I rescued a dog that was reported to be timid and shy but I quickly realized she was a terrified pup who wouldn't play, allow anyone to touch her, wasn't eating and trembled most of the time. I was in over my head and knew I needed some help. I first reached out to trainer, Michael Curran of Houston Dog Behavior. Michael got us started on some excellent training but he suggested Shadow would benefit from medication and the special behavior therapist, Dr. Lore Haug. I knew of Dr. Haug's great reputation and trusted Michael's opinion so we added Dr. Haug and Rebecca to what I call Team Brave Shadow. Shadow is a sweet and very well-behaved girl but frightened of men and terrified of dogs. Walks were very difficult because we often encountered both. Dr. Haug prescribed some medication and very specific activities that are helping move Shadow forward. I can forward videos to the office and receive very helpful feedback. During the pandemic we were able to have a remote visit that was very effective. We have a long road ahead of us but Shadow is now at her ideal weight, she has begun to have interactive play and her relationship with me is growing into real affection rather than just the need for security. I count on Dr, Haug, Michael, her vet, Dr. Pulido and her fear free groomer to help Shadow become a dog who experiences joy more than fear and grows in her confidence. I appreciate everyone in our circle!
