I have been taking my little dog Coco here for about a year. Everyone here from the doctors to the receptionist are super nice and genuinely care about you and your pet! Recently my little dog was having some GI issues and they got me in the same day. What I love about them is they will give you a printout of what they suggest as far as treatments and testing Etc but if you decline any treatments they never make you feel bad about it. There's never any high pressure sales pitches either like I've experienced at other vet clinics. I ended up doing a dental there with Coco after her GI issues were resolved. I feel like it was super reasonable given she had to have all but 2 of her teeth pulled! I also love that they call and email to check on your pet after a visit or procedure! I have had nothing but great experiences every time I have brought Coco in!

As a vital component of the Pet Hospital category, Family Pet Medical & Surgery is more than just a clinic; it's a place where pets receive attentive and compassionate care, and where pet owners feel supported and informed.
The moment you step into Family Pet Medical & Surgery, you'll likely notice an environment designed with both pets and their owners in mind. While specific details about the interior decor aren't available, pet hospitals generally strive for a clean, calming, and organized atmosphere. This typically includes a welcoming reception area, comfortable waiting spaces, and dedicated examination rooms that are sanitized regularly. The aim is to reduce stress for pets entering a new environment, which is crucial for a positive veterinary experience. The staff likely plays a significant role in creating this welcoming atmosphere, with a friendly and reassuring presence for both anxious pets and their worried owners.
Family Pet Medical & Surgery provides a comprehensive range of services, covering various aspects of veterinary medicine. These services are foundational to maintaining your pet's health and addressing any issues that may arise. While a complete list isn't provided, common offerings at a reputable pet hospital like this typically include:
- Routine Wellness and Preventive Care: This is the cornerstone of long-term pet health. It includes regular check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and nutritional counseling. These proactive measures are essential for detecting potential problems early and keeping pets healthy throughout their lives.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and conditions, pet hospitals utilize various diagnostic tools. This often includes in-house laboratory testing for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams, as well as imaging services like X-rays and potentially ultrasound.
- Surgical Procedures: As indicated by "Surgery" in their name, Family Pet Medical & Surgery is equipped to perform various surgical interventions. This can range from routine spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries or orthopedic procedures. A dedicated surgical suite with appropriate monitoring equipment and anesthesia protocols would be standard.
- Dental Care: Dental health is critically important for pets, impacting their overall well-being. Services likely include professional dental cleanings, extractions (as evidenced by a customer review), and addressing other oral health issues.
- Emergency and Urgent Care: While not explicitly stated as a 24/7 emergency clinic, the customer review highlighting their ability to take in a sick cat on a weekend when their regular vet was closed suggests they can handle urgent cases. This often includes addressing sudden illnesses, injuries, and other pressing medical needs.
- Pain Management: Ensuring pets are comfortable is a priority. This includes managing acute and chronic pain through various medications and therapies.
- Hospice and End-of-Life Care: As one deeply moving customer review illustrates, Family Pet Medical & Surgery provides compassionate end-of-life care, including euthanasia services. This sensitive process is handled with empathy and respect for both the pet and their grieving family.
What truly sets Family Pet Medical & Surgery apart, according to customer testimonials, are its distinctive features and the unwavering dedication of its staff. Several key aspects consistently emerge:
- Genuine Care and Compassion: Multiple reviews emphasize the genuine care and compassion exhibited by every member of the team, from receptionists to doctors. This goes beyond professional duty; it reflects a deep love for animals and an understanding of the bond between pets and their owners. One reviewer specifically mentioned the staff's compassion during the difficult decision to put down their beloved cat, Ranger, noting that they "could not have asked for a more caring and compassionate vet and staff." This level of empathy is invaluable during stressful and emotional times.
- Client-Centered Approach and No High-Pressure Sales: A standout feature is their transparency and respect for client decisions. One reviewer highlighted that Family Pet Medical & Surgery provides clear printouts of suggested treatments and testing, but never makes clients feel bad if they decline any services. This stands in stark contrast to experiences at other clinics where high-pressure sales pitches are common. This approach fosters trust and allows pet owners to make informed decisions without feeling coerced.
- Prompt and Responsive Service: The ability to get a sick pet in for an appointment on the same day, as one reviewer experienced with their dog Coco's GI issues, speaks volumes about their commitment to urgent care and client convenience. This responsiveness is critical when a pet's health is rapidly deteriorating.
- Thorough Follow-Up: The practice of calling and emailing to check on pets after a visit or procedure is a highly appreciated feature. This demonstrates a commitment to continuity of care and a genuine interest in the pet's recovery and well-being. It provides peace of mind for pet owners and reinforces the clinic's caring approach.
- Reasonable Pricing: While the perception of cost can be subjective, at least one reviewer found the pricing to be "super reasonable," even for extensive procedures like dental extractions. This suggests a commitment to providing quality care that is accessible to pet owners.
While specific current promotions are not available, pet hospitals often engage in various promotional activities to benefit their clients and the community. These can include:
- New Client Specials: Offering discounts on the first exam or a free consultation for new patients is a common way to encourage pet owners to try their services.
- Seasonal Health Packages: Promotions around certain times of the year, such as discounted dental cleanings during February (National Pet Dental Health Month) or special pricing on flea and tick prevention in spring, are popular.
- Referral Programs: Incentivizing existing clients to refer new ones can be a win-win, offering a discount for both the referrer and the new client.
- Community Outreach: Participating in local pet adoption events, offering educational seminars, or providing free microchipping clinics are ways to engage with the community and promote responsible pet ownership.
- Online Presence and Social Media: Many modern pet hospitals use their websites and social media channels to share health tips, success stories, and announce special offers. Pet owners are encouraged to check their official website or social media pages for the latest updates.
For those seeking veterinary care in the Arlington, WA area, Family Pet Medical & Surgery presents itself as a highly recommended option, particularly for pet owners who prioritize compassionate care, transparent communication, and a supportive environment. The positive experiences shared by numerous clients underscore their dedication to animal well-being and client satisfaction. Apr 28, 2025 · nicole smithI would highly recommend this vet for your beloved pets!! Last weekend, our 14 year old cat, Ranger, (with kidney failure) was very sick! Our regular vet office was closed. This office went above and beyond for our family. They were so caring and compassionate; (even though they’ve never met us before.) We ended up needing to put Ranger down unfortunately; but we could not have asked for a more caring and compassionate vet and staff. They were absolutely wonderful!! Highly recommend!!
Apr 17, 2025 · Jacob WilliamsWow! I am blown away by the level of care that was and is being shown for my pet. He has a pretty serious wound. Both the Doctor and the assistant that have helped us, worked extra hours with almost no notice to help him. We were constantly communicated with having everything explained very clearly. Our cat is not out of the woods yet, but I could not be happier with the care he has recieved so far. It could not be more clear that they truly care about your pets well being. I will definitly recommend them to anyone I know that needs a new veterinarian.
May 04, 2025 · Louis MorganDr. Tomar and his team got us in same day for an emergent visit for a dog who needed help. They were kind and understanding and and took such good care to make sure he had every shot to recover. He ended up needing an amputation and they stayed over to get it done. Everyone has been so kind for the initial visit and the wound checks since! Cannot thank your whole team enough!
Apr 22, 2025 · Emma FossThese people saved my cats life and I cannot appreciate them enough for what they did. My cat Harvey had a lump on his leg and needed to have the leg removed. They were timely and made sure our cat was able to be taken care of in a timely manner. They laid out all options for us and gave us all the needed information to make an informed decision. We had the leg removed and our cat is back to playing and being his mischievous self. This office is full of good people and I really do appreciate all of them. Thank you again for taking care of my cat and helping make sure he lives a long life :)
