I have been going to Waukee Clive vet clinic for 17 years but no more. They want another visit in order to renew ear drops. They already charge at least 30% more than an online pet pharmacy but now they insist on another visit charge as well. They stopped being open on Saturday despite bringing in several new veterinarians. So disappointed in Jamie Bunn, I thought he cared about animals but it’s all about the money!

Welcome to Dr. Jamie Bunn
For pet owners in Clive, Iowa, and the surrounding areas, Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic has long served as a prominent animal hospital, offering a wide range of veterinary services. Located at 15151 Hickman Rd, the clinic aims to provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care, prioritizing the well-being of pets through advanced technology and a skilled, caring staff. While the clinic, including veterinarians like Dr. Jamie Bunn (who was historically associated with this clinic), has garnered positive feedback for its compassionate approach and quality of care, recent client experiences have brought to light some significant concerns regarding their operational practices and perceived changes in their approach to client service and pricing.
Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic presents itself as a full-service animal hospital designed to provide a comfortable and calm environment for pets. Client testimonials, generally speaking, often praise the staff for being "kind, knowledgeable," and "compassionate and gentle." Many reviewers have highlighted the professionalism and caring nature of the entire team, including the doctors and technicians, as well as the cleanliness of the facility. The clinic states its commitment to making the environment "comfortable, kid-friendly, and a very calm environment so your pet can relax in the waiting room." This focus on a positive atmosphere is a common thread in positive feedback, contributing to a sense of trust and effective care. However, some recent feedback, specifically mentioning a perceived shift in policy, indicates a potential change in the client experience, particularly regarding convenience and cost, which may impact the overall atmosphere for some long-standing clients.
Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic prides itself on being a full-service veterinary hospital capable of addressing a wide variety of pet health needs. Their commitment is to provide the highest level of care through advanced technology and a skilled team. Services typically offered at this facility include:
Health Examinations and Wellness Programs: Regular physical examinations are a cornerstone of their preventive care, conducted at least once a year to ensure overall well-being. These exams often include temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate checks, full body evaluations, and examinations of the heart, lungs, and teeth. Wellness and preventive medicine are tailored to a pet's lifestyle, with consideration for blood, urine, and stool analyses, especially important for aging pets.
Digital Radiology: The clinic is equipped with digital radiography (X-rays) for quick and accurate imaging, allowing veterinarians to diagnose various conditions affecting internal organs and skeletal structures.
In-House Laboratory: With an in-house laboratory, the clinic can perform a range of diagnostic tests, providing rapid results to inform treatment decisions.
Surgical Procedures: Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic offers various routine surgical procedures, including spaying and neutering, tumor removal, dental surgeries, cystotomies, and exploratory surgeries. They aim to provide safe and effective surgical options for pets throughout their lifetime.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are provided, which may include cleanings, extractions, and potentially digital dental X-rays to assess the health of teeth and gums below the surface.
Vaccinations: Essential vaccinations for immunity against common diseases like rabies and parvovirus are a core part of their preventive services.
Microchipping: This service helps ensure pets can be identified and returned to their owners if lost.
Nutrition Counseling: Guidance on dietary and nutritional needs is offered to support a pet's health and well-being.
Exotic Pet Care: The clinic states it provides care for exotic pets, suggesting a broader scope of practice beyond just dogs and cats.
Puppy and Kitten Care: Specialized care programs are available for young animals, focusing on their unique developmental and health needs.
Emergency Cases: While not a 24/7 emergency hospital, the clinic states it has the capabilities to take in emergency cases during its operational hours, indicating readiness to handle urgent medical situations.
Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic has generally been well-regarded for its caring staff and the quality of medical care provided. Many clients praise the compassionate and gentle approach of the veterinarians and technicians. The clinic emphasizes building strong relationships with clients and their pets, with numerous testimonials speaking to the staff's knowledge, attentiveness, and ability to make informed decisions for pet care. The presence of multiple licensed veterinarians, such as Dr. Young, Dr. Dolphin-Rooney, Dr. Olesen, Dr. Mancino, and Dr. Gearhart, suggests a diverse team with varied expertise, allowing for comprehensive care. The clinic also prides itself on its professional customer service and commitment to superior care through technology and education.
However, recent client feedback points to specific areas of concern that have significantly impacted at least one long-term client. The primary issues highlighted are:
Policy on Prescription Refills: A significant point of contention for one reviewer is the clinic's alleged policy of requiring another in-person visit (and associated charge) solely for the renewal of ear drops. This policy, if consistently applied, can be a major inconvenience and added expense for owners of pets with chronic conditions requiring ongoing medication, especially when compared to online pet pharmacies.
Pricing Concerns: The review states that the clinic "already charge at least 30% more than an online pet pharmacy," indicating a perceived higher cost for medications and services compared to external alternatives. This suggests a potential issue with perceived value for money, at least in some aspects of their service.
Reduced Weekend Hours: The cessation of Saturday operating hours, despite reportedly bringing in "several new veterinarians," is another source of disappointment. For many pet owners, weekend appointments are crucial for balancing work and pet care responsibilities, and the elimination of these hours can significantly reduce convenience and accessibility.
Perceived Shift in Philosophy: The most poignant criticism levied against Dr. Jamie Bunn in the specific review is the sentiment, "I thought he cared about animals but it’s all about the money!" This indicates a perception by a long-term client that the clinic's operational decisions are now driven more by financial considerations than by patient welfare or client convenience. This is a severe accusation that, while from a single review, suggests a deep sense of betrayal or disappointment regarding the evolving business practices.
These recent concerns, contrasted with many overwhelmingly positive reviews about the quality of medical care and compassionate staff, suggest a potential disconnect between the clinical care provided and certain administrative or policy decisions that impact the client experience and perceived value.
Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic is located at 15151 Hickman Rd, Clive, IA 50325, USA. They can be reached by phone at (515) 987-4552 or via mobile at +1 515-987-4552. Their business hours are:

The clinic emphasizes convenience through its website, which allows clients to access pet medical records, view upcoming services due, check scheduled appointments, and request appointment times or prescription refills. They accept various payment options, including Debit cards, Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), Checks, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Cash. Additionally, they work with treatment financing solutions like Scratchpay to help pet owners manage unexpected medical costs, offering simple and transparent payment plans. They also encourage pet insurance as a way to manage expenses for accidents and illnesses.
While Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic clearly offers a robust suite of veterinary services and has a strong foundation of positive client relationships, prospective and current clients should be aware of the expressed concerns regarding prescription refill policies, pricing, and the current lack of Saturday hours, which may influence their overall experience. It is always advisable to discuss specific concerns and policies directly with the clinic to ensure it aligns with individual needs and expectations for pet care.
