I had the privilege of being a client at East Oak Animal Hospital from 2019 to 2025, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The staff are some of the most friendly, compassionate, and genuine animal lovers I have ever encountered. Dr. Jay and his mother, Dr. Mary, are incredibly knowledgeable and clearly dedicated to providing the best care possible. Their passion for animals shines through in every interaction. In the past, when my black Labrador, Nero, was a puppy, I visited other vets who often seemed more focused on upselling me services than on genuinely caring for my dog. That was never the case at East Oak. I never once felt like I was just a customer or that I was being sold something unnecessary. It was clear from the start that Nero's well-being was their top priority. One of the most heartwarming aspects of our experience was how much Nero genuinely loved going to East Oak. It's not every day you hear about a dog being excited to visit the vet, but Nero would get eager and happy whenever we arrived, whether it was for a routine check-up, vaccinations, or even minor procedures. The staff treated him like family, and he loved them right back. Sadly, Nero was diagnosed with bone cancer that eventually spread to his lungs. He was 9 years old. Even during Nero's final visit, he was happy to see his favorite people one last time. When I returned a week later to pick up his ashes and the beautiful clay paw print they had preserved in a shadow box, the staff handed me his bedding and blankets with such care. One of the team members saw me struggling to hold back tears and softly said, "You were a really good dad to him." That simple, heartfelt statement touched me more than I can put into words. It was a reminder of how much they truly understood the bond I had with Nero and how deeply they cared for both of us. East Oak has been my go-to for years now… the trials and tribulations my last fur child put us through were enough to make people look at me in complete disbelief. Dr Jay and the ENTIRE East Oak staff were so incredibly kind, empathetic, and accommodating through it all, his final moments, and even when picking up his ashes. How incredibly difficult it must be to tell someone their fur baby has cancer, or be present with them while he takes his last breath. There really aren’t any adequate words to express how much we appreciate them all, and all the love they shared with our boy that was well beyond their job descriptions.

They charged my wife an extra 3% to pickup our dog of 17yrs ashes, real empathy there. If you use a CC after 12/2/24 you better read the "signs" they say are posted on the door and in the office because they won't warn you when they run your CC. They don't take checks either, cash or debit card only. We're finding a new Vet, maybe one that's a bit more upfront.

Office was so rude the few times I called for an appt, that I took to emailing. It was only when I saw on their FB page that new appts were open that we got one. Even after confirming via email, the person over the phone was still unprofessional. We met with Dr. Jay in April and both he and his tech were excellent. I really appreciate how he spoke to and approached our cat. He understood, she wasn’t aggressive, she was terrified. Our cat had to be put under for the exam, as usual, but they took good care of her and gave us great feedback. I would give them 10 stars. We left feeling grateful we were setup with a good vet, close to home. In August, it seemed our cat was blind. We saw Dr. Mary. She didn’t seem to take the situation seriously and was amused that our cat was aggressive. We understood quick intervention could help so we agreed to have her given gas, as before, to have an exam even though a reading for blood pressure would likely be inaccurate. I told Dr. Mary to be careful with her and she thought I was worried about her techs but I meant be careful with our cat. We could hear the cat screaming after they took her back… why stress her out, we told them she does not allow exams unless sedated as before. I was worried the doctor didn’t know what she was doing, she made an odd comment about how a cat’s retinas reattached recently but she hadn’t noticed. I was concerned but we needed help. She called that afternoon, said she didn’t want to wait for the Gabapentin to work so they gave her gas (we had agreed on gas). She said her blood pressure was normal but she wanted to put her on a cardiac medicine, even though it wouldn't likely help her sight. She said her kidney levels were elevated and I asked if it was a pattern but she was unfamiliar with the history. Why did she need cardiac medicine then? But I felt she wanted to wrap up our call, so I planned to get more info in person. When we came for pick up, the doctor was "busy with another patient”. We were given sample meds and instructions by a tech, no talk at all about side effects. They just wanted us to make an appt to come back in two weeks. We spent several hundred dollars and more importantly, we have a sick animal here but you can’t take the time to speak to us? When we got home we saw that she still had a bandage on her leg that we had to ask about – they apologized, it should have been removed. We asked for them to trim her claws while she was under, they didn’t even do that (it was removed from the bill even though we were told it was done). She cried when we tried to pick her up at one point, very unlike her so I was concerned they hurt her. We decided to wait a day, to make sure she was ok, before giving her medication. The next day she seemed OK and so we gave her the meds as directed. We woke up to a very sick cat, that couldn’t keep anything down, disoriented and that could no longer navigate the stairs. It was Saturday and we called the office but there is absolutely no weekend support, not even to ask about a medication they gave us. We did our best to research online and take care of her, hoping it was just side effects that would pass… when she got worse, we rushed her to an animal hospital and they tried to help but she died a couple of hours later. These people were careless with our baby girl. After 17 years this is a huge loss but what is hardest is understanding that she would likely be here today if we hadn’t taken her to this vet. If she had seen someone who was competent, who cared and treated her well... If we had kept her home or we had seen Dr. Jay, we believe she would still be here. We don't know what happened, did they give us the wrong meds or was there a problem with the samples but it’s clear that our cat wasn’t treated well and now she is gone. Five weeks later we got a card in the mail with some seeds to plant. Seeds... So my deepest wish is that the people who “treated” our cat, I hope they find themselves in crisis one day. I hope they are treated the way they treated our baby girl, with the same end result.
