The atmosphere at Dr. Paws Inc is consistently described by clients as kind, gentle, and welcoming, making it feel like "the animal hospital that feels like home." The team, from the veterinarians to the certified veterinary technicians and experienced assistants, is praised for their compassionate approach. One client shared, "We love everyone at Dr. Paws! They're all so kind and gentle with our kitties. They listen to us and take all of our concerns seriously." This highlights an environment where empathy and active listening are core values.
Another long-term client, whose family has been visiting Dr. Paws since 2004, noted, "They remember your pet even if they don't see them for years. Caring loving people." This speaks to the genuine connection and familial atmosphere the clinic fosters, making pet owners feel their animals are truly valued and remembered. The commitment to maintaining a "clean and stress-free environment" further contributes to a positive experience for both pets and their owners. Extended appointment times are a deliberate feature, ensuring that all questions and concerns can be addressed, contributing to a feeling of being unrushed and fully supported.
Dr. Paws Inc provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services, demonstrating their commitment to complete care for companion animals. Their offerings cover preventative care, diagnostics, surgery, and specialized treatments:
- Comprehensive Healthcare and Preventative Medicine: They offer complete veterinary services for all life stages, from initial vaccinations to lifelong preventative care. This includes annual physical examinations (recommended due to faster pet aging), individualized vaccine protocols tailored to each pet's lifestyle, and parasite prevention.
- Surgery: Their surgical suite is equipped with modern anesthetics and monitoring devices, ensuring close monitoring throughout procedures and recovery. While they perform various surgeries, complex orthopedic and complicated soft tissue surgeries are referred to board-certified veterinary surgeons, ensuring specialized expertise when needed. Scheduled surgeries are typically performed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
- Dental Services: Comprehensive dental care is provided, including dental cleanings, tooth extractions, and minor oral surgery, all crucial for maintaining overall pet health.
- Laboratory Services: An in-house laboratory allows for rapid results (often in less than an hour) for many blood, urine, and fecal tests. For more specialized testing, they utilize an outside veterinary laboratory, which can often provide results within 24 hours.
- Digital Radiology (X-rays): State-of-the-art diagnostic imaging machinery is available on-site, providing immediate digital images. They also offer telemedicine consults with a veterinary radiologist for expert interpretation.
- Therapeutic Laser Treatment: They offer this non-invasive, surgery-free method to reduce pain and inflammation and promote healing for various conditions (acute, chronic, or post-surgical pain) by stimulating tissues.
- Pharmacy: A complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventatives is maintained. Pharmacy refills can be picked up or shipped directly to clients. They also stock a full line of prescription diets from Royal Canin and Hill's.
- Microchipping: Offered as a permanent form of identification to aid in reuniting lost pets with their families.
- Client Education: A strong emphasis is placed on providing information and resources to help pet owners make educated decisions about their pet's healthcare, ensuring they understand their pet's health plan and feel comfortable with the treatment received.
- Referral Network: They maintain close relationships with local specialists and institutions like the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University, ensuring that pets requiring services beyond their capabilities can be referred for specialized care.
- Euthanasia/Cremation Services: They provide compassionate end-of-life care, striving to ensure comfort and dignity for beloved pets, with communal and private cremation services available through Abbey Glen Pet Memorial Park.
It's noted that boarding and grooming services are not available at Dr. Paws, indicating their focus purely on veterinary medical care.
Dr. Paws Inc boasts several distinguishing features that contribute to its outstanding reputation and effectiveness:
- AAHA Accreditation: This is a significant differentiator. Dr. Paws voluntarily adheres to over 900 rigorous standards set by the American Animal Hospital Association, covering quality of care, diagnostics & pharmacy, management, medical records, and facility. This commitment ensures they consistently provide the highest level of veterinary care.
- Exceptional Compassion and Personal Attention: Clients consistently highlight the kindness, gentleness, and attentiveness of the entire staff. The emphasis on treating pets "like our own" and remembering individual pets, even after years, fosters deep trust and loyalty.
- Comprehensive and Advanced In-House Services: With on-site digital radiology, an in-house laboratory, and advanced surgical monitoring, they offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment capabilities, minimizing the need for external referrals for routine to moderately complex cases.
- Client-Centered Communication: Extended appointment times and a clear commitment to answering "all your questions and concerns" ensure that pet owners are fully informed and comfortable with their pet's care plan.
- Focus on Preventative Care and Education: Their mission prioritizes preventative healthcare and responsible pet ownership, actively guiding clients in making educated decisions for their pets' long-term well-being.
- Long-Standing Community Trust: Operating since 1999 and receiving consistent positive feedback, including being recognized "5 years in a row" (implied through various sources) speaks to their enduring presence and high standing in the Scranton community.
While specific, time-sensitive promotional offers are not detailed in the provided information, Dr. Paws Inc's primary promotional strategy centers on its reputation for high-quality, compassionate care and its AAHA accreditation. Word-of-mouth referrals, as evidenced by loyal clients who have been visiting since 2004, are undoubtedly a powerful driver of their business.
They actively engage with the community through:
- Strong Online Presence: Their website provides extensive information on services, their philosophy, and ways to contact them, including online appointment scheduling.
- Educational Resources: Their emphasis on client education serves as an indirect form of promotion, empowering pet owners and building trust.
- Affiliations and Referrals: Their close rapport with local specialists and university hospitals (UPenn, Cornell) demonstrates a commitment to ensuring pets receive the best possible care, even if it requires external referral, which in turn promotes their reputation for responsible care.
- Acceptance of Payment Solutions: They accept CareCredit and Scratchpay, offering financial flexibility for clients to manage veterinary costs, which is a valuable service for many pet owners. They also provide information on pet insurance to help clients save on unexpected vet costs.

Dec 07, 2024 路 Nicole SohnsHave been taking my family to Dr. Paws 馃惥 since 2004. Great service. They remember your pet even if they don't see them for years. Caring loving people. It's worth every dime I've spent there. My family is worth the best. Merlin (cat) and Hermione (dog) have been patients since 2007. They are still with us. Thank you, Dr. Paws 馃惥
May 09, 2023 路 Annie DejesusDr Paws have taken care of all my furry babies. 2 dogs, 1 cat. A week ago I rescued 2 feral kittens. Dr Paws office was amazing. They took the time to check them out and clean their poor eyes and noses up. I did what they told me to do, it's a week later and they are doing well! It meant alot that they helped me care for the kittens. Their health has improved, eating, using the litter box. Mostly they are now being the playful kitties they are meant to be. They are snuggle bugs. They like being held and pampered. It was a roller coaster each day. I am grateful for Dr Paws office and my daughter and friend for all the help.
Feb 15, 2022 路 Cynthia BushinskiSo I called to get my dogs scheduled and was told they couldn鈥檛 see one of my dogs because he has a preexisting condition. (I have a. Golden Retriever that is prone to ear infections) So I guess this place only wants to take new dogs in that need shots. Makes zero sense to me. The point if being a vet is to help animals. I guess this place picks and chooses who they want to help
