comfortable, they went above and beyond, if they were your normal hours vet clinic hands down I’d use them regularly, my bill was very expensive which was to be expected due to the circumstances but they went above and beyond, for no additional charge during her emergency C Section they went ahead and spayed her, come to find out she was only pregnant with one single kitten, the kitten was born with abnormalities sadly and we had to make the dreadful decision to euthanize her as it was the most humane option for her, my mom told me all life returns to it’s creator God, which was such a precious understanding of eternity with the lord for a being that is so innocent, in times like this you truly see just how precious life is, thank you Dr Stepp and staff for going above and beyond in everything yall do, you can really see that these people chose the right occupation working with animals because they truly value each innocent life that comes through their doors, big or small they all see the importance in each and every animal and owner. I can’t thank yall enough!

Welcome to Fort Smith Animal Emergency
Welcome to the detailed introduction of Fort Smith Animal Emergency, a vital resource for pet owners in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and the surrounding areas. Located at 4301 Regions Park Dr #3, Fort Smith, AR 72916, USA, this facility operates under the platform category of Pet Hospital, specifically focusing on emergency and critical care for animals. You can reach them in urgent situations at (479) 649-3100 or their mobile number +1 479-649-3100.
As an emergency-focused pet hospital, the environment at Fort Smith Animal Emergency is likely designed to handle urgent and often stressful situations efficiently. You can expect a triage area for immediate assessment of incoming patients, examination rooms equipped for emergency evaluations and procedures, and potentially a surgical suite for critical interventions. Emergency veterinary hospitals often have advanced monitoring equipment and a more intensive care unit (ICU) to support animals with life-threatening conditions. The atmosphere may be fast-paced due to the nature of emergency care, but the priority is always on providing immediate and effective treatment.
The primary service offered by Fort Smith Animal Emergency is emergency veterinary care. This encompasses a wide range of critical medical and surgical interventions that cannot wait for a regular veterinary appointment. Based on the positive customer review, their services include emergency surgical procedures such as a C-section. In this specific instance, the staff, including Dr. Stepp, were commended for their compassionate care and for going above and beyond by performing a spay procedure at no additional charge during the emergency surgery. This suggests a willingness to provide comprehensive care even under pressure.
Emergency veterinary hospitals are typically equipped to handle various urgent situations, including trauma (such as car accidents or falls), sudden illnesses (like severe vomiting, diarrhea, or difficulty breathing), poisoning, bloat, and complications during labor. They often have the capability to perform immediate diagnostics, such as emergency blood work, X-rays, and ultrasounds, to quickly assess the animal's condition and initiate appropriate treatment. Continuous monitoring and intensive care are also crucial services provided in such a setting.
However, it is essential to note the contrasting negative review, which raises serious concerns about the hospital's capacity to handle overnight issues, staffing levels, and the attitude of some staff members. This review describes a lack of empathy, difficulty in getting the pet assessed promptly, long wait times without being seen, and a general feeling of a lack of care. This feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in service quality or capacity limitations during peak times or overnight.
Features of Fort Smith Animal Emergency, as an emergency pet hospital, should include round-the-clock availability or extended hours beyond regular veterinary clinics. The presence of trained emergency veterinarians and support staff is crucial, as is the availability of specialized equipment for emergency diagnostics and treatment. The positive review highlights the compassion and dedication of Dr. Stepp and the staff, indicating that at least some members are deeply committed to animal welfare. The willingness to perform an additional procedure (spay) during an emergency surgery without extra charge could be seen as a feature reflecting a commitment to the animal's long-term health.
On the other hand, the negative review suggests potential shortcomings in staffing, equipment for overnight care, and customer service, particularly in terms of empathy and communication during stressful emergency situations. It's important for potential users to be aware of these conflicting experiences.
Promotional information is not explicitly available in the provided text. Emergency veterinary hospitals typically do not rely on promotions in the same way that general practice clinics might, as their services are needed urgently and unexpectedly. However, they might communicate their expertise in handling specific types of emergencies or highlight the qualifications of their emergency veterinary team on their website or through local outreach efforts, if any.
In summary, Fort Smith Animal Emergency is a Pet Hospital specializing in emergency veterinary care in Fort Smith, Arkansas. While one customer shared a positive experience highlighting compassionate and comprehensive care during a critical situation, another review expressed significant concerns about the hospital's ability to handle emergencies effectively, particularly overnight, citing issues with staffing, equipment, and staff attitude. Local users seeking emergency veterinary services should be aware of these differing perspectives. In emergency situations, immediate contact is crucial to assess the hospital's current capacity and determine the best course of action for your pet.
For local pet owners, Fort Smith Animal Emergency aims to provide a critical care option during urgent health crises. The positive feedback suggests that under certain circumstances, they can offer exceptional and compassionate care. However, the negative feedback indicates potential limitations or inconsistencies in their service, particularly concerning overnight care and initial response. It would be prudent for pet owners to have a primary veterinarian for regular care and to understand the emergency protocols in their area, including having a clear understanding of what to expect from emergency facilities during different times and situations. If possible, having a backup emergency option could also be beneficial.
Given the conflicting reviews, a balanced perspective is essential. The positive review speaks to the potential for excellent, compassionate emergency care, while the negative review raises serious concerns about the hospital's capacity and service standards in all situations. Local users should consider these points and perhaps seek additional information or have a contingency plan for pet emergencies, especially those that might require overnight care or occur during peak hours.

Apr 27, 2025 · Jordan PhillipsI do not recommend this place if you are having an emergency with your pet. They are not equipped nor do they have the staff to handle overnight issues. Their attitudes were lacking in care and empathy. I had to beg them just to check out my pets vitals when I arrived, the front deck lady didn't even want to take him back to check him out. They told us it was an 2 to 3 hours wait. Never put us in a room. And never called us when it was our turn to be seen by the vet. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE!
May 07, 2025 · Ramee WestMoose swallowed a bee. He began shaking hard, slobbering and whimpering. By the time we got there he had a huge fever and wasn’t moving a lot. We had no idea what had happened. They got him right back, figured it out, hearted him and had us on our way in less than 2 hours. They were great!
Mar 30, 2025 · Amanda Keeton50+ Stars!!! AMAZING service from Fort Smith Animal Emergency. Immense thanks to everyone encountered yesterday evening. I've never had to use an emergency service for my baby so I just picked the closest one to my house. So glad I came here!!! From start to finish they treated my baby Rodeo and I with absolute kindness and compassion. Very transparent with possible procedures, procedure prices and overall extremely professional. So much kindness at this facility! My baby ended up being ok but in the moment, not knowing, it's nerve wracking. Hopefully no more emergencies arise but I'll be going here if so. Don't hesitate to visit if your fur baby's in distress!!!!
Mar 08, 2025 · Jeanette ShawWe drove two hours in the middle of the night (1am) just thankful that there was an animal hospital still open because our dog was having a severe allergic reaction to his food. He had hive all over his body and his eyes started to close. Once we got there (mind you we called before) they told us we had to wait 3 hours to see the vet and no other nurses would check him out or provide any assistance to him until the doctor looked at him. Our dog could have died. They were the most uncaring people and would never leave my dog in their care. If you love your animals take them somewhere else in the middle of the night!
