Dr. Hightman misdiagnosed my dog as having gastroenteritis. I ended up having to put her down later that day at the ER because she had cancer that had taken over her little body. I do not recommend this vet.

Located at 4605 Brentwood Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32206, USA, Dr. Hightman's clinic aims to provide essential healthcare services for your beloved animal companions. Understanding the importance of finding the right veterinary care for your pets, this introduction will delve into various aspects of the practice, drawing upon available information to offer an objective overview for local users in Singapore who may be seeking veterinary insights or for those with pets who may relocate or travel to the Jacksonville area.
As a Pet Hospital, Dr. Philip C. Hightman's clinic likely offers a range of services expected from a primary veterinary care provider. These typically include routine check-ups and wellness examinations, which are crucial for the early detection of potential health issues and for maintaining your pet's overall well-being. Vaccinations, a cornerstone of preventive care, are usually administered to protect against common and potentially life-threatening diseases. Parasite prevention and control, addressing fleas, ticks, heartworms, and other internal and external parasites, form another essential component of general pet care offered at such facilities.
Diagnostic services are vital in any Pet Hospital setting. While specific details about Dr. Hightman's clinic's diagnostic capabilities are not explicitly provided, it is reasonable to expect access to basic laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal examinations. These tests aid in diagnosing various illnesses and monitoring your pet's health. Imaging technologies, such as X-rays, may also be available to help visualize internal structures and identify potential problems like fractures or organ abnormalities. The extent of these diagnostic capabilities can significantly influence the clinic's ability to handle diverse medical cases.
In terms of medical treatment, a Pet Hospital typically provides care for a wide array of illnesses and injuries. This can range from managing common ailments like infections and digestive issues to addressing more complex medical conditions. Pain management is also a crucial aspect of veterinary care, ensuring your pet's comfort during and after any medical procedures or in cases of chronic conditions. Minor surgical procedures, such as spaying and neutering, as well as the removal of minor skin masses, are often performed in general practice Pet Hospitals. For more complex surgical needs, a referral to a specialist might be necessary.
The environment of a veterinary clinic plays a significant role in the overall experience for both pets and their owners. A welcoming and clean atmosphere can help alleviate anxiety and ensure a more comfortable visit. While specific details about Dr. Hightman's clinic's environment are not available online, a well-maintained Pet Hospital typically features examination rooms where consultations and minor procedures are performed, a reception area for check-in and check-out, and potentially separate waiting areas for cats and dogs to minimize stress. The presence of necessary medical equipment and a well-organized space are also indicators of a professional and efficient practice.
Features that can distinguish a Pet Hospital include the experience and qualifications of the veterinary staff. Dr. Philip C. Hightman is the name associated with this practice, and his expertise and approach to animal care are central to the services provided. One online review describes him as an "amazing human and Vet" whose "skill is only outmatched by his kindness and love for his patients and their parents," highlighting a compassionate and patient-focused approach. This positive feedback suggests a strong doctor-client-patient relationship, which is highly valued in veterinary care.
However, it is essential to consider all available feedback to form a balanced perspective. Another review recounts a distressing experience involving a misdiagnosis, which tragically led to the pet's passing. This feedback underscores the inherent risks and complexities in veterinary medicine and the importance of thorough diagnostics and accurate assessments. While a single negative review should not necessarily define an entire practice, it warrants consideration and highlights the need for continuous learning and improvement in any medical field.

Aug 30, 2022 · Debra CrenshawMy dog Dexter died recently of pneumonia and colitis according to Dr. Hightman. His pneumonia antibiotics were discontinued and he was given an all clear report with no additional X-ray to support the report. Shortly thereafter, his pneumonia had progressed. Thankfully Dr. Lynn suggested another X-ray and that’s when we discovered his pneumonia had worsened. After repeatedly asking Dr. Hightman why he discontinued the antibiotics he refuses to answer the question. Dexter also had mucus, blood and blood clots in his stool and was diagnosed with colitis but the cause was never determined. Dr. Hightman also missed Dexter’s cushings disease (presented with classic symptoms) and heart murmur diagnosed by another vet/specialist. Just be careful.
